Really enjoyed my first Lakes race. It was a lot of water everywhere but the race was rain free and the views were generally good as only the top of scafell Pike and Great Gable was in the cloud.
A big thank you to the all the Marshalls for a for a well organised race.
Now I could write one of my long-winded reports, but I'm too tired...
I was with Steve the Manx Pony when four of us were timed out... bugger!!
But fair enough to Scoffa, it's his call not mine and we weren't there in time.
I could blame the weather, but apart from some low cloud / navigation issues, it was nigh on fine... some of the views were awesome (as you would hope for in that part of the world:D).
I didn't have a good day performance-wise, spending far too long getting up off the floor:o, but only one fall (of about ten) was a bone shaker.
I have mixed feelings... was it so bad to be timed out?
Yes, it bloody was!
But I have only myself to blame and it just means that it is unfinished business...
Battered and bruised, and back for more next year (if I can).
Well done to all that started and all that finished, it is a bloody tough day out. And to the marshalls and organisers, thank you... in the usual perverse way, that we all understand, but struggle to define, I have enjoyed a great experience:D.
All in all a bad day for me.
I was knackered at the start, felt light headed on top of Scafell Pike, had a bonk of epic proportions (:D) after Great Gable, found myself off on my own too and took a very crap wrong turn before finding my way down to Honister, eventually got going again with the aid of some fruit pastels but I was in a fairly shabby state from there to the end. Something was just not right with me yesterday and I felt under fueled all the way really.
And if I see another frigging, god forsaken, bastard boulder............
And I lost my wallet (at Tebay I think) on the way :(.
And I came back to a very big bunfight with the other half :(

Well done Stolly for finishing in your weakened state.
I dropped out a Sty Head, feeling a bit tired but with a Walsh in bits. I suspect the scree after Scafell Pike did for it.
However, on the road a nice lady from Clayton gave me and a Settle runner a lift back. Unfortunately, I left my bumbag and its contents in her silver car.
I do not know her name but she had been 'bagging' her 198th Wainwright Seathwaite Fell and is a member of Clayton. Gary Wilkinson thinks that it is Paul Thompson's mum, but I am not sure.
I would appreciate any info from a Clayton runner (or anyone else) on the lady or bumbag because I currently have an excuse to avoid running in the rain (no waterproofs).

Anybody know the story behind the trail of blood - lots of it - down the screes off Scafell Pike? I was expecting to find a body at the bottom. And also, does anybody know if those little inov-8 gaiters work? I had to empty my shoes 4 times yesterday.
Don't know any thing about the blood but easy to understand. just how does any one run on that wet rock. Next year I will wear roller skates as they must be an improvement.:oQuote:

only my second lakeland race and the first I've finished in one piece:rolleyes:
i had to drop out at Styhead with a pulled hamstring. first race i have not finished and a long limp down to the finish. friends that were waiting at styhead for me said that a few runners came through with cut faces arms and legs so looks there had been a few fallers. one had a very badly cut top lip.
will be back next year to have another go hopefully

Good run out for my first Borrowdale. Took it steady, so glad it didn't rain. I remember looking up at Gable and thinking how immense that lump of rock is.
All OK (apart from slippy descents!) until Honister. Stopped there for a few minutes to sort out bum bag, drink etc and then couldn't get going again. Happy with my time though (4h 19m), up for more of the same next year defo. :)
