Pretty new to this bike business but went out for 25m around Kendal and Sedbergh this morning. Really enjoyed it and spent quite a while afterwards looking at the OS map planning future trips into the dales on the new bike. Think I might have been bitten by the bug:thumbup:
Just done a 25mile time trial with Kent Valley Road club in Kendal tonight. 1st 25 since 1982 and after a total of 200 miles this year was please to do it in 1hr 8mins but cant walk now!!
15 miles home from work 55 mins fantastic! but now feel like i have slept with Village people, in a drug fueled night of lust!
Because you have! Why do you think we love cycling so much here? ;)

11 miles from Shap to work at Penrith and same back.
Buley to Saltaire. 3 pints of Golden Pippin & 1 Black & Tan. Then on the canal to The Fishermans for another pint. Up to The Busfield Arms for another pint of something. Then the tortuous climb up to Keighley Gate & fast descent down in to Ilkley for a pint of Ilkley Stout in Bar T'at. All finished off with a fantastic curry in Kiplings in Ilkley & the train back. A great night.
25k recovery ride this morning, spinning the legs tried to cadence at around 100 and Hr below 75%.
Managed both and used every gear on the bike, the head wind and 400m of acent made slow going up but I averaged 38kph on the last 10k of down with a tail wind.
Legs appear to be back working again after yesterday's Kirby Gala (BOFRA) outing.
Sprained my ankle badly whilst recceing Duddon Race route on Saturday so no running for a while. Bike is fine though so i will be getting out a bit more and trying to put some distance in. Did 35m today from Kendal out towards Kirkby Lonsdale and up to Killington with 850m climbing. Enjoyed it.
I did about 850 metres of climbing too tonight! Wizzed up onto Hatterall Ridge, whoop inducing descent off it again, then rode back up in the other direction, for another descent on the other side... Lovely couple of hours, cool evening sunshine, LOADS of mud :D

You'll need to join BMBO for insurance ( free on line ). Helmet, multi-tool, puncture repair kit, small first aid kit are compulsory ( you have to be self sufficient, a la audax ).
Totally addictive once you've done an event.
Glad I made the effort tonight. Torrential rain as I was leaving the house to meet my mate, but it soon dried up and the sun even came out over the Lyth Valley. Kendal - Crook- Bowness - Lyth Valley - Brigsteer. 27 mile and according to my Garmin 2500 calories!!!! Can't believe that but i did have my HR monitor on. Probably just eaten it all back on anyway:wink:
Not today, today is a rest day :)
But yesterdays ride: 101 kms around Ashton Court MTB trails in Bristol, racing Bristol Bikefest 12 hour mixed pairs :) We ended up on the podium in 3rd place :) I could get used to this you know ;)

28k on tired legs this morning. Yesterdays Bofra event was only short so I went for another run when I got home.
This morning it was like having two blocks of lead strapped to my backside.
I need to work harder and get used to this pain of training again.
11 mile lunch time TT on the fixie today...67 inch gear.
Great ride (28k 400m ascent) home at 5.45pm.
Tail wind and very quiet roads due to some over paid numpties on the box.
Wish I could ride at this pace regular. Just over 65mins, one of my best ever rides.
Pleased now. :-)
Ride number three on new bike (other than to work) and I quite liked the look of a recent sportive route from Dentdale. I opted for the shorter of the two routes which was just over 50 mile and 1150m of climbing. Discovered two things really 1) Cycling 50 hilly miles is hard work 2) the western Dales are absolutely stunning.
As a result (not being a hitherto regular at this lark) I am absolutely knackered but loved every minute:thumbup:

Three peaks cyclocross training for me involves carrying a baby up big hills - by september she should weigh as much as the bike :-)

Went out for a quikc dash along Hatterall Ridge this morning before work. First time out since last weeks 12 hour race... Weather has just been too atrocious. Muddy, but the sun was out and legs seemed to be ok, but HR got a bit high in places...
British Heart Foundation London to Brighton today. Obviously 'no good deed goes unpunished'. I only agreed to do it because a team at work wanted to boost the numbers and its for charity. I think they are still out there on the course somewhere! Rode the entire way on my own less the 26, 000 non cyclists who were also taking part - it was bedlam, bikes and bodies everywhere, congestion that cannot be imagined and then it cleared going over Ditchling for a fast few miles home. I say home but my team were nowhere near halfway by the time I finished (some uncompleted wicker work on one of their baskets I think) so had to make my way back as best as I could. NEVER AGAIN. Next year I go for the Sunday club run out and just send a cheque to the BHF to salve my conscience.
That was fun then :p
It is exactly why I don't do those kinds of rides... and just donate money to good causes from time to time.

I sat in bemusement watching poor sods pushing bikes uphill rendered twice their normal weight by the accumulation of crud, poking filthy fingers into submerged derailleurs in a vain hope of restoration of mechanical compliance and scooping huge handfuls of shite from tyres in order to get wheels turning again.
I cannot imagine what state everyone finished in. I remember getting up for a pee at 4am hearing the monsoon outside and realising that they were only just over halfway through!
I plan to apply for next years event. Anyone wanna join me? (teams of 4).:D

I was found in said deer park, riding around on my tod for 25 hrs and 30 odd minutes... I stopped a whole of 45 minutes in that time, 20 minute soup brake at midnight, pooring rain, 10 mintes 6 hours in for some hot porridge and same 18 hours in... A few minutes between laps so my pit bitch Jon could hose the drivetrain down... It was an utter mudfest. Most people gave up...
I think I may have come 3rd, but it was contested so now it is with the commissaires :(
I was wizzed away by my lovely pit bitch at the finish, while my future team mate and race partner sorted out the results discrepancy... I heard later my name was announced as third lady, but when I went to HQ to collect my prize was told it had gone to someone else :(
Ah well, come what may, I gave it my all... am now so tired and hungry I can hardly function... was it worth it? Yes! Not the most pleasant experience, true war of attrition, but it separated the boys from the girls so to speak!
I am extremely grateful to all my wonderful friends for helping me in all sorts of capacities! You cannot do it without help and pit crew :) I was a right narky bitch at the best of times :w00t:
Doubt I will do a 24 hr MTB race again though, unless in a team. 12 hours are more fun... and easier to manage... Mind, if I get 4th, I will have to be back next year and show them who should have been on that podium LOL
P.S. Wheeze, mixed team of 5? 4 blokes and a girl? :D
Can fully concur with Hann how bad it was.. I was in a team of four (7th or 8th in Vets but under review.. apparently the timing mats sunk under the mud and missed lots of laps!) and it was epic... solo race looked hell.. you're one tough cookie Hann! Really glad I opted for the single-speed.. I've never seen so many ripped rear mechs and terminal chain suck cases.. knees feel a tad sore today though.
I take my hat off to you both.....no, I take my hat, my hair (whats left of it), my scalp and my brain off to you....and especially Hann. We had our suspicions about you after Tour De Galles (saw "narky bitch" make a brief guest appearance in St Davids!!:D:wink:) but now it is confirmed. You are 100% certifiable dutch fruitcake. 24 hours? In that? I am now officially scared of you!:w00t::wink:
