Joss

I was fortunate to run with him from part way up Causey Pike to Crag Hill in Sailbeck one year. At the time he was probably about the age I am now so it wasn't as if I could have kept anywhere near him in his younger days. We had a good chat and he was great company. After Crag Hill I was able to get away from him on the descent. The first thing he did after finishing was to come and find me to say 'Well done Lad' . A true gentleman who will be missed by us all. I doubt we will see his like again.

I was at training on tuesday night.... most people know very little about fellracing... a few of the coaches are quite knowledgeable about the likes of Kenny Stuart and (especially) John Wild, due to crossing paths in the cross-country back in the 80's.

However several people, young and old, mentioned Joss Naylor to me this week.

The Times had a full page obituary on Tuesday and I assume The D. Telegraph will have published an obituary.

Joss Naylor's funeral arrangements:
It was Joss’ wish that his funeral should be a colourful celebration of his life and attending fell runners should dress in their club colours. Also, that those who are able should run over any of the passes into Wasdale Head. More details will follow.
St Olaf’s at Wasdale Head is the smallest parish church in England and admission will be by invitation only. There will be a public address system to relay the service to those outside. Nearby parking is extremely limited so if you are not running to St Olaf’s, please car share, park considerately or use public transport.
The Naylor family invite all fell runners to join them at Wasdale Head on Friday 19th July and to form a colourful guard of honour as Joss takes the short journey to his final resting place.

Apparently, Joss's funeral is at 1pm and the FRA have arranged for runs into Wasdale Head from various locations. I have this from a reliable source but as I don't do Facebook and there is no information on this elsewhere, please post if you have more info than I do.
I will be in the Lakes on Thursday evening and plan to park near Honister on Friday and walk/run over via Moses Trod if anyone would like to join me.

Apparently Tindersticks is leading a run to Wasdale,
from Honister, on the Friday morning and parking arrangements have been organised.

There will be group coordinators as follows who will decide a starting time and location but slower runners and walkers will be at liberty to start earlier. Eskdale (Boot) - Steve Wathall, Langdale, Stool End Farm - Ambleside AC, Seathwaite Farm, Borrowdale - Carl Bell and Keswick AC, Honister Slate Mine - Darren Fishwick, Ennerdale - Cumberland Fell Runners. The road heads themselves are likely to be very busy so please car share or use alternative transport where possible. Let's give Joss the send off he so richly deserves.

There will be groups leaving from Eskdale, Langdale, Seathwaite (Borrowdale), Honister and Ennerdale. Aim to arrive in time to form a guard of honour from 12:30 onwards. All welcome - walkers or runners.

And then, if you can get to Patterdale in time, you can go for an evening run up Helvellyn . . .

Sadly I have to back in Brum in the evening otherwise I would of course be running over to Patterdale. Nothing to do with my hip problems of course...
