Daz's dog??
Decided to ride to spin tonight. Rain rain rain. I did 3 sessions and pedalled inbetween. Biked home as well.Fitted a new rear light that i purchased from evans. Twenty quid and it packed up in 15 mins. Useless. Wasnt happy having to borrow a rear light to get home. Its a smart light.I opened it and its all wet inside. Doesnt even seal. Crock of crap
ran to spin and back, but just a 40-min session of reasonable gentle intervals, or rather intervals that I could have hammered but chose not to - trying to stay fresh for tomorrow a.m.'s chaingang...
Good look on the chaingang Zoot
Dont forget the old cupping your hand and hooking your fingers under the riders saddle to pull you along a bit. Not easy to master but def a good trick.
If they catch you doing it just say you was about to push them forward as they were drifting a bit too close:thumbup:.
You can also offer your fellow chaingang members a drink of the freshly prepared apple juice in your bidon..
As they are about to take a drink put a sprint in and your away.
Be prepared to get the bidon thrown at you after.
They will suddenly realise why you stopped 12miles back for a break.
Good riding.
cheers mate
on the last chaingang I got an (almost full) bidon out, just before hitting the worst pothole in Surrey: it flew out of my hand and nearly caught the rider behind right in the face
I was thirsty by the time I got home.
on a more sedate note - off to check out the tissington trail today :)
and another day without riding goes by... I am only riding once a week at the moment it seems, to test the ribs :(
A little beauty today.

22miles, 1200feet tissington trail from parsley hay - loop back via carsington reservoir on cycle route 54
awesome day!
:):)
Well done ratfink. Ive been on there a few times. Gets mega busy in summer doesnt it.Did a 8 mile run tonight then stripped my rourke and re built it. Polished it and gave it the full service. Did 45 mins on the rollers after re setting the indexing. Was going to have it re sprayed this time around. Its got a few chips on the underside of the downtube and bottom bracket which is to be expected aftervall those thousands of miles.Maybe next year a re spray and super record.
Em, that Bowlander would be looking very angry; if he spent the evening guarding bikes instead of tearing up the trails on Beacon Fell!!
Just had a great afternoon on the 'cross bikes with John G, who you were talking to on Tuesday evening. From his house at Forton via various bridleways and BOAT's to Beacon Fell, a lap of the offroad perimeter tracks, tea & cake at the visitor centre cafe then home via other bridleways. A bit of "bike & hike" in places but a good 4 hours on a cracking afternoon!!
Cheers daz. Never been on it before, pretty quiet yesterday even though half term - quieter than Monsal trail recently anyway.
How do you manage to ride Ratfink? You must be at bursting point by now? I am in awe :D
I have put on a few kilo's... not been riding now for almost a month, apart from my MTB enduro and a weekly hour on the outdoor track to test the waters... i.e. once a week :(
But going out on the MTB in a moment, for an hour and half of playing on the hill, seeing how well the ribs are now... then we have a weekend off racing next weekend, but a friend is coming for some MTB fun, so two big rides planned :)
Then back to racing! YAY!
Must get onto that turbo this week, get some strength back into those legs...
Its a tough time of year from now on for training.Ive started upping my rollerwork. Done about 4 hrs this week and prob another hr tomorrow. Good luck with the turbo hann but it aint for me. I prefer rollers and spin. Badger keeps dragging me out for lots of runs as well.Good luck with your ribs, i know ive been there. Can you not join a local spinning group.
First time out on the MTB since Lakes weekend a month ago - heavy work travel schedule. 1 hr 45 of classic West Sussex singletrack and NO punctures despite county wide hedge trimming going down. Nice and muddy, found some new technical downhill stuff, killed a rat (yep, first time ever I've ridden over one and splatted it dead) and got home smiling.Family day today ...
Ok, technically I wasn't actually riding a bike....

55miles into the peak after this mornings 10 mile run. The sun was nice and i just made it back before dark. Was going to go a bit further but id eaten nowt all day and not put a gel in.
Daz, where I live nothing is local, apart from the hills, the pub and work :) So no spinning for me, I'd have to go to Newport or Cardiff for that...
I hve rollers, but tend to ride the track in winter... 2 - 3 times a week... unless I get injyred again like last year, when I had 4 months off over winter... perfect!
