Ah well...good practice for my eventual one day perhaps bg
LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING YOU ALL. GOOD LUCK :)
Foot and Mouth - race still on?
GOOD LUCK ALL YOU BORROWDALERS
RATHER YOU LOT THAN ME :p
Well I'm back having Borrowdale'd - they cut out the Scafell Pike bit due to bad weather so everyone cut right at Esk Hause directly to the foot of Great Gable; I'd guess that's a mile off the proper route but maybe 30 to 40 minutes (??) shortening of the time due to the terrain up round Scafell Pike.
It was gloriously muddy and wet and slippery..... and the grips on my fell shoes have definitely seen better days. Needless to say I fell a few times but no damage done.
I didn't meet up with any of the forumites, although I think I saw Emmilou right before the off ; well thats if your name is Emma anyway (headband and reddish top?). On the lead up to Bessyboot did you end up running near some chap who, for some reason, chose to run topless ? :) . Apologies if he's in the forum :D
Did anyone pass that bloke with the sign on his back (that he was training for a 24 hour track run or something) - he definitely had an awful breathing problem; sort of a dog like growling sound.... that was really, really annoying. He chose to run just behind me after Bessyboot but, despite, the uphill gradient, I had to run away from him - the alternative would have been to punch him I think :)
I absolutely loved this run and finished in pretty good nick after something like 3 hours 55...... which would of course have been nearer 3:50 if it wasn't for the queueing straight after the start  .
More to follow from others, I'm sure, but a brief update on the race. It was shortened just before the start due to the weather conditions by cutting out the checkpoint at the top of Scafell Pike. This meant that we went direct from Esk Hause to Sty Head and then up Great Gable. Total distance 14.8 miles and 5688ft ascent.
Later.......Isn't that typical. Nothing at all and then we're both posting at the same time. You'll see that it was a good bit more than a mile off the route.
Several topless runners (male!) including our Luv Shack.
:) Yeah, I just looked at the race profile and we definitely missed a goodish climb out. Funnily enough the only bit of ground on this route that I've been over before was Esk Hause to Scafell Pike (I've run up from Langdale a couple of times)
Maybe it was Luv Shack I saw; I saw the same chap come in at the end and his skin was very red; it must have been freezing in all that rain to Esk Hause!
Stolly you must have been near me then as I finished in 4 hours. mad woman blue top went for wee on dale head pink head band?
Even though I was absolutely knackered at the start it was a great day out. First climb hard rest ok. Loads a forumites...lovely to see so many. Sorry I didnt talk for longer to the girls. Emma, looking forward to hearing you report back and Daleside you looked ravishing in your top :D
How much to add on time wise to guestimate actual route then.?
Well done to everyone and big thanks to organisers and marshals. Too tired to type more. Wish I was partying with those still up there!
yeah was me. I lost my bottle on the slippy slate but had fun in the mud bath after.
Well done mate
What great fun:) Was actually quite sad going up dale side as I knew that it was coming to an end:(
Although when going down the final descent my knees were not as sad. Really bad shoes for the job. Terrocs were a liability and I slipped (literally) loads of places on all descents.
Moo, think I was running near you quite a bit up until the descent from dale side. Grey windproof or black nike t-shirt, black bum bag.
Think they def made the right decision re: Scafell. If mountain rescue reckon it unsafe then we have to honor that decision. Did look nasty up there!
I ran in a blue long sleeved Helly Hanson top with a white short sleeved top.. on top. Race number 28.
Well done everyone.
Who won, did Booth get 10 in 10? And who was first lady?
Too much information Moo :)Quote:

Why was Scafell missed out?Quote:

Is it because this is an enter on the day race?
Insurance?
I could not see anything wrong with the weather didn't seem much different from the Wasdale!
Any word on Emma?
Bill
Emma did fantastically and looked really strong coming in at the end. WOHOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
WELL DONE EMMA :)
Whats next....?!
:D Well done everyone :)
1. bardsley
2. jebb
3. booth
4.-9. in no order; tom owens, pete vale, phil davies, jim davies, jonny bland, Ricky lightfoot
10.-15. in no order; martin barron, nick fish, mark palmer, jon wright, ben abdelnoor, joe blackett
Funniest thing for me was going up Gable into the last quarter of the climb, the runner behind me says 'what hill is this then?' Best bit was the tea and butties afterwards and well done to the team for putting so much together for so many runners.
Yes, I heard that but thought I was mistaken.
For those of us wedged firmly in the mid-pack, i think the route was shortened by about 40-45 mins. Adjust your times accordingly!:p
I heard that as well, nearly choked on my energy bar :D
Bill
Did you see the pool of blood at the slate mines? I think there were a few nasty falls (as you'd realistically expect). One chap overtook me on the fast descent down the track to the foot of Gable and did the full frontal body graze thing - he said he was okay mind and bashed on.
I managed to put one leg waist deep in a 'shallow' pool a couple of times and slipped or got clogged in the mud fairly regularly. I also found sliding on my backside a useful alternative coming down the steep drop off of Dale Head!
JUST BACK - VERY SORE HEAD:o
ma in law made lunch so have to go - back later but some snaps for ya!!

Mountain Rescue weren't asked, they made a point of seaking out and speaking to Scoffer and advising that in view of the reports their guys on the hill were making, that the race should be shorthened in the way that it was. Scoff had to make a tough decision at that time, based on the advice given to him in blunt terms. He made the only choice he could. Hindsight shows that conditions rapidly improved - but the forecast didn't suggest that. The fact that he got a round of applause at the start suggests that almost everyone respected him for making that uneviable decision.
a great weekend and a brilliant race , although not the full route i didnt mind,
thanks to scoffer and all that helped make it work,
scoffer should be applauded for taking that decision to cut it short and i cannot see any relevance to edale, at edale you just turn right and drop back down , thats not really the case at borrowdale. anyway if people didnt like it im sure scoffer would have just said tough shit, he said he had taken advice from MR and as far as im concerned we can all go back next year and do it again if we wish.
the race started very quick for me and all was going well until i turned right at esk hause and went over on my left shoulder badly , i was thinking of dropping out at sty head because of the pain, i trotted down to gable upon where geoff b and goose fat just passed by as we started the climb , i managed to keep with geoff and he pulled me up to the top, did we find the correct line off gable im not sure but i fell again comingdown. i seemed to lose touch with the runners in geoffs group but i decided not to cross the stile before grey knotts and followed the fence , i def made time here , passed most of that group and had got back to geoff at honister.
dale head was hard and i had the fortune of sharon from bingley go by and drag me up to the top, dropping off dale head i fell again badly , by this time my shoulder was really throbbing, i fell again coming down the final bit through the ferns and thought i was running backwards on that final path to the field.
well done to all , emmi especially , told you you would be okay :)
some snap in the hotel then didnt stop dancing with all the forumites in the markee, last thing i remember was jumping around in a ring with emmi, rob jebb, luv shack and god knows who else , absolutley great .
it doesnt get better than that :D , wild or what
walked back to the campsite with michael and emmi complete with flourescent sticks and torches, pity i was very tipsy and forgot to zip up my tent :( , woke up at 5.30am with a hangover my trousers and shirt was outside totally soaked from the rain , i had to dash to the car in underpants to get some fresh gear, good job no one was up
i will def be back for more next year
[quote=OneHillWonder;56896]might come with you next year:D
