hi guys, just wondering what the plans are for sun. are you starting at the start or doing the 'easy' bit ;) first? would be great to meet up with some folks for a trot out.
'Easy' bit that must be the car park in Edale as i don't recall an easy bit. Ha Ha.
Has anyone proposed a start time and RV for this on Sunday please? Sorry I haven't had chance to check all the threads. I'm hoping to cycle up to avoid the parking issues. Please don't say Mam Nick. My old road bike doesn't have enough gears for me to get up there without sacrificing a lung.:(
Had a steady run round the flat bit this morning from Mam Nick to the finish, then climbed back out of Edale to the van. Fresh overnight snow and the odd burst of sunshine made for beautiful views, if a little slippy underfoot.
Followed a pair of inov8 roclites on all the main paths (but not the short cuts) but still didn't see the owner. BK is very runnable at the moment and with the weather looking to stay cold at night you may be lucky or unlucky enough to follow my tracks on Sunday.
May join in for a bit of fun, see what the day brings...
10.30  No way I could start that late, BUT....that aside, I'm afraid I can't make it now. Sorry. :(
Son's coach has contacted us, there is a rugby tournament on sunday and Ol is in the 1st team and it's only right and proper I go and support (and wince) as my baby continues working on the cauliflower ears :o
Mrs Stagger also can't make it as Stagger has apparently been 'running' ;)
Have fun guys and girls.
Went round the first half on Wed in the fog, following half a dozen pairs or so of fell shoe prints in the snow (thanks for that, whoever you are). Did the second half on Thursday in fresh snow and fog. Lots of compass work necessary with vis under 100 yards, but there was no wind and the ground is nice and hard. Came down with frozen hair and eyebrows in yeti fashion, having got to know the area around Grindslow Knoll and above Ringing Roger in rather more detail than I wanted!
Did those waterproof Edale Skyline maps ever come to fruition that have been mentioned in previous years you know like the ones you can get for the anni waltz and bgr and other races. Just stops a lot of messing around with map or computer printer at home. Also has anybody got any pictures right from the beginning of the race to ringing roger and the other summits and checkpoints to the finish as my brother is doing the race but this is his first fell race and due to work he is a running coach and where he works he is going to struggle to recce. I don't have any photos and he wont be going round with me as he is about 100 times faster than me so i can't guide him. I know I shouldn't ask others but i can't help him other showing route on map and he's my younger brother so i've got my Big brother hat on.
Pah! Who needs really good maps. Here's one I knocked up myself a couple of years ago . I thought it was excellent at the time but now the embarrassing crapness of it seems to be more noticeable...

Its inaccurate too as the race starts below Ringing Roger just up from the village hall
By the way its a fairly easy route to follow and your brother realistically only stands a chance of getting lost on the bottom left hand corner :D
Thanks Stolly i know you say it's inaccurate but actually it does give him what he needs to know. If you know there is bogs coming and steep climb etc you mentally prepare for it and it's not so bad. So you know i think it will help.
Good to see you shown all the short cuts as well.:D
I did a bit of the route today (Check HPM thread) for those going out on Sunday there is fresh snow to a substantial depth esp from Brown knoll. I was the first over this ground this morning and there was no obvious track. The top of Kinder allthough well walked is plastered and all the 'Local routes' are covered in new snow. If Sundays race is cancelled I will be there.
Is there a start time sorted yet. 9.30?
If the DP race is cancelled I can pick up people from one of the train stations on route Bamford/Hope??
I could well be interested in coming along, not doing the race haven't got in.
Could be good bg training if you're doing the full route.
Is it still a goer.
If so what time?
09:00 for 09:30 start at Mam Nick?
Got up this morning with knee & back problems again. Won't be able to make it now
Enjoy the snow!
It sure is an inaccurate map for me Stolly - "Fast Ridge Run" - nope, never managed that ;-)
It is a fantastic map, I'd love to see similar maps for other races.
Lords Seat to Grindslow should just say 'arse'
hehe! I loved it really... ;)
Sounds cold still up there.
Like running on cold baked alaska. Crunch through the top and you drop in anywhere up to your hip, most of the time just dropped a couple of inches each step. Tough conditions. Though lots of lines to follow, some older than others. I saw 4 people ahead of me, mud claws, roc lites, a square block pattern plus another set of inov8s.
We were up there yesterday, saw another group of 4 ahead of us and another group behind. Is everyone wearing black these days? shows up well against the snow.
Hope no one followed our tracks to Brown Knoll. Didn't get the compass out as visibilty was so good but we drifted a long way left and then back again. Didn't matter so much as the bog was mostly frozen but some nice deep drifts in the groughs.
Did the second half on Saturday BK to finish, I now have doubts.
I think I witnessed all of this, I was heading round anticlockwise on the inside line (last minute HPM recce) and saw 3 groups heading c/w - one of which looked a fair way SW - at around 10am ish.
If you saw a solo runner in a hi vis yellow jacket (unfashionable I know) then that was me.
I will see you all again at the Skyline as the club have very kindly invited me to run the Brown Knoll checkpoint.

How's it looking on the 1st half and 2nd half currently ?. Is it passable or do i need a spade to tunnel my way through ?.
Hi there,
Hope all your training is going well. It was an amazing day yesterday. Hope you got out and did some training
I ran up over the 2nd half early yesterday morning. it was very cold in edale (-8) when i got out of the car. The trip round the top was very nice though. really firm under foot. nice going but a tough in a few places due to it being badly rutted which had frozen so a bit hard on the ankles.

Showing my ignorance here. When is saying do the up and down exactly which bit are we talking about ?. It seem s to read to me like only speedsters should try it.
Up and down is going straight from Grindslow to Ringing Roger, rather than round the rim of Kinder. It's about a mile shorter, but a whole lot hillier!
