I was thinking the same. I've recently finished reading the previous one and I'm usually at least one edition in arrears. :o

It's arrived today
Has ChopSticks changed his name to Dave?
Is there a Trigger in the FRA?
I'm not doing very well in the "Name that fell" challenge in the latest issue.
The picture on page 7 is presumably Windermere; taken from Wansfell?
Page 11: Wasdale Head?
Page 23: I really haven't a clue, none of the fells have particularly distinctive shapes.
Page 26: even I can recognise Stoodley Pike!
Page 84: looking down Ennerdale, with Pillar on the left, Hay Stacks and High Stile on the right. Is the viewpoint Green Gable?
I think that's all the unidentified pictures in this issue.
P23 I think is from green gable looking down into gillercombe and borrowdale beyond.
I'd agree with you on P84 and P11
I've just noticed another unidentified photo: page 51, looking down towards Buttermere (on the right) from Robinson.
Am I the only one who still hasn't received their copy?
Yup!

One of the best ever editions! Really like the Denise Park strengthening article, well explained and much better than many a similar article in Athletics Weekly.
Received this morning :)
A bumper 170 page epic thudded onto my doormat this morning. Great photos and articles including Digby's Etive Munros round. Well done.
Another brilliant edition and huge too! Well done all for putting this together.
It is great and some good articles - such as juggling, etc. But....why do some competitors complete the Withins Skyline race on their knees (see p167 bottom photo) - seems a bit rough.
And does Finlay Wild wear Walshes on one foot and INOV-8s on the other? See photos-ad inside front cover and also p170 :D Both companies seem to be claiming his allegiance.
I've had the calendar book :) Just waiting for the mag.
HI all - I am still yet to receive the Autumn or Winter 2017 Fell Runner magazines. Am I right we should receive every one every quarter? Any ideas who I can get in touch with? Many thanks
Yes you should have had it by now, think it is 3 not 4 a year tho.
Suggest you check with membership sec that you are still a member? Have you moved? Get contact details from last copy or FRA website
Got mine today. It appears (from comments in that other place, f*c*b**k) that Royal Mail have made a complete foul-up of delivering both the magazine and the calendar/handbook, resulting in a huge amount of extra work for Charmian posting replacement copies to many people like me who have not received one or both of these. So many thanks to Charmian for dealing with the situation efficiently. Apparently, Royal Mail are investigating.
To the magazine itself: I'm totally clueless on the "Name that fell" competition: unidentified pictures on pages 7, 8, 10 (are there any more?). The picture on p.85 will presumably result in an official FRA inquiry: did she fall or was she pushed; things like this don't just happen so conveniently close to a photographer . . . .
Anyway, I look forward to reading the magazine properly, now that I have had my scan through the pictures.
The 1981 Fixture Calendar reproduced in Graham Breeze's article brought back memories. In particular, I remember getting one of the 25 spot prizes given out at that year's Pendle race to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the race, although I don't remember much about the race itself (and the results are missing from my results archive; there must be someone with a copy of the 1981 Pendle results out there, that they could copy for me?). I also remember the Edale Skyline: running out of steam over Brown Knoll, with the rest of the race being a real struggle to keep going (which is probably why I never did that race again :( ). But what I hadn't remembered was that Pendle and Edale were on the same weekend (which may explain my difficulties at Edale).
More generally, looking at the 1981 Calendar, I was surprised to see how many Northern Irish races are listed, although most of them were categorised "N", (New). When I had first joined the FRA three years earlier, there was only Slieve Donard in NI. I was also surprised at how few Scottish races were listed (this was before the advent of the SHRA, WFRA and NIMRA, so races throughout the UK would generally be listed).
Thank you, but I've found the Fellrunner report on the FRA website. Top 20 in that sort of field would have been quite an achievement!
Presumably there would have been a copy of those results carefully filed away in Bill Smith's archive. I wonder what happened to his collection of fell running documents after he died?
Another excellent Fellrunner magazine delivered today. Excellent articles and photos feature amongst other things a nice tribute to John Hewitt and a photo of this forums Noel. Well done.
Already? But I haven't finished the last one yet!
MrRTS is in it! He is totally buzzing, bless him. Love that they have put a full page of all his 50@50 races in too. The Fellrunner is the best magazine there is IMO. They published a great write up of our (Post) Litton Christmas Cracker too in the results section.
I may be a while reading all of this. Super edition :-) Thanks Fellrunner
Just tripped over it behind the door.
Brill😁👍
Some great articles by forumites...
Just arrived.
Some great stuff in latest including: interview with Jonny Muir prior to his book launch, Anthony Kay's best/worst race article, Cal Ferguson on coping with diabetes, and history of Wrekin and Snowdon races (great cover photo from felly). Well done Dave + all the team.
Yes it is a great cover photo. I'd like to see more photographers, myself included, using black and white.
Thanks Steve. A pleasure to be amongst some of those articles with my own. I've had an overwhelming response to mine, something I didn't expect...even had people asking for tips on managing the condition etc, really amazed, but then again, I suppose that's why I wrote it!
Indeed, it is rather gratifying to be picked out for praise by such an accomplished author as Steve Chilton. Thanks, Steve.
I wonder if mine will be waiting on the doormat when I get home tonight? Fingers crossed.
Interesting to have two articles in this issue on the history of races that are 40+ years old: Wrekin and Snowdon. One connection between the two races is that both were won first time by Dave Francis of Westbury Harriers (Bristol); not a well-known name in fell-running, but he must have been a formidable athlete. Elsewhere on this forum, his name appears as the winner of the Machen race in 1977, the oldest race in South Wales that we have been able to find any record of. Searching round the internet, I haven't been able to find out much about him, but he came second in the Barnsley Marathon in 1978, which was a time when marathons were few and far between, and Barnsley was one of the most prestigious.
I ran the Wrekin race six times when it used to be held on a Saturday afternoon; easy to travel to by public transport. My first Wrekin race was in the same year that a bloke from RAF Cosford turned up for his first try at a fell race . . .
The Snowdon article was one of two in this issue by Neil Shuttleworth, a man who seems to be very much in the Bill Smith tradition: an accomplished athlete himself, and also a great writer on the history and characters of the sport.
Interestingly the first time I did the Wrekin race a guy from Cosford turned up, Ross Campbell, he was a mile ahead and apparently got sent the wrong way by a Marshall and finished 2nd. He'd also won the Stretton Skyline the previous September by a mile, the first time I did that race as well.
Not seen his name around in the last year or so though...
Still not recieved mine yet, been away last week and presumed it would be here on my return, no luck.
