Just back from Wales having done the Rhinog section with Rob and David Waide. Christ that ground is tough, especially at the pace Rob was going. He started at 2.31 am just south of Barmouth bridge. We arrived at Bwlch Tyddiad at 07:02.
Good to hear he is keeping the fast pace up.

Rob is now heading onto the Arrans, looking strong and comfortable, and is still on schedule. Hopefully another update around 10pm, phone signal permitting

Unfortunately, he didn't make it. Rob decided to stop at the end of the Dyfi forest section. He'd been sick at the start of the section and the weather was deteriorating. It was slow going on the wet rock & Cader promised much more of the same so I think he thought it was better to stop rather than carry on and take more than 24 hours.

Rob gave it a hell of a good go (few could have held his pace over that ground for so long), but when he came in off Dyfi he was clearly 'on the way out'. Weather had closed in (I hit torrential rain at Dinas Mawddy on the way home) and sub 24 was not an option. If he had continued in that state of exhaustion and in those conditions it could easily have ended quite seriously on the rocks of Cadair at night.
I believe he made the correct decision, but it had to be his decision.
A fantasic effort and great day out for many who were new to the ground, it just brings home to everyone how hard this round is. Well done Rob and thanks. Moley.

Molehill I agree, the ground is the toughest I have been on. It felt like a battle to make progress at times. On the very first climb (as you know) we had to fight our way up and when we did slip you had a nasty little thorny plant to put your hand on every time. Rocks and heather cover most of the rest of the ascents and descents, and when the ground was good Rob flew across it, needless to say I found my first experience of the Merri and the Rhinogs relentlessly tough. To keep that pace going for 20 + hours on that ground is mighty impressive, and a great effort.
A bit more luck with your digestion and the weather and I'm sure you will complete it next time Rob.
Thanks all! The support team were brilliant. I had a great day out. At least it was my head not my legs that went. The thought of being on Cader in heavy rain and zero vis in an electrical storm at 1 a.m. wasn't the end I had in mind and I'm happy I pulled out when I did.
A few more observations to follow on this er, little challenge of ydt's.
