Hello, Allan Greenwood just sent me a text saying: RACE CANCELLED as he cannot get out there to put the flags up and he asks if you could please SPREAD this information. Thank you I realise this is my first post, tomorrow was my first fell race, and Allan kindly sent me a map as I could not find the route online until 3 posts ago! Thank you Sarah
oh no ! I was really looking forward to it!
I'm very sorry. Up until about 10am this morning, everything was going great and we were all set for another cracking event. I was really looking forward to it esp, after having to cancel due to sheet ice across the car parks last year.
As usual, i had booked a half day off work (I use my holidays) for course flagging.
A sudden dump of snow over the next 2 hours brough chaos to the roads, Halifax was gridlocked. Snow soon turned to ice and I watched one car driving steadily and surely straight up the kerb and into a lamp post. 1-30pm and I was still struggling to get to the venue in order to start flagging, (usually a 20 min drive.)
My mate called me and said the schools were shutting and he wouldn't be able to make it as he needed to go pick his children up.
Now it was going to be a 3 hour job to mark the course alone. Not viable in daylight.
I turned the car around and headed home.
I'm sorry. I tried to get the race on but again, i was beaten by the weather.
Are my races jinxed ?!
LOADS OF PRIZES IN MY SPARE BEDROOM - PLEASE SUPPORT THE WHITE HOLME CIRCULAR RACE NEXT SUNDAY ? !!

Valiant effort Alan!!! See you next time or sooner....
thanks for trying Al,
who would want to be a race organiser at this time of year with all the weather problems.
oh well might have a beer or 3 then run over ilkley tommorow(at race speed of course)
Roads were getting stupid in Halifax. Buses not wanting to be out in the snow caused the schools to close early. Ours shut and then buses took an hour to get from town to siddal!! For what its worth, I'd totally back Allan for this decision, right decision and early enough for no unecessary plans!! and well played for even attempting to flag.
If anyone's desperate for an event today why not try the John O Goats at Lyme Park?

John o'Goats - Saturday 8th January. Lyme Park was inspected late on Friday afternoon and there is a small amount of snow, with a forecast for overnight rain.
THE EVENT IS ON
If we get last minute heavy snow we will do our best to let you know. Check here in the morning for any changes. (Friday 7.24 pm)
Due to popular request, I have decided to rearrange the Ovenden fell race.
It will now take place on Saturday 19th February at 11-30am
Full WATERPROOF Whole Body Cover MUST be carried - No Kit = No Run.
Please spread the word
{I would be grateful for any offers of help - especially with course marking}
