Hooooraaaa We are on our way out :p
What the actual ****
I assume we're discussing the snap election here. It makes sense to me. Conservatives well ahead in the polls; Labour politically out where the buses don't run. Potential for large swings based on outcomes of Brexit negotiations.
Why not nail things down for another 5 years. Also, Mrs May wants to minimise the effect of people like Nicola Sturgeon making political gain out of "you don't have a proper mandate".
We clearly need a separate thread.
Oh I get all that. It's More the tirade of bllx I'll see if I venture onto Facebook that dismays me.
I'm getting confused now, is it Brexit or Breggzit?
Remoaners with teeth
For any FT subscribers there's an article about the divorce bill doing the rounds.
Nope, this one https://www.ft.com/content/a0e25381-...2-3acf9aeba52a
The divorce bill is quite something. I'd like to see a copy :)
If you bear in mind during the campaign and aftermath, the constant claim that the £350m was misleading, I now tend to agree.
If there is any legitimacy in the`Euro 100 Billion amount, then we have been "under-charged" by the EU for a number of years.
Perhaps it should have said £500 Million a week on that bus?
Will it or will it not happen on March 29th?
With the wastes of space we have in place of MPs? hardly likely. The one chance is they are so busy voting against everything, they will be too busy arguing to notice they already left.
My view is they will waste a fortune extending, and still end up leaving without a deal. It seems to me there are only two choices now. Leave no deal or Rescind A50 ( not extend it) and veto everything. Let them come to us for a deal.
Prosperity for UK is coming 👍
Not long now till we break the shackles.
Back to being British and Proud 👍
It will be an interesting year Trevor
Happy Brexit Day everyone.

Here's a nice song to celebrate with.

A long time coming but well worth it.

Sitting here in the Millennium stadium surrounded by Italian brothers. No difference in the love and mutual respect. Forza Italia! As long as Wales win!!😂
Wonder if the UK will follow sensible EU laws like this. Or will it be a case of:
"if it is an EU law then by default it is bad".

Sensible? It is a ridiculous intrusion way beyond the remit of the EU, which now wants to interfere in every corner of life.
At at time it should be taking subsidiarity seriously, and descoping its remit to a budget, and of limiting to only those activities essential to do at multiple country level it is interfering even more.
So you can have either cheap, or you can have repairable, that is a customer choice.
The manufacturing processes that make cheap also make things not economically repairable.
If products last forever, companies all go bust.
So the long term economics case is also dire...
The EU is world class at one thing only. Wasting money.
This is a fundamental flaw in the economic system: the system is set up to rely on the generation of waste, and yet the build-up of waste is one of the biggest environmental problems faced by the world today.

As someone said, anybody who thinks that growth can continue indefinitely on a finite planet is either an idiot or an economist.
So I support the EU in their rather small efforts to alleviate the problem. Things need to change.
How many phones have I dumped becasue of failing batteries? It is just not worth the cost of installing a new one, which would have be done by an unauthorised shop anyway.
So do you advocate population control? Because making a few gadgets that have a longer life isn't going to have any effect.

They do need to change. Especially with recycling planning. The point about PC's and old phones is very valid. Growth will still be possible and actually enhanced if recycling incentivisation is given to both producers and consumers of goods. Growth will occur not only by producers continually introducing new and better versions of their products but also in the recycling business that is generated. Savvy manufacturers will work to own both ends of the process.
Take cars.
McDonnell was on today saying we should be paying people to scrap perfectly good cars and give them cheap loans to but new electric ones.
That assumes electric is the future.
It's bonkers.
Then he said he was against the road programme announced. Does he think these electric cars will fly from A to B?
My Mazda 3 was a green machine back in Sept 2016. I pay £0 annual road tax. Same car now is seen as bad and has higher road tax.
Governments have to be more careful. They shouldn't get involved in backing some technologies to the degree they are doing.
I just scrapped my pefectly good HTC M9 a couple of weeks ago, becaue the battery would barely last a day. As a challange, I had a go at replacing the battery myself (after buying a new phone) but gave up. I would not have to recycle the electrical device if I don't scrap it.
My old HTC (a phone I loved and did not want to replace) gives stirling service in the garage as a picture store for my motorcycle renovation projects and as a live video feed for my engine fibre optic scope. I was able to re purpose it to do jobs where battery longevity is not an issue.
One of the reasons Brexiteers wanted out of the European union was to end freedom of movement. Yet within the Union now, some member states are banning freedom of movement. Austria has closed the door to Italians, Spain is in lockdown etc. Germany has banned the export of face masks so they have enough for themselves.
Not very inclusive this European Union. All turning nationalistic in a crisis with the heads of the Bureaucracy strangely quiet. I wonder what Pat Barry has to say about that.
They aren't talking about it because their evading the reality of their position.
We constantly hear politicians and experts telling us we need migration in the West because we aren't having enough kids.
Well just maybe, we should allow the population to fall naturally and reduce the pressure on resources.
