nice one guys.
Keep the increase in Mileage/frequency slow.
Great to see steady improvements!
Is it normal to have really tight glutes after doing these exercises? Bearing in mind I haven't run for 6 months it could be just a real shock to the system but I cant seem to loosen them
I was having some pretty intense knee pain on longer runs. At first I assumed it was just the mileage increase but it remained and was just in one knee. It was mainly on the outside but felt almost all over the knee cap at times with slight hip shooting pains. Downhill made it much much worse to the point the knee was almost buckling when trying to run through it. The pain went away almost as soon as i stopped.
I thought enough of trying to run through it so saw my GP. He gave me a referal to a physio as my work has medical insurance luckily. Had a "triage" phone call today with a physio and she thought ITBS from my symptoms so have been given an appointment with a physio next week. She thinks me being potentially flat footed isn't helping either.
she didn't think its too severe since it only flares up on longer runs and I don't get too bad pain afterwards. Hopefuly a few sessions will see it right....been told to hang fire with training which is the most frustrating part :(
Ordered a foam roller today so I guess if I am to continue I am going to need to learn to love it. Its encouraging reading your stories here though! :D
anybody got an opinion on whether it would be wise to continue my forays into aquasock running whilst rehabilitating my ITB?
um... what is aquasock running? is that running in the pool with a crazy pair of shoes on to keep you going in the right direction, or fellrunning in wetsuitboots?
the latter. but in this case not on the fells, on the road (sshhh, don't tell anyone). Prior to my injury I had been doing a few miles a week in something very like these

in an attempt to get my running posture sorted and to strengthen my calves. Just wondered if it was wise to continue with a new running style whilst semi-injured.
wow... thats... um, interesting.
Its entirely up to you.
Personally, I wouldnt, especially when injured. If you think its going to help you, feel free, and update us on the progress (or not as the case may be)... !
the self treatment has not resulted in any meaningful progress, so I have taken myself to the doctors and am in the process of getting referred to a physio.
I managed a 2 mile run (aquasocks) on the 16th with no probelm and no post run pain. However yesterday I got to 1.5 miles and my knee started hurting again. Hopefully a professional can design some sort of rehab program and I'll get back off-road!
meantime I feel like I will probably have to write off the rest of the summer with regard to races. but at least this will give me time to properly plan my campaign and training regime for the winter and next year.
