Re: Heptonstall Fell Race
More the merrier!
Someone in the family runs Mooch (its not true that everyone in Hebden is related BTW) glad the flyers have worked - stuck a map in the window too!
Thanks for feedback on Widdop Road - we are meeting contractors to get a definite situation for the 20th - as you say Long Causeway is a good alternative - but Widdop Road is ideal (and more scenic) if open.
Don't worry about recce - just follow the crowds! Unless you re planning to win......
Large parking field provided - anyone objectto paying pound for parking??
-
Re: Heptonstall Fell Race
I don't object to paying a quid Trig, but can I get on the night before in my camper & stop (I can have a beer then too!)? If not, is there anywhere else?
Cheers

We need to check with field owner - but like your idea! The parking field has possibly the most spectacular 360 view in the calder valley - its stunning - what a place to wake up!
Will let you know asap.
If not there are is camp site up Widdop Road (if its open) plus the usual roadside/public carpark locations (not sure what the legal situation is!)
Perhaps you can help with setting up the Marquee if you end up staying over?
-
Re: Heptonstall Fell Race
This is like a Howarth Hobble fun run the week after the main event isn't it? Is is on the Saturday or Sunday please?

That's great cheers for that. I'm only coming from Barrowford but thought what the hell I've missed all the recce's the least I can do is have a beer in the White Lion to show my support! Thought about the carpark but you never know if you can get away wi' it.
If I'm there I'll definately help with erection (oo'er!) of the marquee if required.

Re: Heptonstall Fell Race
Kind of......but the fun stops at the Blue Pig; 500 foot ascent half a mile from the end; good news is we've just added a nice 400 yard, down hill, field finish to put the smile back your face. Its on Sunday 20th - entry on the day (£5) - see you there????

tbh I thought it was Saturday and therefore clashed with the Four Lakeland Passes LDWA event. It'd make a good recovery run if its on the Sunday: 33ml / 9000ft would make a decent weekend. Are there any cut-offs?
-
Re: Heptonstall Fell Race
I like your plan - are you and Joss Naylor mates????
Re cut offs - we are just thinking of putting in a cut off to deter walkers - nothing against walkers - just thinking of our 40 marshalls who have homes/family/pubs to get back to. Generous cut off will be fine for anyone who is running steady (but not walking - big climbs excepted).
Will post cut off on website and forum in next few days - but don't let it put you off.

Re: Heptonstall Fell Race
If you need any gels, running gear, and hopefully sun glasses/peaked caps (more likely gloves/baraklavas/waterproofs) then a major running retailer's Huddersfield branch will be setting up a stall - am I allowed to say who? Sounds a bit like Tup & Stunning......anyway they kindly provided our race numbers for free (with a £10 voucher on the back for anyone spending over £70).
I need some new Rocklites so I might ask for a pair to be brought along in my size.
its full race kit check so don't be caught out.........but i'll make sure whistles compasses etc are on their stand.

Re: Heptonstall Fell Race
Trig,
Even though my thoughtful boss won't give me the night off on Saturday 19th, I still intend to run this. So if you see a blue Citroen Picasso with some one asleep in it at about 7.30 Sunday morning, please don't wake me! Until about 10!
Anyone got a "Do not disturb" sign?
-
Re: Heptonstall Fell Race
Excellent - you may be Flightess Bird but you re no chicken
You could join Alfa Scud in his camper on the parking field.....or there's always caffine. There will be free tea and coffee from 9.00am - courtesy of the church ladies.

Welcome aboard Andy - there's plenty of hills for you up here - you'll particularly enjoy the nice little surprise at the end. Is it prodigal son's return?
Yacht race sounds awesome - when is it? We could try something similar up here (Rochdale Canal and Stoodley Pike) with narrow boats........

Cool - think we're going flagging at about 14.30-15.00 - but in 3 teams on 5 mile sections, Back for a pint...
Widdop Road is definitly open at weekends - worth spreading the word over on the dark side!
Many of your Trawden buddies nipping over?
-
Re: Heptonstall Fell Race
Was planning to but been ill for 3 weeks so training not up to the standard necessary fro this tough race. Good luck everyone.

Well I'll keep you informed, it'll give me a bit of a recce if nowt else. I'm fairly sure there's at least 3 of us coming, would have been more then twice that but as mudlugger said, injuries have ruled a few out
-
Re: Heptonstall Fell Race
Evening Dylan - elite/winning time will be just over 2 hours, faster runners doing 2 and half to 3 hours, steady runners will do 3 and half - take it easy and you could easy do 4! Which do you reckon you will be?
Parking is in a field at the top end of village (not bowling club as stated on website - we will update web site tomorrow) - don't worry their will be marshalls waving you in (£1 to church).
See you there!

Re: Heptonstall Fell Race
I think there's only one of our members (Ackworth Road-Runners) entered, as I couldn't make the arrangements for the day off

i used to try getting in top 20,then beat first vet40,then a few years later beat first lady, then beat vet 50/60 now battleing the 70s and trying to beat u/11's!
think i will be trying to beat 3 hours,so it will be nearer 4 then.
have run most of route in one form or another when recce'ing trog/hobble/cw(running there and back)and put on a run for a club trip,
really nice area with some fantastic paths and scenery.
-
Re: Heptonstall Fell Race
Don't worry Dylan u/11s are barred - but I heard some of the local V70s are a bit handy....
Glad you like the route.
A great deal of thought went into it; about 10 local runners put all their favourite sections into the pot, all the options were endlessley recced for about 6 months; after much stroking of chins, and many pints of ale the Heptonstall Fell Race was born.
The race covers as much new ground as possible (about 75% is on no other race), and shows off all the best bits of the Heptonstall landscape (woodlands, gorges, moors, upland pasture, mill ruins, hamlets, trigs, dams, standing stones, water falls).
Just needs sunshine and a few runners......
Its going to be a great day - see you there!

No problem Trig - I'm bringing 5 over from Gods Own Red Rose County in my VW Camper. Any chance you can clean my tyres off as I drive back over the border :)
-
Re: Heptonstall Fell Race
I have downloaded the route description (first class!) and map from the website, is the map for recce purposes only? If so, will there be a map of the route available to buy on the day?

Assume you all have White Rose Visas? Heard some of the border is lightly policed around Boulsworth - best leave the van at Thursden and slip over under cover of darkness......:madlarge:

Γειά σου Pete! CHEERS That route description took some doing - we split the route in 3, then 3 of us each wrote a 5 mile section (top tip -don't use a biro/mushy bit of paper when wrting fell race directions in low mist and drizzle)
The PDF map will be good for the race - the only difference on the day will be the last 500-600m - but this will be heavily flagged - and you'll be past caring by then anyway??
Are there many others come over from Peleponese?
-
Re: Heptonstall Fell Race
UP AND RUNNING (Huddersfield Branch) will have a shop at Heptonstall Fell Race - all runners get a £10 voucher (off purchase over £70) 0r 15% off shoes. http://www.cvfr.co.uk/phpBB3/images/...on_biggrin.gif
They will have all the usual gear (compass/whistle/ gloves/ hat etc) but you need to order specific gear (eg shoes) to be brought along - try and support them as they have provided our numbers/ a few prizes/ and 50 drinks bottles to give away.....
-
Re: Heptonstall Fell Race
Off to the cash and carry tomorrow to pick 40 litres of soup - what can I get you? Mexican Bean:confused:?

Re: Heptonstall Fell Race
