I would say that its forecast to be 0 or above all week, but our local forecast didn't have this snow on it....
Snowing here! :)
And here at last
Snow here and has been for last hour:)
Big thaw here! Booooo! :(
Could be running to work again at 5:30 - car looks a bit trapped in.............
The snow has turned to rain in Barnsley
Snow in Calderdale but rain in Keighley this morning.
Starting to snow here. Fast and thick, but small flakes
Snowing in Ripponden and looking pretty claggy, kid's school open again, Mrs's school closed again.
I have to say Biara I have some sympathy for teachers etc but not sure whats happening this morning. I live in a reasonably high spot on the edge of the peak. we get alot of snow and there are two schools within 50m of my house. Both appear to be closed
The roads are clear up here despite the 4 inches over night, buses are running as normal, Daughter went to her school in Sheffield this morn. Wife has Driven to work in Huddesfield( not unknown for snow). I'm just setting off to go to Sheffield. My running partner went to Leeds this morning.
so why would they be closed???
B roads haven't been gritted or ploughed on the colne valley. Traffic to Hudds (5 miles) is backed up to Slawit. Three of my colleagues are gridlocked in Wakefield. I'm guessing that there are a few teachers, cops, bin men etc caught up in it. The 1 in 5 lane at the end of my road is an ice rink, 100 yards down to the A62.
Look at original post IDP. My school is in Exley / Siddal, and is at the top of a hill. Off the main road, Calderdale council have not gritted for over a week. The area is council / mainly low income area, my school is a 'challenge' school due to the low starting level of the pupils. A significant number are free school meals / special needs / from very low income homes. It irritates me that the council can be bothered to clear 'high achieving' schools but leaves ours to suffer. Last week 3 teachers ended up with cars facing wrong way after skidding due to the roads. I'm annoyed, I want to teach, I like my job!!!!!
Sorry if it sounded like I was having a go at you Biara, I wasn't. As I said I have sympathy. just can't figure out why the schools near to me are closed roads clear( well done Sheffield Council, don't say that very often) and gritted.
I also live near the top of a Hill as are the schools.
Was snowing here in Ilkley at 6.00 am and has been since.
Small flakes, then a period of proper snow, back to small flakes now.
Been out to do a spot of food shopping and there is an underlying thaw here. It's very slushy out.
The beginning of the end for us up here as the Atlantic front makes its presence felt?
Snowing here in Lancs.
Time for another run.
Still coming down, but mainly slush.
Its now doing what is does best in Preston - Raining.:(
Its that really depressing sort of rain, probably not helped by that fact that seeing snow melt and go all dirty is equally as depressing.
The pavements and roads are still lethal though, but one thing i have noticed as the roads become clear again...the amount of tarmac that has crumbled away. Pot-holes everywhere.
The ice must have got into any cracks, did what water does when it freezes and expanded and boom...the road falls apart.
They never bloody gritted it once so i can put money on that they'll never come and flippin mend the road either.
Rant over.
It started snowing on the 18 dec. we've never been free from it since, and it's dropped anther 4 or5 ins. today, and it's still snowing.
Where's my sledge?
Or we can sit here thinking about spending next weekend in the Lakes, where I suspect a little snow may linger even then. In fact, we may even have to walk in 4 miles. We're staying at Hartsop, and according to the AA and the RAC the road's closed between Glenridding and Troutbeck.
Aye i knew what you mean.
Ive arranged that when it snows like this again in another 30-40 years time, all my sledging pals will have to meet up again and sledge.:D
Apparently, they'll be old and knackered by then and i'll still be running back up the hill every time like a child.:D
.......still snowing if just lightly, not stopped all day but the roads are clear...
Looks like another load on it's way tuesday night/wed morning and then a thaw come the weekend. It will be slow though, and then you'll be wishing the snow would return as it wil be a hell of a mess once this stuff melts.
Up to 18inches by me in Salop.:)
Of course when it does thaw you better hope it's a slow one or there is going to be one mother of a flood.......
I can see it now on the news "following this years impressive snow a totally unpredictable flood has caught all un preprepared..."
Oh and Al It has Just stopped.;)
