Re: 3 Peaks cyclocross. Help!
was touch and go... 4 minutes behind schedule at top of Ingleborough, snapped off front shifter having a bit of a spill on way down so only had small chain-ring from then on, 5 minutes up at top of Whernside, puncture on way down, bang on at top of PYG and then spun my 34X12 as fast as my legs would allow.

I arrived at the stile to see a queue 20m+ long and promptly joined the back of it! I was then joined by a friend of mine with whom i had a chat as we waited at least 5 minutes until we were at the front. He climbed over, I passed him my bike and off i went!
While i was waiting a rider did continue past the whole queue seemingly oblivious to the heckling coming from the queing crowd, I can confirm however that that rider was deffinately not number 44!!

Re: 3 Peaks cyclocross. Help!
Someone's got their numbers wrong!
Number 44 was stood next to me,number 48 waiting patiently on the left hand side of the queue.
I had a yellow major jake he had what looks like a red mountain bike with disc brakes.
We were there when the queue jumper did his dastardly deed,he went round the right hand side.
Once more...it wasn't 44! Somebody has definitely got it wrong!

How long have you been in the 40+ age group grandma:).
I am more concerned about my back and arches for running, than my quads - anyway as a non runner won't you be at a disadvantage?
-
Re: 3 Peaks CX entry list on l
OMG
I have just realised, I will have to choose which X bike to use, that is going to be harder than the race, bugger! (No that was not a request Merry)

That is why Merry was referring to my aching/screaming quads... I hardly ever run and when I do. it hurts my quads :D
Been in the 40+ age group for aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaages and well wrinkly, ask Merry ;)

Re: 3 Peaks CX entry list on l
Any of you fellow deviants ridden the thing on a singlespeed? My only cross-like bike is a fixed Pompino (currently with road tyres). Because I like it, not for any hair-shirt puritanical reasons.
Now I know this would make a fine 'singlecross' bike with a freewheel and smaller chainwheel, both of which are in the shed ...but I don't want to die on this thing. I'm under no illusions about doing well, beating the cut-offs and avoiding old ladies passing me would be good.
I know it's been done lots of times on singlespeed (and fixed even) but still, what do you folks think?
-
Re: 3 Peaks CX entry list on l
I would not know, I am new to this lark... and I have gears. I am however an old lady, so you better make sure you stay ahead of me, whatever you decide to do :D
-
Re: 3 Peaks CX entry list on l
as you say, if you don't mind being slow on the road, and maybe walking a bit further off road, I don't see a problem...except in choosing the best compromise gear/ inches
all sorts of fitness levels on all sorts of machines jus turn up and get round ( within the rules ofcourse:) ) so you'd probably have company and 'feel in the race' though to be frank, half the attraction of such a course is in negotiating the topographical challenge so who cares if you're alone...the challenge is probably enough....wouldn't fancy it myself though:D
if you finish infront of me i'll be gutted:)
