A good layer of Goose fat will keep the cold out
Buff's are ok if it is not too cold, and they are definitely versatile. But for cold weather running , xc skiing, etc, I like the Craft balaclava - thin enough to breath through if necessary, wicks very well. For really cold weather I add the Craft WS skullcap (if windy) or race hat. I've tried lots of headgear over the years and a lot of it is too warm for running or absorbs too much moisture. Temperature is a relative thing though (how cold do you feel) - what I just listed takes me from +40F (hat only) down to -15F (WS hat + bala).
Well i dont know what the wind-chill was yesturday on the leg1/2 change-over but that was the short of weather personally i dont feel comfortable to be out in just a hat and hud because of the cold/wind battering your face.
I sound like a total softie and Amex will proabably remind me that i need to HTFU..
I use two buffs if it is really cold... ne around the head balaclava style and the other on top around the forehead and ears to provide extra warmth and windchill protection...
I like these.
Would these cut it in a kit check for certain events that required hat/balaclave?
