Barny, I'm hoping for about 9 1/2 to 10 hours as a newbie. I'd expect to do a fair bit of walking too. After the heat of Thursday (22 degrees for much of the day) it will depend on the day though. I need to avoid the temptation to over do things early on when I feel relatively able.
same here, i've walked that distance but my longest run has been a marathon which had 5,200' of ascent (the Leaden Boot) so i know i'm good for the climbing, food is obviously going to be very important, i'm wondering about taking some boiled and salted spuds with me to break up the normal sweet stuff i tend to eat on a longer run.
will have to experiment with it first but with it being fairly plain i don't forsee any problems. it's going to require a whole different mindset though.
I have done it the last two years and certainly did not run every step! In fact had to make myself walk one and then run the next between telegraph poles on the long road bit. Also has a bad patch before rush up edge area.Despite this I managed 7 hours
I know the feeling. This complete change of mind seems to be a common phenomenon in ultra running! I wonder whether its akin to the way a woman's brain deletes the memory of the pain of childbirth?Quote:

On a separate note.....anyone got recommendations for campsites/B&B's suitable for my recce next week - planning to do from Castletlon to Buxton mainly. I'm thinking in Buxton but perhaps someone knows better :)

You could try Limetree Park, caravan and camping. Dukes drive Buxton, it's right by the viaduct about 1ml from the finish, you actually pass it on the way in, it appears to have all the facilities and it's close to town.Quote:
