And, same question as last year, did anyone garmin the course?
You got yours in first.:o
After recceing last week along the fence/skyline path I chose the lower path follwed by heather this week because slower clubmates beat me to the trig last week. The lower path was much drier than the top one - but I guess the top avoids the heather:(

Re: jack bloor fell race may 1
Guick
I should not give away secrets, but after the Cross head for the two towers, cutting the coner of course and follow the wall, leads you right in to the trig.
PS. Don't tell anyone from Lancashire;)
60:10 and they don't have me as a V60

Bob, this might explain your time problem? :D

Re: jack bloor fell race may 1
Guick - I Garmin'd the course - it came in as exactly 9k with 394m of height gain (404m of descent so I must have shrunk by 10m during the race!). Was there anything else you were wanting? A

Re: Jack Bloor Races 2010
Morgan,
I'm looking forward to doing this one as I missed it last year. After Cowpers Cross I think I know some good lines, but the run from the Badgers Stone across to Swastika Stone and back could do with some reccing I think. I just hope it's not as foggy as it was on the day of the Rombalds Stride.

Re: Jack Bloor Races 2010
This is always a smashing night and in aid of a great cause. Highly recommended to anyone who hasn't done it before!

The more the merrier Rhino!
The 2 extra sponsors should please the majority of fell runners, especially in the junior races.
There is a gathering afterwards for race helpers and others associated with the races and the Fund in the Taps from 9.00 pm.
I believe that Dick Courchee will say a few words about the Race and its history.

Re: Jack Bloor Races 2010
I'm looking forward to this it looks like it will be a good evening weather-wise.
I ran the route on Sunday morning (or my version of it anyway) and it was pretty dry up there. Guess it will have got a bit wetter with the rain yesterday, but it should be quite quick for those who can find the right lines. I'll be interested to see how much variance there is is route choice.

Plenty of route choice, even from the final check to the finish.
Runners come from all different angles into the final descent.
Some of those angles are not of the best!

Re: Jack Bloor Races 2010
Crikey - that was chilly! Didn't expect to be able to scrape ice off the registration tent in May!
Great race, although the boulder field in the last half mile was a bit sneaky and I took some awful lines. Room for improvement next year!

Enjoyed the course, could have taken a better line on the descent back to the finish ( if I had done, probably wouldnt have sprained my ankle ! )
Weather was rather un- May like wasnt it !

Re: Jack Bloor Races 2010
Really enjoyed this last night, although I might have finished higher up the field if I'd realised it started at 7:15 not 7:30. That climb up to the Badger Stone is lonely when you're on your own, and the laughter of the organisers is still ringing in your ears.
-
Re: Jack Bloor Races 2010
I enjoyed it too. Spoilt only by the fact I'd left my hat, gloves, long johns and hot water bottle at home.
-
Re: Jack Bloor Races 2010
Great fun! any results out yet?

I know - what an idiot! Not sure why I thought it was 7:30, but it was a shock to come back up to the start from changing in my car to find no runners there. I won't do that again.
I finished 160th - apologies to anyone inconvenienced by my kamikaze overtaking.
Thanks for organising this great race though, Morgan. I will be back next year, and will be on time.

Re: Jack Bloor Races 2011
This is a great race, but make sure you turn up at the start at 7:15pm; don't assume it's a 7:30pm start and arrive 10 minutes late like I did last year!
-
Re: Jack Bloor Races 2011
Thanks for the reminder Morgan. 'Classic' indeed
-
Re: Jack Bloor Races 2011
Hope to be there on Tuesday.

Re: Jack Bloor Races 2011
Let's bring this back to the top.
Hope to see as many of you as possible tomorrow evening.
It's still pretty dry up there.

Re: Jack Bloor Races 2011
Think I'll do this tomorrow... my first proper fell race, as opposed to mountain marathons and general tooling around in the hills. Do most runners stick to paths or are cross country routes preferred? Looks like there's a couple of sections with significant route choice.

Its a mix of both cross-country routes and paths but unless you are leading just follow the throng for the first 2 CPs - Badger Stone & Swastika Stone. There's a bit more route choice from there on - particularly from Cowpers Cross to the trig point - I'm planning on following the wall this year!!

That'll be following then! Cheers.

Re: Jack Bloor Races 2011
Good to see you tonight TF, given that my race was true to my signature, like most people behind me you were probably gaining on me towards the end - I must've lost about 35 places between CP1 & the finish - but still a great race - thanks as always to all the organisers etc.
Good to have a brief chat with Graham B and to have vocal support at CP1 & CP6 from Daleside.

I won't say I did brilliantly DS but thanks for the support. Looked like a classic battle out front with Graham beating Tom Adams by 2 seconds.

Re: Jack Bloor Races 2011
I went off WAY too quick. Made a dash to the bottleneck at the start and must've been around 30th to the first checkpoint, but it nearly did me in. Definitely lost a good few places as I settled down a bit over to 2 and 3, but made a couple back on the last descent, despite having to slow down briefly to prevent chundering. Good fun. I think.
