Another wet and windy headtorcher last night, we were rewarded with the best view of Kendal (ie. in the dark so you can't see what a shithole it is)
Well that was a bit desperate, well ready for our lasses sausage casserole when I got home:)
Lovely night out tonight with Wednesday night gang
SROC's Street O event round the historic city of Lancaster for me, we even found some mud
great warts run with Dark Peak last night. 24 hardy souls under a starlit night.
the group split in to two about 2/3 of the way round whist they slunk of to the pub we pushed on for a nother big climb, shorter than usual as a number are doing the HPM tomorrow.
but just under 6 miles but 1700 ft of climbing.
Plenty of last minute HPM reccies on Winn hill, loose Hill and up from Cut throat bridge...was it you?
Pah! All this headtorch running with other people. You lot are so.... flipping social! And pints afterwards? Gee whiz, how the other half live.
We're obviously made of sterner stuff in Settle - me and Hazzer (a border collie and therefore not a person) have probably done something like 90 headtorch runs in the hills above Settle thus far this winter. And we don't bother with people (other than a handful of guest appearances from Hester). In the week, headtorch running is running :)
That said I ran 13 miles from Shipley to Leeds along the canal toepath this morning, London Marathon training
Classic 'torcher this evening. Good to see a mix of old friends and new faces out
Pleasant walk for me - shame the beer was only 4%
I know better places....
13 dark peakers went over Kinder from Blackden to the bottom of Golden Clough and direct up to Ringing Roger. Why would any one do that after 19 miles of racing????
Back via the trig.
Our beer was excellent in the Ladybower ;)
Just under 2 hours, 5 miles, 2000ft and that nasty climb up to Ringing Roger!
A great evening with friendly folk, and good conversation in the Ladybower Inn afterwards.

SROC's Street O event at Blackburn tonight, no mud but plenty of hills
Great run tonight under a clear and starry sky! 10 Dark Peakers and the faint glow of IDP in the distance on one of his legendary night nav courses.
Starting from the A628 we headed along to Lady Cross then to the cairn around Round Hill. From there over to Barrow Stones via Barrow Clough. Bearings were taken but the moonlight guided us fine.
To a sheepfold (large enough for 3 sheep) (and it wasn't on my map..) at Swains Greave and some giant groughs to Swains head. Ac couple of white hares escaped the studs.
We handrailed Far Small Clough to the Trans Pennine Trail back to the road.
Refreshments were then consumed in the Dog and Partridge.
The End.
We turned out all the lights at the sheepfold and spent a few mins stargazing and naming stars.. Magic!
The map I had tonight had the markings from the club nav course last year, Ladys Cross at the start. 1894 stone would have been good tonight.
The last of the winters SROC Street O events at Preston tonight with a mass start for a change. It's always good to be reminded what a shithole Preston is
Nice trip with 20 dark peakers last night taking in the secret pack horse bridge nr Howden and the Salt cellar
Aye t'was a lovely evening for a run again Ian!
The climb up from the Packhorse bridge was just how I remembered it..ish!
At one point I turned around and the sight of 15 or so torches scattered and snaking across the moorland was magical.
I nearly tripped several times looking up at the magnificent sky last night too!
6 miles and 1500ft approx.
Ran around caldervalley round last night with mate, good clear night, a little breezy approaching stoodley pike, but great night out.
The Pack Horse Bridge. Somewhere in the Dark Dark Peak..!

Modeled by our very own IDP!
First club run without a head torch last night.
One of my favourite nights of the year: the evening we sort our list of pubs for Wednesday night socials for the upcoming "summer season". Some controversy as ever, but one or two great new inclusions. Oh, we went for a run before too; 5.65 miles I'm told. Splendid it was too
Yes, it's our final head torcher for bar league points tomorrow night. This winter there's been no points for running ( we don't want to be guilty of encouraging people to endanger themselves ) just points for turning up at the pub, later on.
Had a great run out tonight! 27 Dark Peakers took to the hills around Alport Castleski. I gt a cheeky hour in up and down Kinder before the club run too..
Idp was missed tonight, on what was the last offial headtorch run. Whiskey and sweets were handed out generously
got home at 6.00 pm after being on the hill for 7 hours, I'd been teaching/assessing GCSE Orienteering/navigation. I'd been blown about, snowed on, hailed on, rained on, sleeted on and as you can imagine was quite tired. Could just about of made it but was worn out....same again today, weather starting better though.
hope you didn't get lost last night with out me...;)
Should finish earlier tonight so might run round the first Summer series race in the dark for some practice...
Had a very fun run out with the PFR crew last night. Everyone was standing around the fire in the Royal after we go back to the pub as the wind had been so cold at Big Stone.
Much better than watching TV
