Oooh errr, that's better than mine!

I've heard rumbles from past races that cutting off the zig zags might not be allowed in future. I've not heard anything this year so I assume we can go straight up as on the maps?
I think the main concern is cutting off some of the earlier zigzags. In the Three Peaks Yacht Race, we had to follow all of the zigzags up to Red Burn going up and down and had an extra control at the lochan to make sure we did, but we were allowed to use the straight up and down route from Red Burn to the summit and back. It will be interesting to see whether any additional rules are issued with the race cards.
Thanks Marvin!
Has anyone received the race card yet? Site say they will be posted on 20th August.
A
yep mines just come.
mines here
Not long now!
Anyone got any advice about where to stay over on the Saturday night? Where is popular with runners? I know I've left it till late, but had a lot of really bad stuff on my plate over last few months.
I've done the Ben once before but never stayed over so am very unsure about what to plump for. Also, is there some organised post race piss up/presentation or does everyone just head into town? I've got my priorities sorted as you can tell!!!
Cheers,
MG
Yep :) ...and let's hope all that training we'd all planned to do wasn't really that necessary and we'll all get PBs on what little we have done...
Hope you find somewhere to stay MG, Fort William does get a tad full this weekend...maybe tourist info office could help...? Reckon you may have to pay for higher spec hotel though cos all b&b's'll be full...? But staying in town's well worth the evening and ability to rehydrate properly ;) without having to drive...
Presentation is (usually, suspect will be again this year) in big hall near sports hall / behind big supermarket top-side of town. Cracking good affair! Then Nevis bar is a good choice of venue for erm...post-race discussions (they also do good food - the Wharfedale gang go there before the presentation to restock)
There's no better way to put bad stuff behind you than a Ben weekend! See ya there!
You could try Alan Kimber's bunkhouse. It's decent quality as bunkhouses go and has prebooked rooms and seperate accomodation for people who turn up on spec. It's about 10mins walk from the town centre.

my mates stayed with alan kimber and hes run then to town in the past...but not back
is it just me or is anyone else getting a bit twitchy?
We camped at Glen Nevis last year, it's a quiet little campsite with all the facilites you could need.

Stop worrying Mudlugger, you'll be fine. I ran it last year and you're quicker than me! I just hope you get fantastic weather and get to see the views from the top as we did last year.
Hi Mrs Stagger! Its a shame you're not doing it this year, it would be good to see some familiar and friendly faces!
I'm VERY twitchy, slow to start with, almost no training, and a cock up of a race two weeks ago but I don't care - I'm out to enjoy it even if I do get ejaculated off the mountain at Red Burn.
We'll be staying in Glen Nevis too, the nice lady on the phone said they'll be busy but no need to book.
Celebrations / Piss ups: there's the awards which I think are in the toon but we're going to the Ben Nevis Inn at Achintee (we pass it on the race) http://www.ben-nevis-inn.co.uk/. Its fab in there, there's a Ceilidh at 9 but you definitely need to book for that, its there busiest day of the year.
Heres to some good summit weather. Not worried about getting up and down, just worried about me twigs, aka glass ankles. I'll strap em both up for this one and enjoy the descent. Not looking forward to the ascent though.:D
I take it youre not doing it this year?
MotVeryMiniMarvin and I are travelling up tomorrow by train (a bargain with a railcard when you book early) and staying at Glen Nevis for three nights.
Forecast doesn't look brilliant for Saturday :(
I'll be twitchy on the start line. Not sure what i'm looking forward to the most, the race or the drunken troublemaking later that night.:D:p
Best of luck to all you Benners, sorry to miss this but that's life, never mind:)
Have a great weekend to all the boys and girls traveling up for the Ben.
All the best and safe journeys.
PS Dont get in a car with Fleeter;)
I'd recommend the Glen Nevis for some Friday night grub but not on Saturday - you need to be in town where all the action is.
I think it could be a close call between the Bingley and the Wharfedale team for last men standing this year.....I assume Goldie, Sam and team will be blowing the froth off a couple on Saturday.
See you all in Fort William tomorrow.
