I can see the mileage being about right as you can follow the Pennine Way over Blackhill to Crowden and over Bleaklow adding more uneccessary distance on and if you were to follow PW all the way to Snake:eek:
But I must admit the ascent is a bit of a surprise but having worked it out roughly on an old fashion paper map I reckoned about 4,300ft so not far out.

My figures came from Motion Based and seem to match up well with other races i've done. Downloading through Garmin training centre for Tanky's gave me 5949 ascent, 5796 descent wildly inaccurate imho:)

Good point Merry, the figures I put on for Linda's were from garmin training centre:o

Re: Tanky's Trog is ON!
Figures I put on entry form of 21.5 miles and 3750 ft (up) were from the map my run site.
Just used multimap and done a rough calculation, Marsden up to Wessenden down to Dean Clough up to Soldiers lump down to Crowden Little Brook down to Crowden YH up to Bleaklow Head down the Hern Clough up to Alport Low down to Fairbrook up to Seal Edge down to Blackden up to Golden Clough top down to bottom of GC down to Jolly Rambler.
This gives 3950 feet of ascent and 3765 feet of descent put say 15% on for all the "minor" ups and downs gives 4550 up and 4330 down.
Not a million miles away for a rough a***d way of doing it.
What a set of sad people we are, have we nowt better to do, or is a form of relaxation before Calderdale tomorrow.
See some of you around Blackshaw Head to Wainstalls (Royston Vaisey look alike )

Re: Tanky's Trog is ON!
Hi,
Just to say I had my garmin 305 on and it measured 21.7 miles and 5342 of ascent and 5180 of descent. clearly I was going up and down too much!

Re: Tanky's Trog is ON!
I don't know if any one has a copy of Tankys results from 2003
I'm trying to fill in the names on one of the trophies from that year.
Pm me or put a link on here. Cheers.

Are you able to deduce the Ladies' record for the current route from these results? Tanky never provided one for the FRA Calendar.
In 1990 and 1991 I know the race went over Laddow Rocks. By 1995 it had changed to the present route over Black Hill. Do you know whether it changed in 92, 93, 94 or 95?
-
Re: Tanky's Trog is ON!
I wasn't aware there was a route as such, simply 2 checkpoints between Marsden and Edale and a couple of 'out of bounds' areas, Rollick Stones and the bit after Black Hill summit. I suppose some kind of optimum route has evolved over time which take a bit of the mystery away unless the clags down or you just go walk about.
Still a fantastic outing, would love it if Rollick Stones could be revived and avoid the trudge around the reservoir.
-
Re: Tanky's Trog is ON!
I think a few did avoid the trudge round the reser. ;)

The positioning of the check point directs you in a certain way.
When the route was over Laddow the check point was at the stile on the Pennine Way above the Outdoor centre.
We used to bear right directly after the checkpoint and cut diagonally across very rough ground to cross the road at the farm above Torside Dam wall.
Margaret - I will see if I can determine which year it changed. If I remember correctly there were a couple of changes. One taking in Rollik Stones and then back to Torside.

Mrs Stagger - yeah i be well keen
Ian - chest infection stopped play last year (since been diagnosed asthma or similar which slightly struggling to control at mo - should just enter and hope for the best - can always resurrect tuck shop if not)
Knowing my luck i'll have missed the nice frozen year and got the one with even more armpit deep mud than usual (off on a navigation course at plas y brenin in november so hopefully hone my clag skills whilst there)
