Re: Great Westmorland Trail
Ran it last year - it's a good fast race - my post race comments are on this thread - http://forum.fellrunner.org.uk/showt...tmorland+trail so as you can see mostly runnable short-grass moorland with just one v short steep climb before a long narrow stony path descent.
Enjoy!!
Re: Great Westmorland Trail
Cheers for that. Looks like it got a good turnout last year, just have to decide what shoes to wear now..
Re: Great Westmorland Trail
This is advertised as a trail race but held under FRA rules. What kit requirements are likely? I have never done this one before. My choice of shoes is easy, I only have 1 pair, some very old Walsh PB's.
Re: Great Westmorland Trail
Can't see anything specified, so I'm going to take the lot just in case. Looks like it could be pretty windy and rainy so pack a decent wind/waterproof I guess.
Have a good race tomorrow - ZM
Re: Great Westmorland Trail
Great race today, won unsurprisingly by Carl Bell. Thanks to the organisers and the marshalls who were stood out around the course in the slinging rain. It tipped down for the first half of the race and was pretty muddy underfoot, glad I took my walshes along. Good prizegiving with loads of spot prizes/freebies, and a bag of free tuck for all runners:thumbup:
Re: Great Westmorland Trail
Yep, good run and well organised. Enjoyed the food and prize giving too.
That second steepish climb and slippery stile did for me. Is it me or was that on the tough side for what is advertised as a trail run?
My shoes came good though! I nearly went shopping but decided against it.

Hmmm...man up!
Re: Great Westmorland Trail
Shopping for trail shoes to replace my glued together pb's on the way to the race!
no offence taken lol.
As I said, good race.
My real point was should it be advertised as a trail run or a fell run? Not a complaint about the nature of the course.
Re: Great Westmorland Trail
Nice one, just having a laugh, think you were parked next to me. It was only 700ft though just seemed tougher :w00t:
