after a week training in the lakes managed to sprain my ankle running on the road at home! thats just sods law!
While running in leather soled shoes on station platform a couple of weeks ago, I managed to sprain/bruise my left big toe, so that when I push off on it (walking or running) I get pain through to the ball of my foot...it eased and disappeared...only to reappear after having to run for another train on Monday this week...Grrrrrr
Not at all happy...anybody any thoughts? Rest is one..painkillers/anti-inflammatories or...??
Thanks
Barty
Tore gastrocnemius junction last night when doing a warm up. Out of the AW and Downfall this weekend :(
A gentle stroll to Pitsea might be the thing.
I've got a funny knee today - felt a bit sore when I got back from the club run last night. Ice & elevation last night - still not right today - hope I can nurse it round the 5 mile race tonight!
Slight pull of muscle behind left knee (bottom of hamstring/top of calf) meant had to shorten last night's session on Chevin - ok on flat and downhill but not good uphill:(
I'm in a similar position - managed to knacker my calf muscle at Christmas and I'm still very on/off at the moment as uphill running kills it. Strangely, uphill walking is fine - just spent today down in the Purbeck Hills and it was fine.
Two broken toes following an encounter with hidden rock above Stable Stones Brow, The Chew yesterday - Gritstone 1 / Alphin left foot -2
Cmon Phil youre not getting out of thursday nights that easily
Not quite injured but the dreaded "DOMS" are killing me after sprinting off Coniston on a recce Saturday evening
Think I'm just generally falling apart!
Knee still dodgy, the dreaded shin splints have flared up again, back of my left thigh feel like it is about to cramp up all the time and my back feels like I've been run over by a steam roller - wouldn't mind if I knew what was causing it.
Hope it all sorts it's self out soon - I've got a 10K a week on Sunday I was hoping for a good (for me) time in!!
I'm just tackling a left knee patella tracking problem, had the same problem last year, it comes along as the miles/effort increase. I remember visiting a fizzio and getting a zinc oxide roll plaster strapped around the knee intended to re-align things. This time I DIY'd it in the car park (prior to a trot up Cadair Idris) with electrical tape which worked a treat, and it's waterproof not to mention cheap. If only ALL injuries were that easy to fix!
Hamstring pinged halfway through a road 10k. Had to get a lift back in the police video van. :(
Freddy Kruger back, some kind of (fungal) infection that has left my back red raw. Ladies special ointment spread on the back to compliment the Anti-biotics which were prescribed. I am hoping this goes some way to explaining my mind numbingly dumb decisions at the weekend to nav from memory rather than map, or gps which sat in my rucksack! What a plonker Rodney!
Been struggling with what I thought was relatively mild heel/achilles bursitis and had hoped to nurse it through today's Ilkley Trail race - no such luck - could feel the achilles getting stiffer and stiffer on the neverending gradual ascent before I decided to jack it in after a couple of miles which given I am now struggling top walk without a limp was a wise decision:(.
Gonna take a fortnight's break to let it recover properly before a walking holiday in Corsica later next month.
Bloody knee tendonitis.......still!!! 6 weeks after the highland fling and not gone away
I walked past a pool table on saturday night and knee'd the coin slot, straight on the patella, the tissue beneath is really sore it's a good job i'm currently about as much use to a fellrace as Anne Frank's drumkit.
Left thigh, feels like being knifed in the leg. But only when descending, unlucky considering the nature of fell running
I Let my mind drift for a second then ended up crumpled on pointy rocks, the left knee got the brunt just below the kneecap with a hard smack+ grazed right thigh and chest and cut hand
happened at my turn round point managed to plod home but now swollen a stiff
Bound to be some at the Snowdon race today but hopefully none serious!
Pull the other one?
Ignore this now. Intruder removed.
21 stitches below the knee for Claire R after the Pincyn race yesterday. The interesting thing about this is that it probably wasn't a piece of sharp Welsh slate or a broken bottle in the undergrowth - it's been suggested to me that it was more likely a burst injury where, on impact following the fall, the skin below the knee pulled down so much it ripped open or burst the skin below the joint!
Hello, i just finished my major training program on sunday...
But to my dismay it ended with a swollen Achilles tendon in the middle portion... somewhere between then calf and the bottom part of my Achilles tendon. 4 days have past and its getting better the swelling has gone away but i can still feel some pain and and small bump on the outer side of the tendon not exactly on the BACK side of the tendon... could anyone suggest any kind of therapy ? i am trying to recover from this injury as soon as possible due to my registration in the Ultra trail Du mont blanc 2010 ?
