Yes, I like a jetwasher Daz :)
Here's the start of a whole series of videos on cyclo-cross skills on You Tube.

Ive noticed this thread has died off suddenly I hope your not all fair weather cyclists.
Went out yesterday for a short 25 mile but hilly session lots of flooded road sections, rain lashing at you sideways twas cracking fun:w00t:
Tonight was a hardish ten mile it felt hard but only averaged 15 and topped at 26 but it is lashing it down
I am down to just commuting now (and only going in 3 or 4 days a week). I'm having enough problems getting normal shoes and socks on - getting my overshoes on would be impossible - so yes i'm become a fiar weather leisure cyclist :)!
Just seen on Facebook that my old coach Dave Le Grys aka Legro has won another Rainbow Jersey at the Master's World Track Championships. A year ago he was in intensive care fighting for his life after a horrific crash. Just goes to show what you can achieve if you put your mind to it.
Good shout dan, thats an amazing comeback.A few miles on the bike for me tonight with a hard spin class thrown in the middle.Full lights on the bike tonight. Winter bike out next week
35 hilly miles for me this morning, a gorgeous day to be out on the bike. Managed a decent average speed (for me) despite the hills, slowly but surely I'm getting stronger - not strong enough yet though!
Punctured just as I turned into my road.
Out with Twickenham CC fast group to Fairoaks airport and back yesterday.
44 miles, Av Speed - 22 mph, which I found pretty punchy given that the first and last six miles are stop-start through outer London
feeling a bit demolished today...
Well after last weeks Cross accident, I surprised myself yesterday!
First ever MTB race... only the 4th time on a MTB... Bristol Oktoberfest 8 hours mixed pairs. Half an hour on half an hour off, alternating laps... we even made the top 10 :) Me with a bruised sternum, two cracked ribs and severe haematoma's on both legs, the right worse than the left... And my friend hadn't ridden for 3 months due to work and moving house stresses... We have decided we are going to do some more of it next year, as we feel we could be in for a podium if we tried harder :)
Great fun, loved every moment of it, the riding, the social aspect of it the athmosphere, brill! Even though my body now feels a bit beaten up again... but I don't think it made things worse :)
Last weeks crash was a spectacular one: front wheel caught in a ditch I could not see, taken at speed, so apparently did a 360 degree full flip landing on top of my bike still clipped in... Smashed my sternum and ribs on the stem and legs somewhere else on the bike :( A&E doctor said 6-8 weeks to heal the ribs so no cycling... hahahah :) Mind, I can't push outside my comfortzone though, as breathing is restricted... so no cross race for me this morning :(
Well done hann. Be careful. Take time to get healed.
Ouch Hann - hope they're better soon!
Rollers with no hands? That is asking for trouble, as I am bent over to the left, because of the ribs... :)
I am going to try bride the track on wednesday, nice and smooth :) I was ok on the MTB Saturday, I didn't push very hard... but it has hurt a bit afterwards, I suppose the adrenaline kept the pain at bay!
I usually send the odd e mail or text when on my rollers. No hands is fairly easy to master. You can get a fair bit of work done
I can do no hands, but need to be able to sit upright, which I doubt I can at the moment... but can always try or use the turbo in stead :)
My issue is, in order to retain some fitness for cross, I'd need to dfo hard efforts, and that is the porblem... I was able to do my 8 hours pairs MTB race Saturday, no worries... It was only a problem as soon as I put in some effort! My right leg would cease up and my ribs would stop me from breathing well enough...
nice steady recovery ride today out to Box Hill and back, 75km @ 25.5kph av. Kept the heart rate low throughout, just spinning the pedals.
Headbangers' chaingang tomorrow night - gulp ...
2 miles on the S/S MTB, caught in the most torrential downpour i have ever seen in the UK. Spat the dummy and thrashed it home. Absolutely soaked. Bah!
Zoot enjoy the chaingang tomorrow my friend.Could have done with some help tonight. It forcast gusts of 40 mph so must have been 60 mph on the tops. I just battled through serious gales on crich top, wirksworth top and alport heights. Managed about 47 miles in awful weather. No one else out. Good training mind. Last time i was out in wind like that i had a little helper convincing me it was a good idea. The wind was so strong tonight it was wrenching the bars from your hands.
That's quite far enough in those conditions, eh.
I really do enjoy it daz, it's one of the the most exciting things I've ever done, riding fast in a group like that. Didn't know it was possible to sustain those speeds for that long.
Got thrown in at the deep end last Tuesday with the fast group - as there wasn't a steady group, just a slow group. I find the pace v challenging: I get dropped on the sprints and the hills. But that's only to be expected for the moment.
Managed to hang in there though til the end, no one really had to hang back for me. Similar on Saturday morning, so it looks like there's no going back now - fast group it is!
Theres nothing like it zoot. Its a few years since ive done it.Its funny but enjoy it when you get dropped. Its part of what will eventually make you stronger. If you want to get good at it remember a good chain gang rider is also a crafty rider. Bike riding is as much in your head as in your legs. Some chaingangs will delight in killing you off. Some around here are like that.I often get with the derby lads coming down the a6 and they take it in turn to try and drop you. I sometimes will wait until its my turn to go through but then push the rider in front and tell him im struggling, this of course will just be before a climb, haha then i go flat out.Its all part the fun.Keep us posted , nice to hear your stories.
Zoot what bike do you have.
No fair weather riding down here I can assure you. 3 hours out on Sunday first thing in the wind and rain and trying to avoid the leaf mulch all over the road on the wooded climbs we indulged in, bit of a hill bash really but had to be a bit careful coming down, bit slidey really! Then today snuk out for quick hours blast (20 miles)round the local lanes.. The riding continues, just on the Ridley. Bike filthy, please don't tell Daz, hoping for rain at the weekend to give it a bit of a clean....:o:o
struggling along on a Spesh Allez Triple at the moment ... Am finding the gears limiting on club runs: i.e, I tend to lazily keep it in the big ring most of the time (there aren't many 'proper hills' on the club runs) but that gives me a lot fewer options than the big ring on a standard or compact would (I think?)...
you're absolutely right there daz. Specially as a new rider... I got hung out to dry a couple of times last night: came through strongish a couple of times in the latter half of the run, led the line for a while, then bang!, they're round and off and 50 yards up the road before I can get out the saddle ... (Maybe my destiny is lead-out man ... )
But it's all a good lesson in not shredding your legs in the wind, and as you say, learning the craft and the tactics.
Exactly as you say, I'm trying to enjoy getting dropped and getting back! I don't know the sprint points properly either, but I don't think it'd make much difference at the moment...
They're good blokes though, they've been v welcoming and encouraging since I joined them...
Same for me Sunday too - shade under 3 hours and more lumpy than intended although racing a couple of horses trotting up the hill on knackered legs wasn't exactly 'fun'
Rollered monday, spinning last night and well, errr thought about riding today (swapped day off at work) but it's well err, pouring down and windy AGAIN. Although it'd clean the bike Toffer, right??
LAst day riding to work today. Got midwife tomorrow. Then driving in Friday to clear my desk a bit.
Yipes!
Oh, it is getting close Ratfink :)
