This kind of proves what I was saying. These songs are deliberately ambiguous. In Norwegian wood, did he light a joint after he didn't get some, or did he set fire to the furniture? Or did he (as my dad insists) make a nice fire in the fire place!!
I actually quite like the ambiguity in many of the Beatles' songs. They were doing it to be interesting and not so they would be championed as civil rights libertarians. In some songs, ambiguity can add to the allure.
