Hi Will - I ran 3:13, possibly 3:12 but waiting for the results to get something a bit more precise. I was gunning for 3:15 so on one hand I'm pleased. But in retrospect (as I always do) I'm picking my race apart and there are things I would do differently next time to improve upon that. But that's life I guess!

Funny, I was running with a chap at one point that matched your description, after five minutes of silence I gave it the old..."I don't suppose you're Will are you..." Needless to say, it wasn't!

Pretty good time that Simon, must have put you well up the field. Expect the only time you'd have seen me was the first mile or so, after that I drifted slowly back through the field

Only my third fell race and was definitely the best I've run. Looking back I could have pushed a bit harder, had a bit too much left in the tank at the end.

My gut instinct, having done the 3 P's this year, was that FTOP was much tougher !

Jez thats the answer I wanted ! Imagine 3P is a lot easier under foot too ?

As per previous post ref 3P's, it is generally better under foot, however the last few miles of run in off Ingleborough over Sulber Nick is definitely NOT easier underfoot. It's extremely dificult limestone which is nearly always slippy wether it's wet or dry and it always catches out tired and aching feet.

Was a rookie racer on Sat. Glad people are saying that's tougher than the 3Ps (probably only because its in the recent memory). I found the latter stages pretty hard to motivate myself to put in the effort. Was going fine up to CP7 (enjoyed that descent which seemed steeper than down to CP4?). But that 5th climb knocked the stuffing out of me. I was cold in the hail, probably should've put gloves / jacket on but decided not to and just put up with feeling sorry for myself, gradually getting overtaken by all the 10.30's. Then when I looked down from the edge and saw CP9 I could've given up there and then.

Stuck it out and trudged in around 3.40 - 3.45 ish. Wasn't sure whether I should've done a 10 or 10.30 start at that pace but got bored of waiting around so went early.

I think the staggered start worked well (obviously a logistical pain for the results!). It was good to see the fast runners in the middle stages of the race, rather than just seeing them sprinting off at the start and being sat around at the finish laughing and joking when I turn up feeling wrecked! However I made it to CP4 in ~1.35ish. Maybe next year the start should be staggered but the cut off brought in to 12pm. I certainly felt sorry for the marshalls on top on saturday - I've no idea how long they had to stay up there but the more we can do to shorten that then the best for all concerned.

Brilliant race - will be recommending that and hopefully back next year ;)

I agree with Steampig. The Sulber Nick finish seems to go on for ever & I took quite a tumble on that section. I saw quite a few people this year running wide of the path on the softer & easier ground. Not sure whether this is strictly allowed ? You get more of a "rest" inbetween ascents & descents on the 3 P's & therefore I stick by my statement that the FTOP is the tougher race. There's no respite !

Forum opinions? The facts are the records which are both held by top runners. ToP is 2.11, 3P is 2.46.

Horses for courses, I expect, unless the records are held by the same bloke. Longer time doesn't necessarily mean tougher race.

This year I found 3Ps tougher than Pendle, but maybe I'm more fell experienced now. 3Ps was my first pukka fell race for 15 years other than 4 or 5 LDWA 25 milers, which suit me since they're almost entirely runnable, whereas Whernside and Inglebugger can be climbed quickly only by the elite.
