In the dark tonight, running up the slope towards Attermire scar, hundreds of black slugs on the wet grass. After picking my way through, passed one, then another meaty frog out for the buffet. The first surprised me by jumping into my foot, just managed to avoid treading on it.
Saw what I think was a young cuckoo hopping along a wall yesterday. It was up on Addingham moorside, nearer SIlsden really, in an area where cuckoos could be heard earlier in the year. It kept itself just a bit too far in front to be easily identified, but was a bit smaller than a kestrel but defo bigger than say, a blackbird. rough outline like a raptor but a kind of arched posture with shortish legs...
a few marmotts yesterday basking on the slopes while walking and a pair of peregrines on todays big climb, seen plenty of buzzards over the last two weeks and a Kite.
No eagles though which is a bit disappointing
Marmots? Eagles? I take it you're not on Ilkley Moor then!
Another nocturnal run in Settle, one startled looking hedgehog that curled up as I ran past on banks lane, one large frog sat in the middle of the road on constitution hill as I came back down. It hopped off in listless annoyance when I leant in to try and identify it. Must start carrying a camera.
