Just checked the map for the 20th time this week and i might be persuaded to...
Come off it Ian, you only carry the map for the kitcheck, after that it'll stay in the bag!
It's vet 45s, and only cos I've done more races than everyone else...;)

Re: Edale Skyline 30th March 2
Ian I think the shortest way is to stay left of the Woolpacks altogether but that is the easiest to go on a detour too. I think the easiest way, especially if boggy as it will be, is to stay right on a faint trod that avoids going through the Woolpacks, its slightly longer but easier running and in my opinion quicker.

Good look for Sunday peeps, enjoy yourselves and if you have a WAP enabled phone you can post your progress on the forum - I'll read with interest at work.

Re: Edale Skyline 30th March 2
Am fairly new to fell-running so am excited and bricking it about Sunday ... Lord's Seat to Brown Knoll is giving me a bit of a headache (assuming i make Mam Nick) ... i recced the route on rock hard ground a month or so ago and ran the upper route but think the lower or easterly might be a better option given the rain etc ???? help!

Re: Edale Skyline 30th March 2
Well I'm going to give Swoop a call should I hit a navigational problem.
Having only been round the route once, I have only a very vague idea of what you lot are even talking about . My game plan is to try and stick on the shoulder of someone in a Dark Peak vest............... even if he goes for the down and up corner cut.

The place to keep your eye on the map if the clag is down is Brown Knoll.
Any one decided on the Down and Up yet from GK to RR ,I'm going round
oooo....i am really tempted to go down and up :rolleyes:...but after a few hours of running.....:confused:

If the clag is down, you'll have to know the lines from Grindslow Knoll to RR quite well to use them to good effect. Down and up may be an option then - certainly a lot harder to go astray on...
Right now the sun is doing its best to melt the last few snow patches on Mam tor and the southern edges.

Sadly the chance of thick clag is looking less likely:(
Weather forcast is improving all the time

Re: Edale Skyline 30th March 2
That's quite a trip Raymond - hope it's worth it! Have a good one.
I'm looking forward to this - first time I've said that about a race for such a long time. No niggles, no obvious tiredness, no worries about the route or the conditions (nothing can be as testing as last year surely).
I'd type 'bring it on!!!', but I'm not American :D .

With that kind of optimism, you do realise that something will now go badly wrong. You've forgotten the first rule of fell running - get your excuses in first :D

Re: Edale Skyline 30th March 2
Don't forget the clocks go forward tonight.
No chance of breaking the course record if you're an hour down before you start!
-
Re: Edale Skyline 30th March 2
Good luck all you Skyliners tomorrow, hope the weather's better than today!

You won't see me, I'm afraid, IanDP.
I was overcome by a chest infection overnight and it feels as if a team of Italian waiters has been at work my thorax with industrial strength Parmesan graters. Any temptation I may have had to ignore this was dealt with firmly by Mrs Tussockface and I find myself confined to barracks.
I'm just off to unpack my kit and tip my sport drink down the plughole.
:(
Good luck everyone, I'll be thinking wistfully of you all staggering through the bog at Brown Knoll.....:D

Re: Edale Skyline 30th March 2
Stolly - retired injured :(
Pulled a calf muscle I think.

Re: Edale Skyline 30th March 2
1 Lloyd Taggart
2 Tim Werret
3 Charlie Stead (I think)
It was a bit blustery on Mam Tor to say the least.
Daz h will be along later to discuss whether to 'go round' or 'down and up' :D

Re: Edale Skyline 30th March 2
had my eyes on a 3hr 15 time and was on course until i decided to jump off the end of grindslow ignoring earlier advice from messers briggs and howie:) .
but it had to be done
i wouldnt recommend it though , i reckon i lost a few minutes and the climb is horrendous, but i managed to hit the checkpoint bang on, i felt on top of the world when alan yates said hats off to ya young lad for trying that as i scrambled up towards him.
a great day out and thanks to all who helped out
sight of the day must have been ian dark peaks mudclaws
OMG i cant describe them, ha ha:D
i stashed some liquid en route which certainly helped.
good turn out from the pennine runners.
great weather, nice to see you again dom , hope you recover soon.
again noticeable how quickly briggs hit the flapjack
just taking the dog for a quick 2 miles
-
Re: Edale Skyline 30th March 2
Daz - that was some run for someone taking it easy!! Well done. Wouldn't listen about the down & up, though, would you?
Just seen the results. I'm a bit miffed - looks like I was first vet 45, but they gave the prize to some bloke who finished 5 minutes after me:mad: . Oh well, next year I'll be a vet 50, so I'll just have to try again I suppose!!
Thanks to all the marshals, organisers & everyone else involved. It was a fantastic day to be out on the hills. Not forgetting Bertie Bassett at the bottom of Lose Hill - I thought I was halucinating.

That was Darth of the Darkside I sense a new Avatar coming along.

Feel very tired tonight

I'm not so sure Daz - I know who you are now and I had a bit of a gap in front of you when you must have gone down and up. You only finished a minute behind me and I was feeling pretty good at the end so I wasn't hanging around (in fact one of the marshalls at Ringing Roger said I hadn't been trying hard enough...) When the splits come out you might find you actually saved a bit of time. I would have had a go myself, but I hadn't recced it and went for the safer option. Quite pleased with the run, though 7 mins slower than 2006, still it was much boggier today (and windier in places.)
Cheers,

No, but it may have happened on the bit of a descent from Crookstone Knoll. I noticed it as I reached Win Hill. It then hurt like buggery descending to Hope but I bashed on up Lose Hill. Unfortunately on the descent after the ladder over the fence it was stabbingly painful - I ended up hobbling through the woods and then walking to Mam Tor.
A shame really as I'd been going well at the start, reaching Win Hill in 1 hr and two minutes or so.
