Mmmm just done a 5k timed hilly loop with my loved one.
Just over 15mins which is her best.

Nice quick effort.
No problem - hope you are enjoying it.
Got up early this morning so went the long way to work. Nearly all off-road on the CX bike. Took the tough side of the canal as it's so dry there's not much to slow you down at the moment. (Apart from the geese which are vicious at the moment - lots of goslings around to protect!)
Home the quick route in time for the footy.
May commute tomorrow but then taking it easy for Velothon Wales on Sunday.140km taking in the Tumble and Caerphilly mountain - looking forward to it immensely.
1 hour 23 minutes at a fairly brisk pace, on roads to the east of Loughborough. The B676 coming back from Six Hills is always good for a burn-up; so I was disappointed at Burton-on-the-Wolds when the vehicle-activated sign thanked me for going a measly 21mph. My ambition is to get one of these signs to tell me to slow down. Fat chance!
Velothon Wales. Quite pleased with 5.45 given the weather - 33 degrees at times and not a cloud in the sky. The Tumble was tough but Caerphilly mountain harder still especially with 120km in the legs.
Took it easy today after last week's exertions with a mostly off-road MTB session. 25km everywhere very dry and dusty with a lot of loose gravel and rock about. Some paths almost turned to sand so hard going at times.
Managed Lancaster to Kents Bank (just past Grange-over-Sands) return, yesterday on the old 531 'crosser on 35 mm tyres; in the company of a 78 years-old on his 531 tourer. 2.35 out, 2.30 home. 66 miles all told.
Not fast, but v. hot and we are both asthmatic; so reasonably chuffed.
50km this morning playing dodge the shower. Concentrating on short, sharp hills and finished with a PR up my favourite local climb so well chuffed.
Just a gentle 6k around the town and on the promenade.
Nice sea breeze but still 33° in the shade.
I could get used to this.
Jogging, swimming and cycling all under blue skies and hot sunshine.
Last Tuesday (31st July) saw 15 members of CTC Lancaster & South Lakes cover 100 miles on a large Figure-of-8 around the Fylde flatlands, albeit a tough headwind from Cleveleys to Lytham going S down the prom.
Well done WD and your group.
Roll on retirement for me. Sounds like a good time in your life.
I have been retired over 3 years now and it has been the best 3 years of my life by far, made me realise what a waste of life work is and to think I used to grab all the overtime I could get basically just to feed the boss and taxman.
Retirement best job I ever had skint but happy sums it up for me:cool:
2 retro bikes bikes for me.
(1) circa 1990 Trek single track mountain bike with a nice double butted steel frame, weighs in @ around 26.5kg complete with twist grip shifters all original except saddle see below (although I still have the original saddle).
(2) 1987 Raleigh triathlon, Reynolds 531 frame and forks, Full Shimano 105 groupset including headset, hubs and pedals, SR bars, stem and fluted seatpost in fact all original except for the white bar tape and the saddle which I replaced with a Brooks professional saddle when I purchased the bike I switch the saddle between the bikes depending on which bike I choose to ride.
Both bikes still in regular use
Sounds good to me John.
Just been down to the promenade and watch the boat trips leaving.
5k round trip zero meters climb ha ha ha feels strange with no ups and downs.
Another 6k potter. Town hall thermometer said 36° at 10.30 local time.
Very little breeze but blue sea and sky.
Just beautiful.
Exercise is so nice when you don't have to work 😀
Aye up Wharfy good to have you back.
And there was me thinking that JohnK was actually lugging 26.5kg of bike up those Cumbrian hills. Silly old me, you can tell that I've never owned a mountain bike.
"All original . . ." ! How do you get components to last that long on a bike in regular use? The only original things on my 1984 Hetchins tourer are the frame (obviously) and the rear carrier.
6k on the mountain bike around local lanes exploring.
Just getting back in to it slowly.
Didn`t say that the components I can no longer replace with the original parts are not worn but they still function and obviously consumables such as chains brake pads etc are not original, but then I am not still road time trialling or doing eyeballs out Mountain bike descents probably because my all original body is more worn than the mechanical contrivances I choose to propel.
Now what ebike do I fancy
Aye all good things come to an end.
22° and sunny round the Temple Newsome area of Leeds.
But this weeks positive is I weight 5lb than the day i travelled.
Rather grey and uninspiring in the shire this morning. A strong swirling breeze that always seemed to manifest itself as a headwind no matter which direction I was going. Did a hard 55km, trying to keep the speed high on the flats and easier drags. Struggled on the hills but have upped the running ascent of late so no real surprise there. Thankfully still in short sleeved jersey - probably the best year I can remember for cycling weather.
After my couple of weeks off with a sore rib I'm back.
Off road to temple newsam (big stately home near Leeds) round the 5k park run route and back home.