Went and raced cross this morning... legs coped, but I could not go into the red with my broken ribs... just could not breathe well enough... Some hard turbo and track sessions this week, see if we can drum them back into shape :)
Ah goed gedann on the cross race. Oh you have to travel a long way from the hills to the track. Hann what do they charge at the velodrome. Is it per session or a yearly fee
You pay per session daz... Depending on the session it is either £5,50 or £7... This is for regular drop in sessions. There also are beginners and improvers courses, which you book per 4 or 6 sessions in advance. I pay a yearly hire fee for a hook to keep my track bike there, so I din't have to carry it around with me as well.
It is great to have such a training facility relatively near by! The velodrome is where they also do the nearest spinning classes to me, but so far I have rather ridden the track, much more fun :) :)
Well thats pretty good value. We should have lots more velodromes. The goverment wants the public to get fitter. I cannot think of a better way.Just climbed off the rollers. 100minutes. Ran out of tunes. Cant take badger running as the firework brigade have started
We are getting one in derby hann. Not sure when. They was talking 2012. Right next to starbucks.
Tim Moore's book, Another Kilometre and We're in the Showers, is v interesting on the 'golden age' of track cycling and the old velodromes (as it is on a lot of the history of cycling, both pro and amateur).
He was writing just before the recent renaissance, thanks to Hoy, Pendleton and BC etc, so was very pessimistic on its future, talking like it was a dying form of cycling, soon to be obsolete.
Its a fascinating book is that.
But left me with a different view of Jaques Goddet ( He owned the velodrome near the eiffel tower, vel D hivier).
At some point he had the decision to make to hand over the velodrome to the Germans to use it as a holding centre for 28,000 jewish people who were the sent to Auswitz.
He lived with that all his life.
The man who directed the Tour and set up L Equipe must have been tormented with that till the day he died.
Now thats a question you would want answering. A sad book but didnt quite cover everything for me.
yeah I found it very interesting how he seemed to think cycling in a certain form - club cycling as he remembered and loved it - was a dying sport in Britain.
Which seems a bit odd when cycling appears to be one of the growth 'leisure pursuits' in the UK, as we keep hearing from BC.
I guess that was his point though, that cycle sport - as contested between clubs - was suffering as cycling was turning into a casual mass-participation hobby.
I'd be interested to know how club memberships and road race / time trial entries have held up over say the last 10 or 20 years.
I know there has been a feeling at some clubs that the sharp end of the amateur sport (Cat 3 up to elite racing) had been neglected bacause of a broader membership who were just interested in social club rides and sportives etc.
In the case of the club I've been going out with, it led to a split a few years back, with a bunch of the best riders leaving to form a racing club... Two racing clubs actually!
Which seems a shame as they were and are probably quite intimidating places to join, while the original club would have been left weaker - although it now seems to be in good health again. What you want ideally is a club where beginner / intermediate riders are encouraged (if they want to be) by the better riders to get fitter, stronger, faster and to race.
Interesting subject.
sorry, Tim Hilton, not Tim Moore, it was
Just managed 40 mins on the rollers after a 12 mile run.Need a fan in my shed
Keep rolling Dazzler. Heading towards Turbo time with no light left by the time I escape from work, but still some options to get out for an afternoon spin.....so 36miles over the wastes of Gelligaer, some of the roads a bit like cycle-cross. You see , I told you I needed a new bike!!! Found a gem of a climb out the back of Trelewis, oh and a Red kite on the top, a good day !
I've never left my turbo dungeon for long this year. Yesterday it was 1hr50mins at 140+bpm while watching episodes 5 & 6 of The Killing (Danish version).
You have a tv in your dungeon. Very nice.A winter bike ride to spin with full lights on. Did half hr before spin climbing then first spin class which was hill reps. Then i had one of those texts, not a letter but a text. And it spurred me on to do another session. Ride home was firework city.Badger not happy and was waiting inside looking out the patio window. Not a happy collie.
Turbo for me tonight... My dungeon is equipped with whips, crops, gags, rope and a selection of cuffs to tie me to it and keep me going... no tv in evidence here :-O
Track yesterday morning, was finding it hard with the lungs, but seemed to be fine pushing at 5-10 beats above lactate treshold tonight, 5 minutes low cadence, 5 minutes high and 5 minutes low... I am starting to suspect my lactate treshold is higher than I think it is... will go a few beats up next time, see how that goes...
[QUOTE=Hanneke;444073]Turbo for me tonight... My dungeon is equipped with whipsBe careful hann. More than five lashes and you get a ban nowadays.
I wish I had a tv in there. I've had to make do with nicking the kids portable dvd player. Surprised you've not got a fan Daz, I'd melt away to nothing without mine.
