Calling all Ponies...
The Fat Fellmonster has been secretly designing a race route around the Rochdale Hills and we are pondering staging it sometime (possibly next summer as it may be a bit short notice for this year)
Who would be willing to get involved in the disorganisation?
Guided tours available anytime but be warned.....its deceptively tough, we reckon about 7 miles/2000ft but havent measured it with a fancy watch.
Ricky has even made a slideshow of the route but the file is too big for the Pony site...but im sure he'd be happy to present it....the ballbag:D
Where the heck is Rochdale, be full of cowboy's n ballbags nee doubt:D
I might just come along and catch a suntan if thats okay? lol
I promise you it's the hardest route I've run outside of any national park.
Slideshow is 25Mb and hotmail only allows 10Mb to be sent.....if anyone can tell me how to solve this dilemma, I'll happily forward them the slideshow....
guided tours available through the master and I......do be warned though.....it's a bitch ;)
PS- I am not fat
Yup, I'll help with the disorganisation.....not going to be the 2nd weekend in June though is it...you lot might be a bit busy that weekend!! ;)
Seriously though Ricky, I helped with the organisation of the inaugrul Hendersons end race when I was with Lostock....there will be a lot of people to write grovelling letters to for access etc, give us a shout if you need a hand! :D
Excellent.....if it was possible to stage it this summer, I'd be all for it....failing that we'd have to wait a whole year....
Much appreciative of the offer or help Emmi, and we may well take you up on it....I've passed relevant information to the Master who happens to know the person who knows at least one of the people we need to make contact with.......not sure how we go about checking who owns other land in the area.....it seems to be all public access ....do we need to check with the council?
There's a stile or two and its an out and back route (not a boring straight line however)......one of the best routes for spectators to view......from several vantage points you could see runners perhaps 6 times in the race (an advantage for marshalls and good for safety I'd reckon).....and yet the route is certainly not tedious or boring for the runners......
Loving the name suggestion Amex too......that'd look good in the calendar?
Great write up on the FP site from Simon about the Manx M well done those ponies!
Pencil me in the the BGR relay (need to find a spa day for the wife first )
Yep, you'll have to see how many landowners land the route covers and seek specific permission for that, then also the council and see if any land is owned by the NT or any utilities group etc.
I have a copy of the letter I wrote but on the lap top at home - PM your emyther and I'll send it your way :D
6 or 7 times past the same point! Is this the resurrection of the Healey Dell Soft Guys Race (10 laps of Fellmonster's Garden, carrying your handbag, and having to drink a small glass of lime cordial on each lap)?
As far as getting permissions goes, I've tried two approaches.
1. Run the race anyway, without telling anybody. This did result in 186 runners going through a live firing range with all those pretty red flags flying. Ho hum.
2. Traipse round the farms and chat up the farmers. Probably best, as it's harder to say no to a relatively human face. Just don't wear your tight lycra leggings and a pink vest
There's no obvious encroachment onto private land at all......but I'll certainly look into it.....
Emmi, my e-mail is [email protected] be grateful for the letter you mentioned earlier.
The race doesn't pass the same point 6 times.....I said you'd have a good view of runners 6 times from the one point.....
Oh, and pudgy.....I predict you'd bonk BEFORE the 5 mile mark!
