Hi All.
I can't make me mind up about this race.
It'll take a good hour to drive to it sunday.
Do you think its worth it, or should I just head out for a sunday run more local to my house?

I'll be there - looks a good one, and I want to do the whole gritstone series this year.
Anyone know if there is any real navigation on this one, or if it's self-explanatory?
My answer depends on where you plan to finish in the field. You see, one of the ways I tell how well I've done is my percentile.
If you're going to be behind me: This, by all accounts (I didn't do it last year) is a great race. People were talking about it being a future English Championship counter. It'll set you up for the season.
If you're going to be infront of me: Unless this is one of your target races, you should do a hard local training session. It will benefit you more in the long run, and just consider the environmental impact of all that driving.
;)
P.S. I noticed your car share query. I would offer a lift as I'm quite close to Congleton (Wincle), but we have a full car - sorry.
P.P.S. You should do it really, even if you beat me.
Haha cheers for that :D
mmmmm ... I was planning on getting a PB on this race (having never done it - it shouldn't be too hard).
Really think I need to get my bum in to gear and do this race.
I've been doing a load of running around the Wincle area over the last year. Any top tips for the area. I normally park on the bridge over the Dane and run to Hen Cloud then back to the car via the Roaches trig.

That's one of our favourite runs (although we don't normally go all the way to Hen Cloud). Mrs Noel has recently been raving about heading the other way (up to Wincle Minn) although I can't give you a detailed route description.
I'm a big fan of the Wildboarclough side of that area. For example, park in Wildboarclough, Up and down Shutlingsloe, past Clough House to run up Cumberland Brook to Danebower Hollow, then through the quaries to Three Shires Head, then back to the car (either directly or via Gradbach youth Hostel then over Tagsclough). The latter variation is about 10 miles and is lovely.
Good luck with the PB ;)
Yeah, I've been running around Wildboarclough too. Really love it. I Did the Cat and Fiddle to Bolsey Cloud and came down Cumberland Brook. It was ace.
Also tried Buxton to Congleton via Wincle... that really kicked me in the bits:eek:
If you ever plan a weekend (or even week day) run out and wouldn't mind someone tagging along? I'd be well up for that.
I've been thinking about the Staff Moorlans AC Gritstone Anytime thing at some point.
Well, hope to see you at the race on Sunday.
Tim
I'm not surprised. That sounds pretty hardcore.
Sounds good. I'm a Fat Boy - black and white shirt. I'll be the one fielding two young kids and a running wife (although there are a few that fit that category). What club do you run for?
Sounds intriguing. What's this?

Hi Noel.
Not in a club yet. Need to sort it out at some point this year. I've been on some runs with the Macc Harriers. I'm mates with folk from Congleton and Dark Peak and the last few weeks have been running on thursdasy nights with Pennine from Hayfiled. Were are the Fat Boys based?

Could be a good day out.
I'll try and say hi at the race tomoz.
Tim
am gonna risk my gammy ankle and do it.look out for lanky blonde bloke.
Hathersage. We're more of a bunch of mates rather than a club.
Ah, this thing. Yes I quite fancy the idea of this one. I'll have to do some long training first. Most of my training runs are less than 7 miles, so 20 would be a "super long".
Cool. I'll try to look obvious.
Hope to see some of you at the race tomorrow, I'll be turning up on either a pedal bike (If I get up in time) or an ex-post office van (if the weather's crappy or I oversleep) and should be in a red and grey vest as in my avatar.... Give me a yell as you overtake up the first hill!
Do any of you guys know if there is a time limit on this race or checkpoint time limits. I have tried to e-mail race organiser but no joy maybe something up with my mac don't know. The reason i ask is it is near it is short but i am unfit and overweight hence asking about the times. But the more training and racing i can get on the fells the way i see it the better as i am getting fitter and also improving my skills.
Looking forward to this one tomorrow, didn't manage to do it last year. Judging by the photos on the web site that first ascent looks like a lung-buster!
Excellent race today - nice to meet you Tim, and think I recognised a few others from here too.
Absolutely knackered now though, felt like I was riding well on the way back into Sheffield, but then I got off the bike and realised I could hardly stand! Don't know the proper name for them, but the tendons at the back of my groin are very sore...hopefully they'll be sorted in time for a recovery run before the Skyline next weekend.
Should be clear - just took the dog for a walk, and jogged down a hill which seemed to loosen it up. I think it's probably caused by spending the winter running rather than on the bike, and then doing a fairly tough bike ride with already sore muscles.
very good race glad i turned out for it.very well organized there seemed to be marshalls everywhere ! I even got under my target time.Well done everyone.
That was great fun this morning! Don't know about everyone else, but the hill right at the end nearly finished me off! Just seeing the field below, and having to double back... a James Bond villain couldn't have designed it better!
Anyway, not too bad for a first race after stress fracture. Looking forward to the next :D
Just missed out on getting the same place as my number (by 1 measly place!). How infuriating.
I stayed until the prizes were handed out. I was trying to look conspicuous and keep my Fat Boy vest visible. But after about 5 minutes, I was freezing so put my windproof on. You'll have to join a club then I can spot you.
I thought it was a great fell race. Thanks to all involved. I agree with what some people were saying after last year's event - It would be a good English champs counter.
Mrs Noel was very pleased with 3rd lady and 1st LV40.
My race report is on the blog...
I'm sorry not to see your post before the race - but just for the future, a six mile race won't usually have specific time limits or cut offs. Long races (say 13 miles and more) often do.
Another good race this one, I'm glad to have made it this year. That final hill was punishing but worth it for the last descent!
I should have hung around a bit longer. Nevermind. Needed to get home to do Mothers days stuff.
Just looked at your blog. 48 mins. Good running. I'm not sure of my time, but its safe to say I was behind you.
A great race (The final hill was SO much fun to run down). If you plan any long runs around the Wincle area and wouldn't mind someone tagging along please drop me a line.
Tim
just had a look on youtube at the other races in the series they all look good.Anyone else planning on doing the others ? I was loving the last decent its always good finishing on a down rather than uphill !
I'm also hoping to do all 7, and I think that they all finish with a descent too.
Results are now up on the gritstone series website.
I noticed a few people taking photos on the course. Are these displayed anywhere? Thanks
Just returned fropm this today, great race and thanks to organisers 'The Bradda Dads'. perfect weather and a tough climb to start. Pleased with my race as I have not really trained or run now for 3 months cos injury. managed 38th I think and a third in the Notts Champs so happy with that. Nice to meet DazH who had a good run again and Emmilou as well. junior races were great and made a real spectacle. Thanks to all.
A quick update to confirm Wolfs Pit is on - 11am Sunday 11th March. Same venue and only a slightly altered course - for the better we hope. This year see's the return of the "sting in the tail" followed by the BIG final decent.
Whilst the race starts on Malcolm's field as in previous years. High Peak Garden Centre have very kindly agreed to let us use their car park for the event -this will mean a 1/2 mile trot to the start so please allow a bit of time for this.
There's also the Junior races over a great course from the field. Under 10's fun run at 10:15 and under 16's at 10:30. This will allow the Junior races to be completed prior to the senior race starting.
We've got a bit of catering sorted as well - so hoping to make it a good day.
Have a look at the web site if you need any additional info; www.wolfspitfellrace.org.uk
I'm hoping to have a go this year if my calf ok & I dare have a go. I probably will run from home (Hathersage)
