Really enjoyed my first Borrowdale - one of those events you think about for ages afterwards. Interesting that even some of those at the sharp end went AWOL at times. Clearly lots of scope for recce-ing and micro-recce-ing to fine tune the route if seconds/minutes matter. I was just happy to beat the cut off and not sustain any damage despite several slips on grass/rock. Inov8 Mudclaw 333s did not grip at all on wet rock, and even on grass they let me down repeatedly, though it was wet/very steep. Boulders on the route to Scafell Pike were challenging, as was the descent from Dale Head, though I doubt I took the best lines. Interesting to compare with Duddon/Ennerdale/3 peaks - probably the roughest of all of them, and the hardest, despite not being particularly long. Luckily the threatening clouds stayed mainly where they belonged - above the tops. And yes, to cap it all, was cheered on by Joss at the bottom of Great Gable: "This Ambleside lad could be a dark horse!" - made my day.

Well done Allan! Can't be easy knowing you're last. A lot of admiration for that sort of thing!
