It is incredibly windy! Actually, a gale is blowing... thought the roof was going to come off my house last night, don't think I have had it this bad here before :w00t:
Now off to my cross race, I don't know if I am going to stay on the bike!

Cripes, that was hard work... it is odd riding a cross race when it feels like you are actually on a pedalo on a very rough sea :( I hope this strange condition called Labyrinthitis goes soon, as I am getting rather fedup with feeling seasick 24/7...
just got my self a HED disc wheel and a Zipp 404 front wheel off ebay arrived at the weekend (both tubulars) ready for next years time trials.
just got to get fit over winter
(just got to resist the temptation to use them at the xmas fancy dress 10 at Milnthorpe on 18th December)
When you said that bike pics had to show the bike in the "big chain ring"....

You def dont want your deep section wheels on at this time of year.
My cosmics have just come off and my campagnolo eurus ones have been put on.
The best wheels for winter are in my view Zondas. They are bulletproof.
Im hoping to purchase some new deep sectioned wheels early in the new year. Not sure yeat what to buy?.
Might go back to running tubulars.
Been a few years.
Planet X had some real good bargains on recently.
Totally agree about the Zondas... I've got a set that are eight years old now and still going strong. That included converting them to tubeless with a Stans Kit last year for cross.
New wheels wise, have a look at Strada http://www.stradawheels.co.uk/
I've tested both their Carbon 88mm tubs and their Velocity A23 winter/training wheels.. both blew my away. You get to speak to the guy who's building your wheels, get a truing for life guarantee and a very nice set of ti QR skewers.
Yes the strada wheels look pretty goodId seen them on the here come the belgians site.Have to say ive had my mavic cosmics now over four years and after thousands of miles they are still bang on. I had one spoke tightened up at mercian ages ago and thats all ive had done.Tonight 100 minutes on the rollers. 1 hr in the 53x13 then the dreaded 1 min off , 1 min on flat out in the same gear. Managed 15 reps then just rolled out the remaining time. That was hard. Had to resort to 100 x classic sixties hits on the i phone.Incidentally not found the here come the dutchwomen website. Now have my here come the belgians kit, so i am truly a paid up member
Yes geronimo the cosmics are brilliant wheels but deep sections in high crosswinds are not great. Yes you can handle them but they just make life a bit difficult. But as deep rims go they very reliable. There is so much choice nowadays and wheels have come a long way.
lol Daz, I havent seen a here come the Dutchwomen site yet either :)
Now, how do I improve my cyclocross strength and fitness in less than two weeks? Any tips anyone?
Just abstain from everything thats bad for you and every luxury over the next fortnight. You will be faster.Surely
Can't believe you haven't found the ultimate Dutch Womens Cyclo Cross site???

Last night - Ran from work to spin (4 miles / 30 mins), span (50 mins), ran spin to home (3 miles / 20 mins). Same as Monday night.
So actually, no riding as such ...
I'd completely forgotten that I'd set that up last night! :))
It is really all Daz's fault for even suggesting there was such a site ;)
A horse was coming towards me as I was riding along a quiet narrow country road today - as we became level with each other the horse reared up and I got an earful of abuse. The horse and rider had plenty of time to see me - I had a bright yellow top on - should I have stopped as soon as I saw the horse?
No you shouldn't have stopped.
No, you should'nt... But what is helpful when encountering horses while you are on a bike is to actually talk... anything random will do, so the horse realises you are a human being. They can't hear bikes very well, or perceive what they are unless they are used to them and by talking they realise you are a human being and nothing to be afraid off...
I just say: I am just talking out loud so your horse knows I am nothing to be afraid of... works :) Or just saying good afternoon/morning to the rider, but not when you are right behind the horse, as they will still have a fright. They have a limited range of what they can see and are easily frightened by the unknown... so passing wide is a good idea, as they can't see what is behind them!
Oh ive eagerly rushed home to check out the herecomethedutchwomans site. Still only one picture on it.
I've got some good video of dutch cyclo-cross I could put on? ;)
Cmon hann i can get some tips. I can see this blog gaining momentum
Oh err right okay, lolErr right tonight 40 mins on rollers and a 12 mile run.
The blog has gained momentum! I have gotten access and have posted a picture... See what you have done now Daz? Next thing we know I will be writing up my cyclocross exploits :w00t:
