For one if it's very windy you're not likely to hear your phone ring, and for two I'd have to get my map and compass out to make sure I knew where I was for sure. Or what if you had to ask someone running close to you, would that be OK?
Where did you heat that???
You have already given your mob number as it was on the entry form, if you are running with a different phone you may be asked to confirm your new number.
I cannot believe that Andy or any other member of the team will have time although I can just imagine it, half way up Brown Knoll, Mr Jebb I'm just calling to check you have your phone on thank you.....ah hello Mr Bailey I'm just calling to check you have your phone on thank you.... :D
I'll ask Andy to confirm this but Fudge find out who told this and drop him from a large height in to a big bog.

Re: Edale Skyline 30th March 2
I had a very pleasant trip round the second half of the route early this morning. Ground very firm (frozen) around Brown Knoll. Someone had been out on touring skis - must have been early yesterday when there was a bit more snow about.
The section between Grindslow Knoll and Ringing Roger was very icy in places, so if conditions are similar on Sunday there could be a strong case for putting in an additional checkpoint at the junction of Grindsbrook Clough and Golden Clough. Oh, hang on, no mobile phone reception there so that wouldn't work, in fact maybe there should be an additional checkpoint at the top of Grindsbrook Clough to ensure no-one is out of contact during the race.

It's because the race is being televised and they're having London Marathon style interviews like they they have with the 'celebrities'. Julia Bradbury is commentating from Jacobs Ladder....
Is Jacobs Ladder on the course or am I lost already....

Re: Edale Skyline 30th March 2
The Entry list has now been posted by name.
-
Re: Edale Skyline 30th March 2
I was beginning to get a complex, having been the only Fell Pony at the Half Tour of Pendle but this time Manhar is also running..... unless of course he now changes his mind, knowing that I'm running :(
-
Re: Edale Skyline 30th March 2
Well, although I seem to be the only one at the minute, I'm getting all excited about Edale now. I just have to remember that the race is on a Sunday rather than a Saturday  and of course remember my mobile.
Two things to remember on the same day is pushing things to the limit mind!
The latest BBC weather forecast for the Hope Valley is a good one too - sunshine and showers, 10 mph wind from the west and a maximum temperature of 9 C.
See you all Sunday....... when you finally catch up with me at the finish of course
-
Re: Edale Skyline 30th March 2
Before anyone has a go.....I know, I know, I've left it very late but...........
What's the situation re entries now? I noticed the list only has 376 people whereas someone quoted 500 entries at some point on this thread.
Does that mean there are any places left? Have all the original reserve people got places? Am I too late to have any chance of an entry?
In my defence, I expected to be too tired after doing the Manx last weekend and didn't want to take an entry and then not turn up, but I feel ok and would love to be able to do the Skyline.
-
Re: Edale Skyline 30th March 2
The entry limit was 350 but the organiser has allowed those on the waiting list to run.
-
Re: Edale Skyline 30th March 2
Oh ok, thanks Swoop. Looks like no chance then:( Ah well, my own fault, should've known I'd be ok after the Manx with all this training I've been doing.
Still, as I say, would rather not get an entry than get one and then not be able to run thereby denying someone else a place.

It's not just you Stolly, down here in the deep south weather forecasts are being checked, kit got together and travel plans finalised...I've even acquired a mobile!

Re: Edale Skyline 30th March 2
And plenty of mist, cloud and clag, I hope. You can't beat a good atmosphere when you're traversing the rim of the Plateau. (And I don't mean that revolting Scottish bagpipe music, either!)
I note that the local teams were out practicing their art (for real) last Tuesday night, and, would you believe it, with the aid of the missing party's mobile phone too! Mind you, it took Faithful Fido to actually find the group in the Woolpacks.
But of course any runner who knows his way around wouldn't be going through the woolpacks, would he??

Re: Edale Skyline 30th March 2
Swoop - what's wrong with you? I fully expected you to be out somewhere on the Kinder plateau, not sat in front of a PC on a fine day like today! :p
All the best for the race - make sure you get past Man Nick this time!

Taking it easy now until Sunday Jan. Was up on Kinder on Tuesday but got caught in a snow storm and had to shelter at Edale Rocks while I put extra clothing on and changed my gloves.
Luckily I had my compass with me and was able to find my way down.
I'm not confident of making the cut-off. I'm hoping for good weather and no snow or ice on the tops!

If theres only two Fell ponies there it'll be easy to spot you, ST make your self known at the Kit Check.
If anyone is going but Not racing and would like to help out then AndyJ still has a few spots free.

Re: Edale Skyline 30th March 2

I had a jog around the course on Tuesday, and I certainly didn't go through the Woolpacks.
A clubmate says he's going to stand at Pym Chair & offer to show people the way for £2 - I think I'll mug him when I get there!

That's a leetle bit naughty Mr B - you know as well as I do that when the munchkins flagged the route to the right of the Pagoda, the Pym Chair route stopped being the quickest.

I ran the 'route' the other day and there's virtualy a trod/path the whole way through/round/over/under (Delete as Ness) the area.
The place to keep your eye on the map if the clag is down is Brown Knoll.
Any one decided on the Down and Up yet from GK to RR ,I'm going round

Re: Edale Skyline 30th March 2
I'm a round man as well IanDP. See you Sunday.
The DarkPeak website is reminding everyone that waterproofs in the kit check will mean waterproof ie no Pertex and tracksters.
Hope everyone is prepared for a soaking...
-
Re: Edale Skyline 30th March 2
Opted not to do this, going to do a Welsh Championship Counter down in the Brecons instead, only a short 3 miler or so, but reckon doing Edale with a cold will wipe me out for next weekend in Ireland.
