Try sticking to Tim Tett if you can - if you do you'll not have any problems on route choice
I haven't dug a tunnel and I don't own any golfing attire. Can I still run?
Following jodg's rave reviews I'll be using the call of the beer at the finish to drag me up onto Kinder. The things we do for ale...!
Peak District weather forecast for Sunday is very good.
Winds - Westerly 10 mph to later 15 mph :D
No rain; No cloud; Bright sunshine, clear air; Temp - 0 to 1 deg C @ high level
2 to 5 in valley's.
Kit Requirments:- (its still winter)
Full windproof body cover, hat and gloves, map (bearings) and compass suitable to navigate the route, whistle, suitable footwear for the terrain, emergency food.
You must carry / wear a long sleeve thermal base layer, it is advised you carry a second long sleeve thermal / light weight fleece in case of emergencies (a survival bag would be a distinct advantage).
IT IS STILL COLD AND WOULD NOT TAKE LONG FOR YOU TO SUFFER HYPOTHERMIA IF YOU WERE INJURED.
Be safe and enjoy, we want you back next year. :)
Andy, Brent and Ian
If your not in Edale before it gets dark, you'll be walking home;)
Righto Tanky's Fans, we have another spare seat on the edale to mardsen non stop express super-fun mini bus (actually just a normal mini bus!) leaving Edale at 6.30am. Or you can get a lift from South Sheffield at 5.50!
will cost about £10.
Sorry for the very late notice but I won't be able to race tomorrow: my mum got admitted to hospital yesterday and, although she's basically ok, I don't think I can justify being away all day.
I told her that if she didn't want me to do the race she could have just said so, she didn't have to take such drastic steps :)
Cheers,
Clare Griffin (no. 18 I think?)
Weather forcast for postcode sk14 8jt, which is in Hollingworth is for dense fog!!! Good luck with the navigation!!!
Had an hour from Nags Head, Edale this morning to check on the short crossing over Kinder.......what a beautiful beautiful day :)
Hope tomorrow is much of the same...
the forecast remains the same. spikes might me useful on the ice!
weather
No rain but don't skimp on the warm clothes.
I'm afraid I'm going to have to be a late drop out. Having sorted out transport back from the finish I've now got troubles just getting there! Not sure if have people wanting to run so thought it was worth posting on the forum. Can't remember number, but it's in the 180's I think, anway I'm Mandy Clarke, Bingley so whatever number I have.
Sorry, looks like it would have been a good challenge too and maybe even the cold weather making some of the boggy ground less boggy!
m.
Thanks Richard.
Just got back from the finish with Andy and the Hall is suitably dressed for the occasion:D The finish line is in the grounds of the Jolly Rambler Pub so it would be nice if a few of you could pop in for a beer afterwards. :D
For those of you new to Edale the village hall where food/Prize giving is laid on about 50m down the road in the main car park.
See you all at the start on Sunday.
Ian, Andy and Brent
Just back from France and feel loads better
Might run it hard ?? , maybe not.
Whats those flags gonna be like :(.
On thursday night it was bloody damm cold on the feet. Dont forget the sealskinz if you have them.
Hope everyone enjoys it and watch out for each other
Good luck with the race peeps. Am working all day but will be keeping an eye on the posts late afternoon.
just setting off for the start. very frosty and a clear starlit morning brrrrrrrr!
Everyone have a good run, take care underfoot :)
Best of luck to all;)
Well they were off on time, with a good following breeze.
Daz the racing snake was in 5th position when they passed me.
Best of luck to everyone and enjoy a great day.
Many thanks to all the organisers, mountain rescue and those out supporting runners. A cracking day and well run race. Hope all got home safe.
Right, off to the bath to make some fog as sadly there wasn't any on the hills.
Many thanks again.
Might have the beer in the bath...
Top day out although a few spots tricky underfoot! Those slabs when icy are a 'mare!!
Strong running y'all!
Thanks to Brian, AP and MR for sorting!
Cracking race today, tough race.
Thanks to all the oranisers and marshalls.
Results were slightly dodgy but we all know where we finished:p
Brave lad Daz H in the shorts!:p
Excellent day on the hill - weather superb with just the wrong kind of going underfoot for all those who, like me, had planned for a boggy Bleaklow crossing. The inconsistency of the snow pack probably made sure that all routes were pretty tough going from Crowden to the Snake.
I'd also like to echo all the thanks for the marshalling, for Woodhead MRT and especially for Andy and his team who have taken over Tanky's Trog.
Maintaining continuity for a long standing Peakland Classic like this is very important, and I'm sure that all the runners are very grateful that the race didn't just stop.
Talking about "Fell Classics", my spies tell me that GrahamB ventured into the Peak District today, but chose to do The Gravy Pud instead.
Well I'm knackered and I was only watching :)
Damn batteries went just as I was getting into the camera lark - will post what I have but it won't be much.
This looked like a great race, I can't wait to do it next year and well done to everyone who have kept this race going.
Well done all!
