Not my choice though.
No fell runner likes a road section. Are you getting enough sleep Ian ?.

Can you get a mobile phone signal at the Snake Inn ? I remember quite a few years ago I was driving towards the Snake Inn and there was an injured sheep in the road. Someone had hit it and not reported it  and it was still alive in the middle of the road. I stopped at the Snake Inn to call the police and get a vet out for it as I couldn't get a signal on my mobile phone. It was about 10 years ago mind so maybe the coverage is much better now ?
I wouldn't mind losing the road section by the way as it was the only downside to a great race route.

Not the way I run....Whoooosh-----------;) You would have to run down a twisty/slippy wooded path cross a stream climb 50-100ft up the hillside then run on a vague trod until you met up with the bridge. You cannot stay on the "nearside"after the first stream junction as there was a short section with no right of way if I remember correctly.

Phone reception is nil to non existant. there is a pay phone there which is what we used for back up. Even the Team radio's have trouble and last year we needed to use a second vehical as a relay station.
The police regularly stop around for breaks here when on training as they are out of comms with control!
Happy to have the road bit taken out. It'll be the same for every one. Don't for get though you don't have to run down the road.

As an alternative you could have a checkpoint at Snake top, run across the boggy path over Featherbed Top, down into Ashop Clough and straight up the path to (new checkpoint at) Fairbrook Naze - then along to Seal Stones and continue across to Golden Clough. I imagine the distance and climb would be about the same as the existing route.
Re: Tanky's trog 5/12/2010 is
The road would be better on roller blades though. :)

I like that! Gives us Glossopdalers a bit of an extra advantage/more opportunity to get lost. Not that I'm able to do the race this year - I'll be running in the New Zealand fjordland the day before (poor me!).
