Hi Joe
Hope you don't mind but Bob has put your link onto the wfra website as part of the report, very useful so thanks for that

I thought the map looked a bit familiar ;)
Glad you liked it :)
With thanks to Martin, there are some pictures from this race on the site....

I am hoping to be at Peris Horseshoe on Saturday and Source of the Severn on Sunday....

Fifth anniversary on Wednesday of this little toughie. Fellrunner's record of 2006 still stands - I think he won't mind me saying it's there to be beaten. Anna Frost's record is another matter!!
;);)
Love the hotfoot!
Should be a few of us from Helsby there, if it's as warm as tonight i'm taking the flesh vest. Danny will be having a run out too, still improving!
The question is whether downhill racer will give it a go.................!
See you there Martin
Excellent race, a wee toughie, but not too technical. That bit where you cross the stream after the first descent is my favourite couple of hundred yards running in the Clwydians.
As Martins says, the record is very soft. I'm sure a decent runner could take a good 3 or 4 minutes out of it. I think Gilbo is turning out for it, but due to a nasty winter/spring of injuries I don't think that he'll be able to break it this year. Locally, it would be good to see what the Davies brothers, Ricky Challinor or some of the Eryri boys could do.
The weather forecast looks like it will make for a fantastic evening in the hills. I won't be there this year as I fly out to do Ironman France at silly o'clock the following morning......I hope to be recovered for The Druid.
Happy miles.
Hi - anymore details on starting point/parking etc? PostCode for Satnav lovers etc :-)
Hi DylanWales
There is some info (GR) on the upcoming races section of the WFRA here http://www.wfra.co.uk/
Its the top car park at Moel Famau, not sure it will have a Postcode for satnav but if you get to Moel Famau you can't really go wrong as its about half a mile up the road from the main car park.
Regards
Yup, I'll be going - despite clambering on all fours up what I presume was the stone gully on Sunday (some Clwydian Range Runners were recce'ing the route too so I presume I went the right way for once!) - I think I took as long as Fellrunner's course record just getting up that!
From Ruthin direction take the A494 towards Mold. At Llanbedr go past the church (on your left) there's a minor left turn at the next RH bend. This is the back road to Loggerheds which avoids Llanferres. Top of the hill is the car park/start (£1). Coming from Mold you take the A494 towards Ruthin - through Loggerhaeds past petrol garage on right then there's a minor right turn signposted Tafarn y Gelyn - follow this to the top of the mountain.
Postcode at Llanbedr is LL15 1UP
Postcode at Loggerheads is CH7 5LH
Thanks Martin - hopefully will be there.
Dylan
Us Tattenhallers love this and all of Martins races, a superb series that must be able to lay claim to many a fellracing virginity - we usually have one or more of the summer trots as a club counter to get people into the sport and it works!! Expect a loud and happy throng of blue and gold at either end of the field and in the middle as well!
I'm a regular at this race but am working in nottingham at the moment. THe tempatation to commute back and do it is tempting indeed. It's the getting up and driving back to nottm on thursday that's really putting me off. If i see you there folks, i'll be the one dashing out of the car as you're all lined up. If it proves too much, or i cant get out of work early, have a terrific race - it's such a little corker :-)
ST
I like the fact that the Tattenhallers give their last runner in a guard of honour! aka at the beast last Tuesday!
Martin, you do yourself a disservice. Is this not the 6th year you've been organising Hotfoot up Famau? From memory;
2005 Tim won
2006 I won
2007 I won
2008 The Stig won
2009 Tim won
If Anna turns up I think she could smash her record - & perhaps mine :-) - as she's in great form & descending better than ever.
Are you running the same route as last year? If so, is it any longer/shorter than 2005 to 2008?
Have a great evening everyone.
As always a good event, thanks Martin, thankfully it wasn't as hot as last year
yep great night, and i'm sure I even heard a vuvuzela at the end
not many races i'm ahead of downhillracer for more than a few seconds!
well done to all, see you at the Druid
Gosh you're right! Doesn't time fly!!
Last night it was Jez Brown (37.09 which would have beaten you in 2005!) from Neil Parry and Peter Taylor. Ladies were 1- Laura Bestow (42.23 a time only ever beaten by Anna), 2 - Jane Ashcroft and 3 - Sandra Rowlands. Course has changed slightly but still same distance and ascent.
Superb race again Martin! Pleasantly surprised by my run - thought I was having a donkey of a run but it turns out I was suffering because I was trying. 23rd'll do nicely with the state of my fitness :)
Pete Douglas' pics are up at http://www.prdouglas.co.uk/
Good to see the photos up
Martin, just in case you haven't done the results yet, It was Jane Ashbrook from Helsby in 2nd (not Ashcroft)
Results now at http://www.wfra.org.uk/
Also I think I said that the next race in the series is in a fortnight. This is not the case as it's in 3 weeks on Wednesday July 14th at 7.30 pm. (This is The Druid from Llanferres.)
Thanks for the downhill tips when you came flying past, Harry, even though I didn't put them into practice. Thought you had me beaten to be honest. Think I'll (mostly) stick to the trail races, until I can find a cure for the downhill phobia. Roll on the Fairy Freckled Cow!
finishing 5th and not running well downhill was a great achievement, think you should try the next one at the Druid, not as steep! (maybe Martin can give more details) I'm sure over time your confidence will build so stick with it..
Anyone doing this on Wednesday (22nd) quite fancy it.
Despite the road closed signs you can still get up to the top car park (access only of course!) - the race is on - see you there!
:w00t::w00t:
The entry on the FRA race page made me smile:
Race 1 of the Clwydian Hills Summer Trots. Toilets 0.5m E of start.
Very good Eric :)
Looking forward to this tonight, haven't done it for a couple of years due to work.
It's a funny race in a way, pretty much starting with a descent to soften you up before a couple of quite evil climbs and a fast long run in to finish. I think it's a very tough 4.5 miles but very enjoyable.
See you there, and looking forward to the surreal prizes again Martin :)
Thanks for that Martin & your merry band. The huge turnout enjoyed a hoot as always  .
Starting to feel my age a bit with young Challinor, Ellis, Ms Ashcroft & the lad from DP tearing around the hills.....fantastic to see. Got to be a hugely healthy thing for NE Wales fell running.
Don't care what anyone says, with meeting the gully further up this course is deffo shorter than the last time I ran it. If Ricky can find his climbing legs he'll knock another 60/90secs of his time next year.
Happy miles.
Results are there already! www.wfra.org.uk
Looking forward to this one on Wednesday! Travelling down straight after work.
Am I right in thinking that, as far as the R turn below Moel Famau summit, the route is nearly the same as a section of the old Loggerheads race?
Is there a post race social at a local hostelry?
How traily is this? I've been up the gully and up rough ground is OK.. from then on is it trail running?
First few minutes are double-track, the whole of the descent from Famau is fast (cough) and open. Is the gully not miserable enough Iain? :)
Cheers, I've a foot with not much stability at the moment so wouldn't mind a traily fell race, but anything like going down that gully would be a no no.. walking up such terrain is no issue..
Ah, thought you were thinking it'd be too easy. Couple of steep but grassy descents before the gully. Rough map...
http://furiouscycling.blogspot.co.uk...oel-famau.html
Great, may consider it. cheers Iain
Yes, first descent to base of Moel Gaer very grassy and steep and easy to fall but not at all technical. After the gully it's just tracks all the way down
I should be there - not done this one before. I've decided to do a few short fell races for a bit of light relief after my BG. They really hurt, since I'm not used to running fast! There'll probably be a few from Helsby, as it's one of our counters this year.