*i have about 22 days to recover do you think its enough ?
does anyone have any kind of suggestions ? thank you

Sounds like Achilles Tendonitis. See above link. I've seen off AT with these exercises two or three times (I don't do the stretch, just the first three). The most recent with symptoms just like you've described and within the time-scale you've got
Good luck with re-hab and UTMB!
I hurt my tendon on 08/01/2010; to a point That it got swollen. It hurt from the first hour on a 58K trail run with +3100m ~10h ... i have not run SINCE ITS Much Better , it Feels ok when i walk or stretch ... Some advice: I'd like to start testing how or What Would You do in my position till the race .. Though i have tried swimming to keep in shape.
Another thing now is that the tendon is not hurting but i have a pain inside the calf... could this be from over massaging or over physiotherapy ?
thank you
Training been erratic lately and not had much impetus, however went out last night about 6 took head torch as I thought if I felt good would be out a couple of hours. Got going and felt strong and knew I was going to have a good one. Three miles in still in the light jogged across a notoriously slippery footbridge I was well aware of, turned to step off it and bam, straight over landing face down driving head torch into L eyebrow. I was on a track by the Turkey at Gooseye so I went into the pub with blood sheeting down my face to check the damage, the fussing I got from a buxom blonde lady almost made the whole thing worthwhile. Spent 4 hours at A&E for a couple of steristrips and some glue.
Interestingly Triage nurse who saw me was an organiser of the Fellsman, after chatting to him may enter next year. Bit disappointed the eye is not completely closed over as I was hoping for an excuse to get out of the 3px at the w/e.
Grrr,
Turned my ankle heather bashing on Houndkirk moor on Saturday, one of those horrible turns where you can feel and (I swear) hear the ripping in your foot. Yuk. Turned the air blue with my yelps.
Was hoping to get a couple of races in this week, looks like that one's out of the window...
hello...
I would like to ask some fellow runners for there opinions on my problem...
I ran the Athens classical marathon on Sunday 10/31/2010 but i am experiencing an unbearable pain problem WHILE running... the pain appeared quite early after the 10th Km, (i was feeling, stiffness on my legs from the start of the race) i supposed that the pain would go away while i was warming UP, BUT IT didn't, it continued to build up until the end of the race where the pain was UNBEARABLE... its not pain on a certain point of my legs but its general all over my muscles tendons etc... i also feel that recovery days are MUCH longer than they used to be ... something like 5 times longer...
these symptoms also appeared in another ULTRA race 22 days before this one ...
generally i have trained allot this year something like over 2600Km since January...
1) is this some kind of Over training Muscle damage?
2) I don't feel tired energy wise...
3) Its like i feel the stiffness i am supposed to feel after the long run but instead i feel it DURING the race ...
4) I am quite concerned because i would like to know if the muscle damage is reversable or not?
5) is there any kind of therapy for this ?
thankyou ...
A beautiful, fruity anterior talofibular ligament rupture caused by wonderful council workmen leaving nice bumpy rubble after ripping up the pavement. Felt the double whammy of the talus smacking around in its mortise and the plummy pop of the ligament letting go. Needless to say, foot is size of football and colour of a baboons ar*e now. Such joy!
Cricked neck playing table tennis with the students at Shipley College.
Same here, although I don't know if it's a rupture yet. I too have an elephant sized foot and have affected a hobbling gait as well. Maybe we could use each others good ankles on a shift basis to get the training in (assuming you've done the right in and not the left) :D
YR! Sorry but I've knacked me left one as well! So we are b*ggered from the get go. Never mind. Anyway, it immaterial whether you have a complete tear or not. Recovery is much the same. PRICE for 2 days and then early mobilisation with lots of proprioceptive training....looks like the kids trampoline is gonna get some use!
Wheeze - I'm planning to build a wobble board this weekend to sort me out. Last time I had a complete rupture I ended up needing an op to put it right but hopefully this time it heals better. Good luck
Tibial band, again :-(
Inflamed on outside of right knee. Not run for almost two weeks now, nightmare. Saw physio this week, rest and ultrasonic treatment.
Full tour of pendle just over one week from now. Everthing crossed that it settles down enough.
