Walk/run up Beacon Hill, out via Felicity's Wood, back by direct route. No obstructed paths, but the farmers would have every right to get angry at several people I saw wandering across arable fields, apparently with no concept that people are actually trying to grow our food there. I hope that was just an Easter Monday phenomenon, with people who would normally have driven to some tourist honeypot forced to explore their locality instead.
To be honest I've not noticed much of an increase round here... it's always been a chronic problem outside of Coventry.
Although I do think tips should/could potentially remain open...
Considering my butchers are still open... which I am glad about as they are superb... but not sure how they're more essential than the various tips around here.
They could have left them open.
Down at our local one in Blackburn we are often queueing outside down the road, as many as 10 cars deep. The staff will only allow so many cars in and especially if there's a skip wagon in, then we have to wait as much as 15 minutes.
So if the normally have 12 cars in, why not cut that to 4? Perhaps you could apply for a time slot online?
People are at home, gardening, decorating, even some traders are working.
Fly tipping is awful, but this was entirely predictable.
9.59 miles, 2730 ft, 2 hours 19 minutes, over and around Loughrigg. Perfect weather again. To the people who left their blue plastic cutlery and their bag of dog mess above the caves - how much trouble would it have been to take it with you?
6k on bike encouraging girlfriend xx
Busy work day so got out later with Mrs WP for a fast walk around the Beamers Trail
7.4 mile, 870ft, 2:09
They occasionally do carol services in the largest one at Christmas 🎄
Struck down by plantar fasciitis! All this time for running is a cruel as offering a comb to a bald man!
Still, enjoying getting out on the bikes.
Today's PDE on a glorious evening was a 30 miles and 2,500 feet road ride around Chelmorton, Earl Sterndale, Biggin and Monyash. These are roads I regularly cycle on and today was by far the busiest, for numbers of cyclists, since the restrictions started. Perhaps people held back over the Bank Holiday W/E and are now going for it!
Done my off road loop round the old mines on the bike, 8.5 miles with 1825ft of upydowny which was plenty for me today, but pleased with it.
Longest walk yet with Mrs WP in this period.
14.4 miles, 980ft, 4:25
Not so hilly compared to some of our other efforts.
Started off with a cheeky sneak through Pleasington Golf Club which is normally out of bounds (no pun intended :D )
It looks a fantastic course and gave some really great views of the areas between Hoghton and Pleasington from a different perspective. It was weird to look down on the high viaduct that straddles the gorge at Hoghton Bottoms from the 12th tee.
From just above Hoghton bottoms plotted completely new routes for me. 4 to 10 miles was all new terrain and really pleasant countryside, other than crossing a few roads.
If weather holds out, might get tempted with Great Hill on Friday.
9.52 miles, 2,700 ft, 2 hours 19 minutes; around on the minor road to Troutbeck, up Nanny Lane to Wansfell true top, along the ridge - almost dry! - to Wansfell Pike, down the race route a couple of times. Wow, what perfect conditions.
Gentle outing around bridleways where girlfriend use to ride her horses. Easier on a horseback than bike.
Today's PDE was a gentle 4 miles run around some local fields with my son. Nothing of note to report other than the ground is so dry that cracks are appearing. We need some rain!
Yesterday was a walk round local farm tracks.
There were far more people on the track than the M6, almost impossible to distance.
It really is a concern : too many dog owners letting dogs off leads that mix, then the separation of dogs inevitably involves touching both. Defeats the object.
8k on the bike, all hills, lovely morning.
Went up the hill to the standing stone, about 61/2 miles and over 1000ft. Legs were not functioning after yesterday's ride so walk up and jogging on the flat and down.
7 miles , 66 minutes, 180 ft, around the fields near the Roman ruins. Quite a few out walking today, so I had to keep changing course. Some picnickers as well, right next to the paths. I saw no litter at all, and even more gates are now tied open, so I did not have to touch anything.
first run since 27/3 but I've done close to 200 miles of walking in between.
3 1/4 mile, 27:48 around Witton and quite happy with a 8:34 pace after a long day out yesterday.
Had my first encounters with some of the local pond life today during lock down.
Took the road route in to Witton to avoid running down the narrow track I usually take to enable keeping the requisite gap.
On arriving at the main gates which are shut to keep the card out, I encountered pond life No1 stood in the 5ft wide entrance, with headphones on, messing with his phone.
I stopped, he didn't bat an eyelid.
"Do you think you can step back please to let me through?
"Take a chill pill mate!"
He still stood there.
I asked again, received a scowl, and he stepped aside.
A minute later, I approached 4 lads spread across a 4-5 metre wide road walking in the same direction with a pit-bull off lead.
I picked the best line, probably just about keeping a 2m gap.
Dog comes pelting towards me, I stopped.
Owner starts shouting at dog.
I took a step back and prepared to kick hard if I had to, but stepped back in to one of the lads.
"Relax mate, calm down a little"
"I'm relaxed, at least as relaxed as someone would be when a pitbull is coming at you".
He got hold of the dog.
"It might be a good idea to pop the lead on it. There's others in the park.
On I went.
After a couple of hundred yards I turned right on to a field and started running up almost parallel to the road, noting the 4 lads walking as a group across the field towards me, but at a distance.
