Re: Tonight's football thread
Watch the video footage.
Macarthy looked to see Rooney coming and changed his direction to block him, he also then at the last minute put his shoulder in. If you watch Rooney he tried to take some evasive action, a sort of side step and swerve move, and yes the elbow came up, but it wasn't a swinging elbow and half caused perhaps by him running at full tilt on a line that was open to him and then having to imbalance himself.
You may think a red, I would suggest a yellow at worst but I would also say that the cause was an illegal block by Macarthy - but of course some people are always ready to get stuck in to him.

I genuinely believe that the person who will lose out in the end his rooney himself though Ian. He will commit something a lot more serious, the trouble with rags is they think they are above the law, give this guy enough rope he will hang himself, he knows now he can get away with anything, or thinks he can?

Really - I would say if you look at his experiences with the tabloids, he has got less chance of getting away with anything than probably any other footballer in England.
His elbow was much lower on the richter scale than Gerrards on Welbeck that he got away with - there was much less furore over Gerrard.

Unfortunately not all players are saints like the blue half of manchester..http://www.tuxboard.com/video-tacle-de-jong-ben-arfa/
And this is an elbow by Gerrard on Brown...no ban either....was it that much different...

That'll be a great season then...
How the mighty have fallen...when I was a lad our season was beating Liverpool, because we had no chance of further success....
Anyway remind me, I'm losing count are we now at 20 or 21 years?

No talk of City's shame?
Danbert your lot are bringing the game into disrepute..big money..drugs..is nothing sacred....you've ruined the game....
TBF it sounds like its's going to be a decongestant or something. 1 month, 3 max I reckon. Should recieve a ban but shouldn't be too harsh, IMO.

Re: Tonight's football thread
Clattenberg, Clattenberg, Clattenberg. Who gives a bloody toss? Is this what football has come down to: slow-motion replays of fouls and overexcited pundits?
People seem to be more interested in catching out refs and making them look stupid than in the game itself ... Alan Green and his ilk have a lot to answer for.

Re: Tonight's football thread
A couple of cracking matches today, 10 goals with a few talking points thrown in. Most entertaining match of the two I thought though was Wolves and Spurs

You'll have to wait until next year though when The CLarets come back up.

Went on the Turf on saturday, got a couple of free tickets through Tickets for Troops.
Thought they played some quality footy in the first half, but they were trying to walk it in all the time. Deffo need to be more ruthless and have a pop more often. Good 3 points for em anyways!

Re: Tonight's football thread
MASSIVE Attendance for City tonight - 27,000.
Yes, it was a 6pm kick off but surely if (as they claim) that Mancunians are cITY fans, they could have filled more than that for a Europa last 16 game?
Very poor.

I only heard this on t'radio on way back from the Dales - apparently the ref gave a free kick for a foul outside the box but Linesman over-ruled him and gave a penalty - when did that rule come in that linesman has final say?!!

Yup...thats the linesman who was on opposite side of pitch when the ref was about 8 - 10 yards away!!
He didn't even put his flag up until the Liverpool players started whinging!! Even the TV pundits agreed with me!!
