Oh dear 120 for 4 on the first day. I feel the worst.
Well well well, what a turn around.
With Stokes having a goodun.
And the bowlers performing well.
The follow on is a possibility.
Would Joe enforce it though?
England need to keep moving in this fixture. It would be a shame if the weather was a winner
Well done England. Some very good performance's throughout the team.
Think Joe has learned a little bit more too.
Joe's had a decent series. Mo an awesome one. Test match cricket: the only sport that ever really mattered
Great for Joe and his team. Selection can still be improved upon I feel.
Possibly 2,3 & 5 could do with a look at.
Bad day for Yorks, hammered by Essex
2 and 3 batsmen both out for 8
Cook and Root going nicely both passing 50s
Huge score on the cards me thinks
Watched a bit today. Too one sided I think.
Windies have lost last 6 tests.
350 by close?
Nice score for Cooky, give him a warm fuzzy feeling finally turning a high score in.
Windies following on.
Don't think they will reach England's score with both their innings added together.
An innings and over 200 runs and in under 3 days.
It's a shame because I remember some good Windies team's.
anyone else take the opportunity to go today? I went and it was a very absorbing day of cricket.
What an amazing match! I really hope that this loss doesn't cause Root to play it safe in future when it comes to declaring.
True, but I disagreed with the commentary who thought it was a good total to defend. The WI first innings and a decent second innings by England showed it was a batting pitch. I think another 40-50 could have made WI reach a little harder for a win and caused them to make mistakes. But clearly what do I know.
Most important thing is that it was a good match and nice to see WI produce a good performance with all the issues they have.
A great result for Essex from an unlikely position following their first innings total. A big step forward to achieving Div 1 champions in their first season after promotion. The next match is important though.
Had a smile to see Middlesex go down today.
Wonder what the prawn sandwich brigade think.
Would you have dropped Stokes?
No, he is our match winner.
Official quote.
England all-rounder Ben Stokes will be withdrawn from the Ashes squad if he remains under police investigation when the tour to Australia begins.
Big job for Root on Sunday morning. Cracking start to series
A draw would be a good result.
How much longer can they leave Cook in the team.
The lad is broken and needs a break.
He will score big in 1 or 2 innings but out of 10 that's not good enough for this level.
Cook (along with Root) is the senior batsman. No’s 2,3 and 5 have been of concern for a good while, not Cook. The next couple of sessions will have a huge impact on the whole series. Root is world-class, but very much finding his feet as captain. A big score from him is vital. It’s been a fascinating “proper” test match so far. Good bowling from both sides at times, and a real captain’s innings from Smith. Brilliant stuff
Aussies will be 1-0 up after this test.
Oh dear, I see us losing the little Urn.
3-1 to the home side is my prediction.
Funny how home teams chose a ground where they have a good record of winning for the first test.
Our lot go to lord's, where we have a poor win record but the ties like it.
First session or two tomorrow might well be the crux of the series. Good match so far
Looking like a draw.
Australia to win. England look broken
BREAKING NEWS
England discovery, bowling at the wickets brings success.
Still on for a draw, this is the 4th day.
Oh dear 4 for 1
You may be right DT
If we lose this test, I would send some of the players home and bring in some youngsters.
3-0 or 5-0 just doesn't matter.
TAXI for COOK
Alastair Cook has scored 83 runs in six innings in this series.
29 - 2
Will Cook retire at (or before) the end of this series? He owes England very little and at least hasn’t done what Alex Stewart did ie announce at the beginning of the summer that the final home test of the season would be his last
Cook has had lean patches before. He is facing a very good Australian bowling attack. In the absence of any youngsters knocking on the door, I think he should stay for a while until someone good enough takes his place.
Fair point noel
England lose series 4-0
Batting well below standard.
Bowling woeful
What or who needs changing?
After beating the Aussies for the 3rd time in the limited overs format.
Why don't we just play the same team and tactics for a test match.
Just slog everything.
Worth a try?
It’s a different event Trev, almost a different sport. You wouldn’t hope to win Stanbury Splash at Spine pace and vice versa
