Excellent write-up from the guy who came 4th last
Thanks for that DT, indeed excellent!
I have heard from the lady in the bivvy bag he describes (and I stuffed her into that bag) and she has indeed broken her ankle but seems in good spirits about it all and very grateful! :)
Heard about the ankle and helicopter evac from a twitter mate. Hugs and good wishes. Enjoyed that retrobike write up earlier. Splendid. I take it everyone's feasting on Dave Haygarth's feed of great reports at http://3pcx.blogspot.com/
...and here's on of the earlier moments of it all going wrong....

Anyone else doing it? ive just got my entry in, There are nealy 600 in allready
Ive entered.
The bikes got discs this time round to!
Entered too.
Not saying anything, but am having a balsawood bike made for the ascent of Simon's Fell, just in case ;)
I got my invitation to enter today, filled it in and all that remains to do is finish building the bike plus a shed load of training :D another excuse to get out and about.
Invitation for me too, job's a good un, just need to survive the L100:w00t:
Im In too
Time to rebuild my 30 year old Alan!
I have an invite to enter! :)
Now I need to think carefully what it is I want to do... and if I shall accept my invite. Too many races, not enough time and money to do them in!
I'm in! Flip - better start cycling...
Shall I get a single speed?
Fixed?
Here we go again! Yay! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ZWOOVVi89I
I will be interested to see if my newfound mountain biking experience is going to help me or hinder me...
Here we go again. Once more into the madness...
better ask the only man I can trust if he will do my support again, 4th year running :w00t:
He said yes, so I have activated my invite to race and paid my dues :w00t:
After helping out (and watching you lot grrrrrr) for the last few years, in and really looking forward to this one, bring it on!
I'm in again.
so i was walking by the computer and i tripped and fell and clicked on the mouse - and accidentally entered the three peaks cyclocross (might have accidentally entered some payment details too) - arg what have i done - <buries head in sand>
took the crosser up win hill on sunday - i am the wussiest descending wuss ever - oh well
It is part of the descent of Pen-y-gent though!!!! :p And these days, I can be seen flying down there ;)
Nik is right Ratfink, by being cautious you end up quicker as you have fewer or no mechanicals... I also find certain downhills are quicker running with the bike on your bacvk than actually riding slowly!
Thanks for the words of encouragement cross fans - can anyone tell me if I can toe in frog leg brakes - my rear brake is squeaking like a squeaky thing - but the adjustment available doesn't seem to allow it (toe in).
I find the squeeling quite handy, as it announces your arrival :)
Ratfink, Frogslegs are the same as the old Speciality Racing Products "Mr Grumpy" brakes that I used to have; no vertical adjustment or toe-in adjustment as such. The brake blocks are on a plain shaft that clams into the brake arms with only rotary adjustment in 2 planes. Finer adjustment is somewhat crude .... you gently ( and very carefully ) bend the plain shaft so that the brake block ends up at the correct angle(s). Possibly best left to a LBS that has experience in setting up 'cross bikes ( maybe Paul Milnes if you are in Yorkshire). I now use Tektro 520/720 brakes which are very easy to set up in all planes.
Ian.
I'm another accidental entry and at the moment the fear is bigger than the excitement! Anyone fancy lugging bikes up hills round Airedale or Wharfedale?
