Heptonstall festival

Cracking race!

Tougher than i expected but loved the high speed descents into Midgehole. The final climb looked like someone had stampeded cattle down it; hope there's no comeback about it.

I'm rubbish at short races like this, i need a good 20-30 minutes to get everything working properly and i lose places on the climbs as a result. I'm always telling our juniors to do more warm up, perhaps i should practice what i preach!

Not sure about the quality of the marshalling though; what a bunch of clowns they were;)

Same here Andy! I think young legs are better suited to short blasts (I prefer epic 10-20 milers). That said its all about preparation - more hill reps and warming up (oh...and not staying out til 1am the night before).That last climb was much muddier than normal (so much rain!) was a bit worried someone might take a fall on the way down - hopefully next year it will be a bit firmer.

We are already planning next year's Festival race; if we can get 93 to run with only a 4 week lead from planning we should do well in 2012 (hope a local club puts it in club champs/grand prix). We really enjoyed the fell-festival combo all the entry fees/beer/parking money went to the festival - the music etc were fantastic, the runners and their families helped boost the crowd.

Next race in Heptonstall is the 15 miler in March 2012 (wonder if CLEM might consider it as a club champs race???)

I have made a complaint to the festival organiser
In fairness he had a few pints and was nt that coherent :-)
Thought he did a great job with the acts that turn up - loved the punk band at the end they were mental! Who were they????

I suggested it for this year but to no avail.

Clayton used to do a multi race club championship; 5XC, 5 Road, 5 Fell, best three to count. For some reason they decided to ditch this format for 2011 and move to just three club-only races.

I honestly don't know why, i much preferred the old format but i imagine it was discussed at length before the decision was made so there must have been good reason. If they decide to revert to the multi race format then I'll suggest Heptonstall.

Liberators - the bass player is Cayn who works the bar at the Fox and Goose.

Holme Moss is next Sunday Trig if you fancy it - it falls into you 10-20 mile epic category (16 miles I think, category A). Congratulations again on a great race on Saturday. Heptonstall does a very good race/festival day out!!!

Either that or Kentmere - congratulations on your time on Saturday - thought I had you at the Blue Pig - but the last climb felt 10 times harder than normal - you left me standing!

Cheers Trig. I thought you had me at the Blue Pig too. I found the last few hundred yards of 'up' across the final fields a real killer before the final down hill gallop (more of a stumble!) to the finish line. I think the route was spot on though - really enjoyed it.

Heard a few well known Calder Valley stars completely missed the (well flagged) right hand turn on the last ascent from Blue Pig/ They ended up wading through nettles and clmbing over walls to get to Lee Road - I will protect their identity for now as believe there may be some super injunction in place - look out on twitter or evidence of multiple stings and abraison to lower leg.....
