If we're all thinking thinking about the same chap here, yes he did trot off Great Gable to climb Kirk Fell in last year's race...
He's actually notorious in our club for having started the race 6 times and only finishing once - probably due to the laws of probability, i.e. he was bound to find thew right way in at least one of his attempts...! I believe most of his other unsuccessful attempts ended on Base Brown ;)
He's still a great bloke :)
