I wish people who get it in their heads that because someones bumbag looks small that they dont have the correct kit.
Thats just not true

Well said daz; I personally don't like them but those really, really light and flimsy waterproof jackets almost certainly satisfy the most stringent of kit checks but fold up tiny. When it boils down to it in most cases what we're talking about here is waterproof tops and bottoms which, in the scheme of things don't weigh very much anyway. If I stuff just my waterproofs into a bum bag, even my "massively heavy" ones, my drag coefficient probably increases by 0.000000000000000000001%..... and I can live with that :)
I imagine the difference over a long race would be more than you're suggesting there. Why would people leave things otherwise? And presumably some are, otherwise there'd be no dispute, and no thread!
Btw, I haven't suggested anyone is leaving anything out, but it'd be interesting to hear what prompted Woodzy to post originally.
What amazes me is why people think it should be down to the organiser to do more stringent checks.
Lets have a rule put in place that when you register or collect your number you bring your bumbag, have the contents ready and show thats what your carrying.
This use to happen a fair bit at races and I always through habit carry my bumbag to registration. Mainly so I dont have to go back to the van to fetch it.
Doesnt happen so much now though at races.
Ive said it before but the only thing that gets swapped in my bag is the bloody race map. I carry the correct kit to keep me alive if I fall or get lost.
Is it that difficult.
I see plenty of runners without bumbags in races. I dont see them flying past me, It doesnt bother me, Is it really that big a problem.
The day I start worrying whether so and so has just beat me to the Vet40 prize because he has only carried a black bin liner for a coat and I have lugged a donkey jacket round is the day I give up.
There are more serious issues to look at.
Childrens fell shoes for one, dont get me started.
Quite right Daz, I've had kitchecked people on the skyline and Tanky's and thought they can't have every thing but they do----if a little close to the edge(2 jelly babbies do not pass as "Emergency food") ;)
But when runners don't take any bumbag at all, run in vest and shorts with no map or compass even though it was quite clear that full body kit, M&C was required. When challenged they shrug their shoulders in full view of the RO.
What would you call that? it happens?
some races are understaffed as they are volunteers so a full kitcheck at every race is impossible but the starter could say that numbers of those who have no kit or don't appear to have the kit will be taken at a CP on route and phoned back for a spot check at the end or if obviously no kit straight DISQ
i agree IDP checkpoints can make a note of any runner they notice with no bumbag as they take there race no,
more so on the finish line and DQ em they wont do it again! in all sport if you break rules you get punished simple a level playing field for all and a safer one.
Let us be clear about one thing- inov8 put numbers after the name of shoes so that they can release an almost identical pair of shoes in a different colour with a new number beside it, content in the knowledge that all us numpties will feel the need to splash the cash for the latest shoe....as if it will make the slightest bit of a difference. If u ask me, I'm surprised that they don't name a shoe after every fell race on the calendar and b done with it! I mean, u couldn't possibly race Borrowdale in a pair of inov8 Duddon when the Inov8 Borrowdale 285 is available. Come to think of it, we couldn't even use the Inov8 Borrowdale 285 when the Inov8 Borrowdale 265 is available! We re all a bit gullibe as proved by the original enquiry about Inov8 labelling their shoes with the weight! KK
Can't wait till Inov8 bring out their 'It's Monday, it's raining and i can't be bothered to run to work, drag me out of BedClaw, 195' Rest of the week shoes to follow:w00t:
Wonder if they'll ever do the budgetclaw?
That you can have all the kit in your bumbag and it be very small and that Ive followed runners with no kit ( ie no bum bag).
The 3 rd part isnt my posting.
If its your post Miss July and your struggling to zip the bumbag up. Just do what I do and put a tie wrap on each of the zips. It makes it easier to zip up when full.
Personally I don't really care if people carry the kit or not. I think they should but its their choice. I'll always make sure I take what I feel is appropriate to help keep me safe on the fells and if I'm in a race, I'll carry what the ROs ask me to. I would also like some 'It's Monday, it's raining and i can't be bothered to run to work, drag me out of BedClaw, 195's please although I don't need to run to work as I work from home so just the 'INOV8, its Monday, its raining drag me out of bedlites 265s' would probably be sufficient (nice idea Steve):D
(ps I often get asked if I have the kitchen sink in my OMM bumbag...its just my rather heavy kit because I can't afford the microscopic waterproofs and my peanut butter and banana sandwich)
How about the Inov8 Automaclaw. All you have to do is switch on and off they take you up the fell no further effort required.
What's happening here?
Already knew you had found it x.I thought it was actually 2008 but them im not sad enough to look back that far.Anyone knows that when you post something thats not recent that its obviously been dragged from way back.Yawn.Typical of the way the forums goingFull of people posting under alias names.
Yes at one time i did believe that if your bumbag wasnt bulging you didnt have the correct kit, but until i actually spent more than 3 minutes packing one i realised that you can actually compress the contents down to nothing if you can be bothered.
At the end of the day (hate that saying, don't know why i used it) cheats are only cheating themselves, even if they don't get found out they've got to live with the fact they cheated. Some folk will always cheat, it's a sad side of the human state unfortunately.
Is daz h disqualified from this thread for the crime of contradiction?? :D
Never mind. As Balfour said "nothing matters very much, and few things matter at all" and the Forum is clearly an example of the latter.
As far as I am concerned daz is one of the good guys on the Forum and I will forgive him anything and everything.
And Miss Julie? Intriguing.
daz is definitely one of the nice guys and always worth listening to. Contradiction? I think not it's not like he said one thing and then the opposite the next day, we are nothing with out education and most continue to learn, with new knowledge comes new opinions...
Miss julie....Lola? ;)
But will Daz come to change his mind about the giant tattoo on his back- it's a MOOT point!!!! hehehehe
KK
Didn't we do this subject after Dunnerdale 2009? If i remember correctly it didn't amount to a hill of beans, but nice to see the chairman is back on form with his quotations.
Im sure our fra secretary mr b will remember the conversation i had with him about bumbags. I Asked him about how some runners in races have smaller bumbags. He told me it was possible to screw your kit down to nothing. He used the example of probably one of the worlds best fellrunners. At the time i actually told him it wasnt and indeed had the opinion that runners were beating me because of the weight advantage.Every week i just left my waterproof jacket, bottoms in my bag loose with 2 x gels, compass and map and i could barely fasten it.Thats why i first put two red tie wraps on the zippers on the bumbag.Fast forward towards the middle of 2010 and i actually asked a fellracer thats won everything in the sport about a lot of things including how i could get faster.I learnt more in those 15 mins than i had done since i had started fellracing. He told me how to train for my age, what to eat, how much to eat, and various other things. One thing he noticed was why was i carrying shotblock gels on the outside of my bumbag with an elastic band, simple because i couldnt fit then in.He then opened his bumbag and showed me his.I was amazed. Everything in place and folded immaculatley. Since that day ive improved more than i can now imagine. As for the bumbag think folding, a few cycling books as a weight , then elastic bands. So yes i did change my mind, yes i learnt to be more proffesional, yes i trained more etc etc etc.I stopped blaming others for me not applying myself and ive had a great year.As for bumbags, well i didnt need one today at bradbourne.Goodnight
Daz PM me what he told you about training and eating and I won't tell anyone.
