I'm totally sick of my clubs name being dragged thro' the clart by mindless morons and thugs. It is a minority to a degree, but it wasn't a minority singing the Savile song or abusing Dave Jones, who always seems a genuinely decent bloke to me! Its not the worst I've seen, and it happened to us at Carlisle but it just needs stamping on.
It was like a return to the bad old days on Friday for our club and it reminded me how I used to feel in the 80's when Leeds fans were regularly involved in trouble. Deep shame and embarrassment.
I think the issue of offensive chanting needs to be tackled. It's been happening for donkeys years but because it's not racist chanting it's been allowed to carry on pretty much unchecked. I used to cringe with embarrassment when so called Leeds fans sang the "Munich" song. I could understand why Dave Jones was so upset in his post match interview with the chants aimed at him, but as he said himself he has had to take it for 12 years, so the issue is much wider than Leeds. I also hope that in retrospect he is also able to reflect that the taunting by Sheffield Wednesday supporters about the two fans murdered in Turkey was every bit as vile.
If points deductions are what it takes to stamp this sort of thing out then so bit it but it needs to be applied consistently. You mentioned the incident at Carlisle a few years ago when their fans invaded the pitch at the end and attacked Leeds players. Correct me if I'm wrong but I seem to remember Carlisle escaping without punishment.

He got a ticket so what, you can pick up a ticket most weeks.
Leeds United operate a membership scheme, which you have to join in order to apply for away tickets. Since his banning order would automatically preclude this moron from membership, I can only assume that one of his half-witted mates got him a ticket.
Another thing that disappointed me was the apparent readiness of the fans to let him back into the stand after he assaulted Kirkland. I suppose I'm living in cloud cuckoo land to imagine that they could have frog-marched him back out again to the police.

He was given a 16-week jail sentence and a five-year football banning order.
The court heard Cawley had been drinking heavily and had already breached two previous banning orders.
Taken from BBC website.
Two questions jump out
1 whats the point of a banning order when the numpty has just broken 2 previous orders?
2 why was a big local derby played friday night and not saturday lunch time?
Make me sick to be a leeds fan with thugs like that following the club.
Re: Tonight's football thread
It amazes me that the sentence was so lenient for an unprovoked assault on someone. He gets 16 weeks, yet the person who disrupted the boat race was sent down for 6 months for merely causing a public nuisance.
Re: Tonight's football thread
What was bad, was he walked off and hid in the Leeds fans... he should have been pushed out back on to the pitch...

Agreed. When I heard about it I couldn't believe he'd managed to get on the pitch, attack a player and get back in the crowd and subsequently out of the ground without being caught. Obviously it's disgraceful that stewards and police should have to deal with this kind of nonsense, but it seems pretty poor to me that he wasn't stopped.

Man City down 1-3, can the comeback kings do it again ?
