S**t happens!
Baaarby feeling fed up in Leek
Shamed by Al Fowler into going out!! :p One hour's run out up on Addingham Moorside and the SE end of Ilkley Moor. Blustery as hell, intermittent hail showers and only a few Swaledales, Lapwings and Curlews for company i.e just the ticket. Cheers Al!:D
Flying the kite... It's a good core/upper body work out. I'll try not to get dragged up the beach.
8 miles around Carsington Reservoir this morning. About 700ft of undulating up and downs. The up bits were made harder by having to push my 8yr old mountain biker mate up them!!
Ran the first of the "Silkstone Shuffle" series. 4 1/2 mile blast on trails and a couple of fields to cross. Forgot to set my watch so I guess it took me *about* 31mins?
Nice to meet Slippery Stones before he heads oop north and Mick from Denby Dale. Oh, and a few DPers - Steve and Nick.
Crowden Loop tomorrow early. :) And possibly first Trunce on Monday. :p
First run (sort of- walked most of the climbs) for 2 weeks- 10miles and 3700ft around bowland fells. Had a virus for a few days but end up with a post viral infection of throat and sinuses. Ok today just took it slow and steady but throw in 5 climbs. Started at fell foot across fields to saddle end farm up to new gate on saddle fell down to shooting track up quad track to col (reverse of fiensdale race section) drop down to fosters wood and steep climb next to wall/fence and across to true summit of fairsnape down to sheepfold and another climb to paddys pole, steep descent of fairsnape and down to upper fairsnape farm, across fields and final climb up to top of parlick (going up descent route bleasdale race) and final steep descent down parlick back to car. Good morning work out:D
Ashkam village to High Street and back. About 20 miles according to my string-o-meter. 4 hours 7 minutes and the last 2 miles before the village were hell - grazing sheep overtaking me - but at least I made it back to the car without resorting to fellwalking!
Nothing really steep, just a long ascending ridge - more of a bog trudge really. Snow on the fell from High Raise up to the Street. Turned at the Street to return home only to find a stiff head wind and flurries of sleet - lovely! Still good for a ruddy complexion perhaps.
First longish run since September and the start of ITB syndrome. Got back to running from New Year.
5-6 miles up Bleaklow
Snake Pass-Pennine Way-Bleaklow Head-Wain Stones-Hern Stones-Bomber Wreckage-Higher Shelf Trig-Pennine Way
Nice bright sunny morning without a cloud in sight :D
21.64 road run ( goggle earth) need to get out of the training comfort zone , 3 peaks just 'round the corner.
4 mile this morning. Today's run had to be cut short as was feeling unwell.
20k over great hill, winter hill etc - in glorious sunshine. Not fast and still very wet underfoot but wonderful to be out. It might set me up for a week in work
14 miles Saturday at bowland starting at fell foot. parlic, to paddy's pole, drop down to holme farm, up to fiensdale head, drop down to langdale castle ruin. up to saddle fell, back up to pole then parlic and fell foot. Nice run, got batttered by some hale.
Hilly road run after skiing yesterday. about 6 miles, down though some woods until i picked up a steep windy road something akin to alp duez for 4 miles before a steep road descent back to village.
will repeat tommorrow
Went to the physio yesturday and ive not to go back for three weeks.
Ive been set with the task of actually going running!
Nothing fun and exciting but ive been given a mini programme to see if he can piece together any relationships between why things go wrong/pain as and when.
Ive been told to run every 3 days. Run for 2 minutes, walk for 2 minutes and do this for 20 minutes.
He's told me its going to hurt but ive got to write it all down and keep doing my rehab exercises.
Ive been told to stay on the pavements and stick at a slow and steady pace. :(
Knees are abit sore from being battered at the physios yesturday but im guna go for it.
Wish me luck, im going to give it a try.
Second that Al. Fingers crossed!
Good stuff, Al. Don't get carried away and do tooo much.
Cheers.
Well i set off and my inside ligaments started killing straight away and I was about to throw myself in front of the bus that was coming towards me.....then i got a vicious pain in my left ITB by the knee but it only lasted a split second.
After than my knees sort of calmed down abit and got used to it, it hurt all the way round but nothing too major….and my god it was boring running so slow and only being able to run for 2 minutes haha.
Was a perfect night and nobody was about so i had the streets to myself.
Knees where aching a tad this morning but nothing like what i expected - maybe tomorrow it will hit me?
Was good to get out even though i can’t really call it running, more like plodding. Found it hard to be able to stay at a such slow speed, had to keep reminding myself to slow down.
I guess i can call it progress though, but im not going to be back properly running for a good few months yet but it gave me some hope at least.:)
I'd have stopped there if I were you Al. First step should be short distance, pain free.
A warm run up the Dales from Ingleton to the top of Masongill Lane (haven't been there for about 20 years when we used to park up to visit Marble steps and Ireby cavern), onto the ridge of Gragareth, to the Cairn, on the ridge for a bit and then down the flank to Yordas and up to the ridge of Whernside and then down to Twistleton Scar, Beezley farm and waterfalls trail back to Ingleton. Cut it shorter than I intended by around 4 or 5 miles due to an achilles niggle which I am taking to the physios at 5pm. Just over 13 miles and around 2,700' of ascent with hardly a soul to be seen.
4 miles yesterday in the dark down the TPT with a bit of the Trunce thrown in - Todat, about 7.5 miles in lovely weather from Winscar Res, past Dead Edge trig (where else would you find me ;)) and back via Snailsden trig. Nobody to be seen once out of sight of Winscar - not that that's unusual - very rarely see anyone else in that part of the Dark Peak.
12*400s in 80secs........lactic heaven.
7.5 miles in the sunshine at around 5pm. Felt like I was running absolutely rubbish, but the watch said otherwise. Roll on summer and some midweek racing. :)
An hour plus on Chevin & Danefield - great to be out on terrain midweek again. Felt good on both the steep climbs and the (not so steep) descents.
7/8 miles off raod with club last night - got beasted and as part of current injury back went in final third, very sore small of back and shooting pains down both buttocks.
Lots of stretching and 20miles steady bike ride spinning small ring tonight. slowly starting to feel like a cyclist again.
Just over an hour with club tonight off-road around Farnhill area. Brilliant to be out in t-shirt and shorts in the light :) Felt surprisingly good after last night's race too
Warm up consisted of core strength exercises- 201 sit-ups; 50 press-ups; 2x20 arm curls; followed by a 5 miler over the fells from front door to Hardberry trig point, down to Red Grooves House and back home again, 46 mins. Lovely evening on the fells, just me and the curlews.
Last night: couldn't get to the 'warts run at Strines so did my own: from Langsett over to Cut Gate and then down to Howden. A couple of hill reps and then home. Perfect evening, no other bug*er out, magic. Just shy of 2 hours.
Followed by a take-out curry from the Flouch. Bliss. :)
12*400s again, 1.17 average and shorter rest than last time.
2:06:55hr around Featherbed Moss/Lads Leap/Wilderness & Wimberry areas...Beautiful out there. Set off for a 30 min jaunt as Pendle tomorrow and got carried away
