That is actually a lovely quote but some of my mistakes in the mountains have been too scary.

I reckon if I eat more food, wear warmer clothing and don’t sink chest deep in a bog just before getting caught in a downpour of hailstones I should be alright.:o
Seriously though, I have definitely learnt from that mistake;)

Now that Lawrence edge is out of bounds, I think I'll make use of the Glossopdale Harrier's closely guarded secret short cut, the Bleaklow water pipe tunnel. This was built soon after the railway was completed (around 1850) to provide extra water for steam engines working up the Woodhead pass. Although it's VERY direct, running from close to the embankment just west of Wildboar clough to a culvert on the Snake road, it's quite a squeeze as there's a rusty old 20 inch water pipe that has leaked a lot and caused a couple of cave-ins. A headtorch and tolerance of small spaces is absolutely essential! As it follows access land all the way, I don't think there's anything in the rules that prevent its use. I've put a picture in my album of the Woodhead entrance as it was in 2008; it's currently quite obscured by bushes, but not too hard to find

I have been down the new section through the wood. Personally I thought that after the first bit
it was not so bad. In fact there is quite a few sections where running through the soft pine
needles is very nice underfoot.
When I got to the bridge at 108 907 I was not sure where to go. I followed the stream up towards
Ashop Clough to find a place to ford the stream then clambered up to the highlevel footpath on Rough Bank
to continue on down woodlands valley.
Is this the right thing to do as the footpath on the otherside of the bridge seem to just go to the road?

It does go to the road, but, instead of passing through the stile after which it definitely heads left, you can stick on the river bank where you'll find a reasonable trod which will take you right down to the next bridge - which you do cross. At one point there are a few metres of boulder-hopping, but, after that the trod improves. The alternative is a crossing of the Ashop.

Thanks for that, crossing the Ashop was a bit tricky with the greasy/icy rocks.

there will be members of the rescue team at the crossing, although I doubt you'll even get a stud wet at the moment.
yes cross the small foot bridge and after a few meters bare left. there is a trod that takes you upto a nice path on the otherside, this is quicker than the LH bank
