A Short eared owl on the northern path of Black Hill. A couple of rabbits at Crowden. I also nearly trod on a mountain Hare at Black Hill End, it shot off at a speed I can only dream of achieving.

Im pretty sure it was a peregrine.
Too large for a kestrel, wrong shaped wings for a buzzard (and a tad on the small side), certainly not a harrier. Can't think what other raptor it could be.
lots of hares on my bike ride this evening, always nice, but the best bit was a pair of barn owls hunting on the common...almost got a photo as one landed on a post but it watched me cycle downhill towards it, get my camera out and focus and then flew away just at the crucial moment!:D
Hare & plenty of rabbits on Meltham moor.
I was been buzzed by peregrines climbing up to Dog Rock by Shelf Benches a couple of years ago. Err.. I was climbing that is. They were flying.
I've spotted Peregines there too. I think spotted a male Hen Harrier there once, but it was too fleeting to be certain, that part of the Peak is fantastic for raptors.Quote:

The irony is that I have been jumping through (v expensive) hoops recently regarding planning permission and bat conservation. My car has probably done more harm than the proposed building will ever do to the bat population!!!
Was running on the cliff path between Robin Hoods Bay and Ravenscar on Sunday afternoon. Some walkers coming in the opposite direction told me there was an Adder on the path 100 yards on. I poceeded warily to make sure I didn't tread on it. And there it was bold as brass on the edge of the path hissing away. I didn't hang about.
I saw a fox this evening. It is the first one I've seen since I've lived in the countryside. It was a slender thing, not like the big bruisers in the towns!
