Only if you know where your going cos I havn't got much of a clue!
What's it like? I'm not hugely familiar with the area and haven't got round to looking at the checkpoints on a map yet - is it obvious or will I be consulting my map? (I can't rely on following people, I'm generally hanging off the back of the pack....)
And is pre-entry advised or does it not generally reach the limit?
Hi Sloth, really nice route, crossing over Burbage Moor and Higger Tor,it is fairly obvious and you should be able to follow other runners, although there maybe a few different route choices. The crossing from the Ox Stones to Burbage edge could be slightly tricky in poor visability. It might be worthwhile submitting a pre-entry or get there reasonably early. Hope this helps.
Sloth (& anyone else)
I am proposing to have a shufti round the course this weekend if you want to come with me - probably 12.30 ish on Saturday.
There is a fair bit of route choice probably best summed up by if you're not familiar with the area stick to the paths or follow a Totley or DPFR vest, if you are familiar you can indulge in some heather bashing which can give you 2 or 3 shortcuts.
It never reaches the limit but I advise pre-entry to avoid the registration queue as it invariably attracts ~350.
Regards, Darth
I'm up for that Darth.
Where are you setting off from?
Not sure yet. I'm currently donning my b*****d in the black uniform, to ref a game of footy first at HSBC Dore then I'll pootle up the road to Ringinglow straight after. If the match doesn't happen, I'll be going at 11ish from my house at Ecclesall. I'll put a post up Friday when I know more.
Any room for me to tag along Darth? I could do with checking out a few bits of the route as I always tend to stick to the same trods round there....
Thanks for the replies. I'm in the Lakes this weekend but may do a walk around parts of it on the Saturday. I know the Burbage Edge and Higgar Tor areas fairly well so I'm not overly concerned about getting too lost, but it would be nice to have a better idea of the route before I set off from the start line!
If it's a similar standard of entry to the races further north I really won't have the option of following a totley vest as I'm usually right at the back, occasionally with a handful of other equally slow people who if I'm lucky will confirm I am still going the right way!
Recced some of this on Sunday and it was pretty grim. Conditions under foot ranged from ankle high freezing cold slush to shin high snow with a crusty top to knee deep snow drift. Hope it's melted a lot more for you this weekend. Those with waterproof socks seemed the happiest in the group too.