My goal is to cycling to park run, compete and cycle home.
No where near yet but I have a goal😁
Packed it in today, tried to get to The Craven Arms, but the weather was foul. Turned around and went shopping instead.
Aye. A mate from Keighley said hail, rain and strong winds.
Keep up the efforts Luke.
Exercise helps me a lot.
Knackered foot (hole in sole....dont ask!) meant no racing for me on BHM so got out the Scott, dusted the spiders off and went out for a 2 hour bimble around the beautiful monmouthshire lanes. Must do this more often!
50 mile loop out to Bewdley taking in the 3 toughest hills on my local patch - St Kenhelm's, Sheepwalks and Winwood Heath. Took it easy as legs still not back to 100% after the LDMT and had a hard week at work.
Started off quite cool and autumnal but had some late summer sun on my back for the last hour and started to overheat.
Always great to be out on the bike this time of year - hoping to get some long rides in before the winter season kicks in.
Crazy weather at the moment.
Morning commute in insulated gloves, thermal base layer, ls jersey, windproof and leg warmers.
Overheated on the way home in shorts, just the jersey and mits.
Planning on doing the Bournville Hilly Classic in a few weeks so went on a tour of the Lickey and Wast Hills to the south of Birmingham. Not an area I know too well but enjoyed exploring new roads though not sure if lives up to the billing of being similar to Liege Bastogne Liege!
Clocked up about 1000m ascent in 60km. Lovely sunny morning though very chilly first thing.

Pete, that map looks a tad 'contorted'? I hope that they have excellent signage, you could 'meet yourself coming back'.Our group had a good 'hill-less' 68 miler in on Thursday:- Lancaster, University, Galgate, Conder Green, Pilling, Gt Eccleston (coffee), Thistleton, Weeton, Gt Plumpton, Westby, Lytham (lunch) then straight up the coast via Blackpool Promenade, Fleetwood, ferry across Wyre estuary, Knott End, Pilling Lane, Pilling, Cockerham & Lancaster. The W wind made up for the lack of hills.
Sounds good - I rarely get the time for a 68 miler mores the pity - must try and get some longer rides in before the winter sets in.
Had the same thought myself about the signage. Although convoluted in order to maximise the hills, it's basically an out and back route that only uses one or two longer flat sections in both directions. There are a lot of shared junctions though so presumably the signs will be moved after the last rider has gone through on the outbound section. GPS was nightmare to follow this morning as you don't know which breadcrumb to follow at times!
Today's non-bike ride was enforced by dental surgery this week meaning no running or cycling for a few days. Anyway, made good use of my time by giving the commuter (Genesis Croix de Fer) a deep clean and winter set up. Early morning rides are now needing full lights and wetter weather now will be more prevalent so the mudguards have gone on too. I usually find this hard as I know the onset of winter is therefore only around the corner - not usually a great time for me. However, this year I have to admit to feeling more positive than the last few. Perhaps the magnificent summer has had a lasting effect and I'm looking forward to the next few weeks activities at least: 1 tough sportive, 2 fell races and 3 trail races fill the next 8 weekends. I'm going into the dark side of the calendar fighting!
Are you doing any of the Shropshire Winter Series, Pete.....?
Planning on doing the Wrekin Wrecker, Cardington Cracker and Long Mynd Valleys. Carding mill canter is a possibility too. I presume you will be doing the entire series!
Definitely doing Breidden next week, and the Wrekin Wrecker. Will miss Cardington as doing the Cheviot Goat. Then I'll try and do the remainder of the races, with the exception of Wrekin in March.
Fantastic 50 mile ride today which included the very autumnal Elan Valley Dams. BBC Countryfile Ramble taking place from the Welsh Water, even though the Brummies drink it, Visitor Centre but no sign of Kate or Ellie so I didn't hang around.
What I did see was plenty of Red Kites, 3 Buzzards, 2 Jays and the highlight was a magnificently large Red Fox with a splendid brush. He jumped out of the bracken right in front of me causing me to take evasive action. I have not seen a fox like this for years, as the ones I usually see are the grey/brown types that live a little closer to civilisation and survive on pizzas, kebabs and suchlike!
Bournville Classic completed today. A tour of the Wast, Waseley, Lickey and Clent Hills to the south of Birmingham. 109km with 1900m ascent starting and finishing at the Cadbury factory. Probably the toughest ride I've done all year- nowhere flat and although no major long hills, lots of short steep, leg sapping stuff. 16 categorised climbs and plenty of technical riding. Have just polished off the biggest bacon sarnie you have ever seen which I have been looking forward to since about 50km in!
A gentle 40 minute potter around a coastal paths and back via the harbour.
Turkey is a lovely place for a quiet getaway and some late sunshine.
28° at 11.45am NICE🏖👍
