bit of a poor show in my book... even if he wasn't wanting to play for the rest of tour, could he not have just kept his counsel in house till after the series... seems to give a bit more pyshcologicl boost to the Aussies, not that they need it- 5-0 looks a dead cert :(
Oh dear
5 wickets for 6 runs..puts gun to head....
A good one to win!
Oh dear.
At least it's over.
Do coaches, no matter how brilliant, only have a limited period of effectiveness?
Good to see Hussain and Atherton slagging off the England team, how many successful Ashes series did they take part in? Easy sat in the commentary box isn't it?
Before we start calling for heads to roll. Let's examine the reasons why England got whitewashed.
1. Australia are a very motivated team still smarting from the 3-0 last summer
2. Some of their key players played very well. Mitchell Johnson, when he gets it right is very hard to play on pitches with any bounce. Haddin got them out of jail lots of times.
3. Finn lost form and confidence at the wrong time. This didn't leave enough time to get Rankin or Tremlett bedded into the team. This shouldn't be underestimated. An on-form Finn could have made the breakthrough in any of the 4 tests where Australia batted first and were 5 or 6 down.
4. Some key England players lost form. Notably Cook, Trott, Anderson, Swann, Finn and Prior.
For the next Ashes, it will be very different team from both sides. England will be without Prior, Pietersen, Anderson, probably Trott, and maybe Bell. Australia will be without several players including Haddin and Johnson.
Australia deserve a lot of credit for their performances. It wasn't just about England crumbling, it was England crumbling under a relentless and sustained Australian onslaught.
Now can heads roll Noel?
Bowlers took wickets although a little costly
Bats men got a grand holiday and very little time in the sun.
Snatched defeat from the jaws of victory, time for most of them to come home and the T20 boys to take over and build up to the World Cup. We've avoided India and the Aussies in the group stage so surely at least the semis is a possibility
The main of the players need to return to their counties and get some game time.
The team then wants picking from the players who are performing well.
Flower has gone so thats a start, now the under performing players should follow.
That is true Rev. I did give credit on the 3 ashes wins him and his team achieved. As a country we have to realise that all sporting coaches and players have a shelf life and need to be performing at the top of their game or they out.
Far too often do we bring out the history books as to why someone should do a job not on current form and recent results.
What I was saying is he is the man who planed the tour and was in-charge of the team that produced one of the worst tourrs ever.
He had to go.
BUT
Players must also be sent back to their counties to get some form and picked on current (2014) form.
They appear to have Ashley Giles as the man to replace him. Giles was bloke who over saw the T20 so his current form is poor.
Kevin Pietersen dumped by England
I would love to have been a fly on the wall in that dressing room. The team clearly don't like him, but when he's just so talented what could they do.
I remember Graham Swann saying that Pietersen's team talk when he was the one-day captain was "just fu©k1ng bowl fu©k1ng straight!" Genius!
To quote Pietersen 'It was an honour to represent my country', I didn't think he ever played for South Africa:confused:
I remember Mickey Arthur, the then Australian coach, saying Australia had the best bowling attack in the world. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/cri...shes-2013.html
I was surprised at the time, as were a lot of people. Michael Vaughan said he'd lost the plot and that the best bowling attacks were South Africa followed by England.
It seems Mr Arthur might have been on to something after all eh? http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/scorecard/88542
England getting back to winning ways? Jos Buttler looks a good player.
Ben Stokes out of the T20 World Cup with a hand injury after punching a locker in the dressing room in the West Indies:D
Ireland Zimbabwe in the WC. The most perfect tv for a hangover.
Trott or should his name be Tw@t or Bottler
One more win for Ireland in the T20 WC and it's into the group with England.
England 0 for 2 chasing 190 to win
142 for 2 now, Hales 86 from 49 balls including 25 from the last over, 48 needed from 5 overs
Won with 4 balls to spare, Hales 116 not out from 64 balls
Never in doubt was it?