Dog still off lead :/
i don't necessarily subscribe to this 2 metre distancing being chapter&verse on keeping us all safe from infection... various experts seem to have claimed it could be anything from 1 metre to the width of a road (what road? the M6 or the Hardknott Pass?)
But that is the guideline and so i do my utmost to respect that whenever i'm out...
A great many people who don't believe in it, just don't care though... hence your experience above...
Yet to encounter any social distancing problems between 0400-0630, the friendly local farmer has left all his gates open and if he is around he is happy to exchange a few pleasantries nice bloke, the dawn chorous is a joy, often see Hares, Deer, Stoats, first of the adders this week
But best of all I am back home playing with my toys when the madding crowd is out, in fact to date I have nothing to twinne about (but then I dont do social media) and I only look for positives long may it continue.
Stay safe people
I'm with my toys too...two wheeled motorised by any chance??
I think this is exactly the attitude you need to take to thrive at a time like this...
Whilst I don't like being stuck at home, it's a chance to concentrate on training hard... (not much else to do other than train and work!)
If I get furloughed I'm planning to use the additional time to really push on with learning Italian.
Might as well get out the other side having done something worthwhile...
Four wheels first namely a 1989 Cherry red mini 30 (completly bog standard resto to maintain it`s value) a fair bit of panel replacement needed which is always interesting I am hoping that once the resto is complete I will be able to tow it behind my T3 Campervan (Just for fun and only occasionly for winter trips) also once the mini 30 is done I will then be able to unearth my BMW R65 and start the restoration on it, again with the intention of towing behind the Campervan for trips into Scotland (Summertime} there is also a mini Racing Green to be restored but that baby is a long way from standard with a some interesting mods but thats on the back burner at the moment.
I am guessing your toys are two wheel based are they British, Japenese, German or maybe American then again Perhaps italian based?
I am sure that playing with toys is well within the Goverment TPE remit as I find Mechanicing is both mentally and Physically demanding and rewarding therefore this is the appropiate thread to discuss it.
Have fun and stay safe.
Todays PDE was a 52 mile and 5,200 feet bike ride over to the Hope Valley and a lovely, car and fume free, ascent of Winnats Pass. Down into Chapel en le Frith, Whaley Bridge and up Long Hill to Buxton and then back home.
Very few cyclists or people about until I got to Chapel and Whaley when the roads were busy with cars and people. I found this a bit odd but perhaps it was because this was the first time I have been into a town or highly populated area for over 3 weeks.
Plan to keep to the sticks from now on!

New police guidelines issued on lockdown rules, and 'reasonable' reasons to leave home
The Crown Prosecution Service has developed new guidance to end the confusion of what police can and cannot enforce in the lockdown.
At a Glance guide to Dos and Don'ts
Dos
Drive to countryside but walk must take longer than time driving
Short rest on a park bench during long walk
Buy non-essential items or luxuries during weekly shop at supermarket
Buy small amounts of staples or necessities like milk, newspaper and pet food
Collect surplus basic food items from a friend
Buy tools and supplies to repair a fence panel
Travel to work when not reasonably possible to work from home
Deliver food packages to vulnerable people
Moving to a friend’s address for several days to allow a ‘cooling-off’ after arguments at home
Take an animal for treatment
Don’t’s
Drive for a prolonged period with only brief exercise
Take a short walk to a park bench but then remain seated for a much longer period
Choose to work from home in a local park
Knock on doors offering to do cash in-hand work
Visit a vet’s surgery in person to renew a prescription when it could be done over the phone
Visit a friend in their address or meeting in public to socialise
Buy paint and brushes, simply to redecorate a kitchen
Whether the police will follow those guidelines is another matter.
Last Saturday I drove 2.5 miles to a local trail, to start and finish my 10 mile run. I guess it must have taken me five or six minutes to do get there. There was only one other car parked in the vicinity.
When I got back to my car, there was a police flyer underneath the windscreen wipers. It was a general document, but one of the things it said was that you shouldn't drive at all to exercise. This was already at odds with the guidance of their own National Police Chiefs Council's guidance from 10 days earlier. This had said that people were permitted to drive a reasonable distance to exercise. The police who had put the flyer on my car obviously had my registration plate in front of them, so could have easily performed a DVLA check to ascertain that this is exactly what I had done.
Since then, I have not driven to exercise, only running from my house. I have no confidence in the police to follow the law or their own guidance and I don't want to get a fine.
The first "Do" on the CPS list makes it even more explicit that you can drive a reasonable distance to exercise.
Drive to countryside but walk must take longer than time driving
Will it make any difference?
Whilst interesting and heartening in many ways, I would be wary of viewing this as a list of 'Dos and Donts'. This is police guidance for what is 'likely to be ok' within the law. What is morally right is perhaps a different matter. A two hour drive for a 5 hour recce of Borrowdale is probably a stretch!
I've got 3 road based hilly circuits around me. 14 miles 1600ft climb that I do on my mountain bike since I am resting my plantar fasciitis. Do a circuit alternate days. Its turned out to be excellent exercise and I've dropped the half stone I gained since stopping racing. It's not as satisfying as running but needs must!
