Wonder how far I am off cresting the reserve list
Well I'm in and wouldn't mind knowing all the locality bits and bobs, aside from the race, as I've never been up that way before.
Where do all the runners camp, is there parking at the race start and what pub do we go to after? Don't rush to reply :), anytime in the next 6 months will do.
i have hardly thought about the race really but i suppose the training is going ok if thats what you want to call it,plenty of other adventures before then though :D
I prefer this thread.
Either thread but the Ben race site seems to be down...........
http://www.bennevisrace.co.uk/
I exchanged emails with the Race Secretary about ten days ago, and he mentioned something about the webmaster having gone missing!
There are dozens of threads for this race. This seems to be the major one so here goes. I have in my possession a full resolution DVD of the 2008 race which incorporated the Sky Buff World Championships. It was one of my first OTT attempts to convert someone else's tape to DVD and I edited an hour and a half to about 30mins. Still too long but try as I might I didn't have access to a programme to 'capture the DVD copy and re-edit it before transferring it to the "net". I finally managed to get it back onto a video editor, but all I could do was split it and compress it to about a quarter of its size and resolution. Its done, and up and running. Wharfeego if you watch this, you'll see its not a patch on your last professional production, but it is pretty interesting especially the long downhill chase by the eventual winner Agusti Roc as he let Rob Jebb show him the route down. Enjoy. If you took part last year, you probably feature. If you're taking part this year and haven't done the race before it gives you the flavour! http://www.vimeo.com/5695633 Part 2 should be ready for viewing in a couple of hours. Its on the site but has to be decoded or something?
Oh and thanks for the original tape goes to Robert Adamson of Bingley Harriers. He still doesn't have a computer by the way!
The site says 'This is a private video' and requires a login.
Oops there is a glitch somewhere. So go into the main site with all my videos for now http://www.vimeo.com/user1363754/videos
Sorted! It was a glitch on their site which seems to be running slow at the moment. click on http://www.vimeo.com/5695633
training on the cornish coastal clifftop path at the moment. Think I need to step up the training eh.lol
Great video editing. cheers.
A random question......how long does everyone think myself and a friend could get up and down this large lump...walking:eek:?
Ta.
:D That is a good point.
But just wanted to get an idea....just to see if we could bag another munro whilst we where up there kinda thing.:D
Thing is though....i havent done any 'walking' since ive taken up running...so i'll just end up trying to blast up and down the ben whilst draging my mate with me.
depends on how fit your mate is, allow 4-5 hours if you are walking, however when are you going? to climb it now with all the snow on it you could add an hour for the climb. take care it is an all new ball game on the Ben in winter. make sure you know the bearings off the top.
What a delight to see this particular thread at the top once again.:)
I think entries open pretty soon for this years race
So , seeing as it's reared it's head again . Does anyone know when the entry window opens ?
Blimy , that was quick . -2mins :D
Says it opens last week in January
Yeah hopefully, if I can get an entry!Quote:
Are you having a go Robbie ?
It should be pretty awesome, will be training hard for it. Not sure if it's in the skyrunning series, hopefully it is. See you there in a few years time then!Quote:
Yeah nice one, aye get your entry in as soon as you can its soo popular, carnt wait till im old enough for it. Is it part of the buff skyrunning world champs again ?
Yes, it's part of the Skyrunner World Series but no longer sponsored by Buff. It all seems to be a bit more complicated - The Ben is a Trial rather than a Race.
I intend to do this if I get my enrty in, really looking forward to this classic race. Walked it twice and ran it once. I think the descent is going to be awesome.
The programme on the left is for 2010, but the entry form is still the 2009 one. Looks a stonking race. I see that as well as the Skyrunner race, on 8th May there is a vertical kilometre race from Terskol at 2500m to Mir at 3500m, on 11th May there is a ski mountaineering race and on 12th May a snowshoe race. Fascinating.
I see on the entry requirements that you have to be a member of a club . Does anyone know whether FRA membership is enough or will they be asking for running/athletic club membership ?
Cheers
It's worked for people in the past. This is last year's entry list.
